Bahia Principe Akumal
"We visited the Bahia Principe resorts in Mexico so many times we stopped counting. Our first visit dates from the days when the Tulum hotel was the only one built. We visited the Akumal hotel during the first years of operation, same for the Coba. We loved this resort so much we didn’t hesitate to plan our wedding in the Akumal section with family and friends… We were so happy to come back this summer to the Akumal hotel with the kids to spend quality family time as well as to refresh their memories, despite the high cost of a luxury resort (Don Pablo Collection). However, it will be our last visit. We can’t accept the position of the resort and his shareholder Pinero Group. It’s now day 5. There were virtually no shady spots. The main pool (around 300 sunbeds) has only 15 umbrellas. People get up at the crack of dawn and run literally down to the pool to reserve sun beds with towels. Every morning (starting 6 Am), the guests are disputing the few parasols available. We tried without a parasol but the kids suffered burns. We now have to wait until late afternoon or to use the other pools of the resort (parasols at Tulum hotel are fixed in the ground). We contacted the customer services, the manager and the director of the hotel. They all confirmed the situation and can’t improve it. The umbrellas are on order since April and must come from Spain!!! Strange… It seems they use the same excuse (lack of umbrellas due to a storm) for months… Any decent true 5* hotel would have an umbrella for every 2 sun loungers. This is an easy fix. The Pinero group saves money on the backs of the customers. Their advertising motto is “we are family”. Sorry guys don’t be my family if you don’t care about my kids’ wellness. We now sadly realize that Pinero Group’s primary purpose is to cut costs at the expense of customers. If you have been in the same situation, please make some noise. They have the feeling of being untouchable."

Xmas & New Year Vacation
"Arrived on the 19th December 2012 for 3weeks.Had problems with air con not working and fan one speed slow.Could not be altered as chain damaged.Tried to change rooms but told different reasons as to why we could not ,like having to pay extra.Rubbish as the rest of our party got moved without charge.Rooms very tired, although grounds and lobby's brilliant.2 egg stations in the buffet only one ever manned in the 3 week we were there. The staff in buffet and restaurants brilliant but fun of their feet.Restaurants to visit .Don Pablo and the Argentinian at Tulum. The arliquin at Akumel. The wild life is brilliant especially the Cotimundis. They are so tame.Could not wait to come home.Have 25 what i believe to be ant bites from I think round the pool Not mosquito bites.Could not wait to get home, although did have a good Xmas day and New Years Eve "

"It was my 2nd time at the resort, although stayed in Akumal for 2 days, although I cannot fault it, I still prefer Tulum, this is where all the excitement happens, the hotel is just superb, good food, large variety at the buffet, the a la carte is top class, great beach and pool so clean, and the mexican people and staff are just so warm and friendly. I definetly will go again to the same hotel."

"I have just arrived back today from a 2 week holiday in Mexico. The flight there was just over 9 hours, the in-flight entertainment was good, good choice of films and programmes to watch. When we arrived at the airport we were directed to our bus which took us to our resort which is about an hour and a half outside of Cancun. The bus was air conditioned and comfortable. The hotel we were staying at was very nice, the rooms were nice, however I did expect a little more as it was 5 star as I have stayed in similar apparments which were 3 star. The resort is well laid out and there is plently of bars and eating areas. The resort is situated on the beach which is great and all the pools are clean and the areas around them tidy. The gourmet restaurants which you have the reserve are also good and the buffet has a wide variety of food. There is also a market at the entrance to the complex which sells everything you could need and there is buses avalible regularly to take you here and also to the other areas of the resort.I enjoyed my stay here and would go back. "Having just returned from our 3rd two week visit to the same resort we can honestly say it is still the best to offer for a family. Our children are 9 and 13 and as a whole found the resort fantastic. We found it easier to use a taxi from the airport rather than the bus. We e-mailed the hotel and requested same room as per our previous visit and they obliged. We will be going back again next year as it is a gaurenteed fantastic holiday. Club Golden at the Coba is the better of the three hotels in the complex on offer. Enjoy"

"We went the Grand Bahia Principe in Riviera Maya in June 2007 for our Honeymoon. The Grand Bahia Principe is in fact a huge resort made up of 3 hotels - the Akumal, the Tulum, and the Coba. When booking we had expected to stay in the Tulum. However when arriving we were allocated to the Coba. This turned out to be much better as this Hotel was the newest addition and also the biggest. We were upgraded to a Junior Suite over looking over one of the many pools. The room was amazing - very spacious with a separate bathroom/shower room. Also a separate seating area which led out to the balcony. The apartment blocks are all 3 storey's high but they don't have lifts so if you are unable to get up stairs, ask for a lower level. We were on the third floor. Rooms are cleaned every day, mini-bars restocked every day, and towels changed every day. Bed was re-made every day although sheets changed every few days. The Resort itself was very relaxing. You could spend the whole holiday not speaking to anyone if you prefer. It provided lots of activities during the day particularly one of the main pools. Could be very loud. There are also quieter pools to go to. The breakfast buffet was superb. The choices were extensive and although the same foods were served everyday - there was so much to choose from. Buffet lunch was also served although the snack bars beside the pool served food also. Buffet dinner was excellent. You are given the option of going a la carte 3 times a week. Only downfall is that depending on which Hotel you are, depends on which restaurants you can use. The Steak House was fab but you can only use it if you stay in the Tulum/Akumal. There was a mistake with one of our bookings so we did in fact get to eat there. Small buses are available to take you between Hotels - you can eat in any one of them for the buffet. There are only a couple of minutes apart. Bus service down to the beach also. It was spotless. Although very busy there were lots of sunbeds available. There was entertainment on every night which was very good although if you are there for 2 weeks the same shows are done again in your second week! Nothing we can really fault the Resort for. We went in June and its Summer Break in America so lots of Americans came to stay. But as the Resort is so big, it was still very peaceful. The transfer to Grand Bahia is nearly 2 hours but donât let that put you off - it really is an amazing place. We will go back."

Holiday of a lifetime! First time in Me...
"Holiday of a lifetime! First time in Mexico, stayed at Gran Bahia Principe at Akumal Hotel and itâs definitely the best place I have ever visited! Food is great, so much choice and A la Carte restaurants are pure heaven! Pools and activities great, room service excellent, mini bar and Jacuzzi bath! Totally lush! The staff are so friendly and helpful and are sure to put a smile on your face! Weather gorgeous, warm towels even provided around the pool. Two seconds from the beach! 24 all inclusive. Trips to go on are great - especially Xel-Ha and swimming with dolphins...an unforgettable experience!! Overall I simply cannot fault the hotel/staff/resort whatsoever. Had an absolutely fabulous holiday and Iâm now already looking at the brochure for my next visit there!"

"What a fantastic place! The hotel was brill, you couldnât want for anything else, they have thought of everything. Excellent staff, wonderful amenities, west end style entertainment nightly. Fabulous range of restaurants and food options available in abundance. The rooms were excellent , upgrade to a junior suite and get a Jacuzzi bath! mini bar fridge well stocked in room even had crisps and chocolate! Iâve travelled all round the world and stayed in top resorts and this is the BEST! Definitely go to Xel-Ha and swim with the dolphins and go snorkelling and visit Chichen Itza, Mayan temple makes the Egyptian pyramids look dull! "

"The resort is great. Great facilities, great beaches, the staff are extremely nice and efficient. 5 stars. The outside activities are great. You can go snorkelling at Xel-Ha or at Xcareth. You can go swim in the reef (the 2º largest in the world). You can go ride some 4x4 through the âmangaleâ and eat in a typical Mexican village. Itâs superb."

"My wife and I spent 5 days at the resort (from Jan. 12-17) and the first thing that stood out was how clean the resort was. There was not one piece of paper or trash laying on the ground, by the pool and on the beach. The staff was very friendly and polite always greeting us as we walked on the trails. The time of year we stayed at the resort was perfect for us. The resort was only 20% full, so there weren't any lines at the buffet or crowds at the pool. The resort has 6 restaurants, 2 of them buffets and an Italian, Seafood, Steakhouse and authentic Mexican. We ate at the Seafood and Mexican restaurants and the food was terrific. The buffets had a variety of foods for everyone especially the breads and desserts. One drawback is if you don't speak or understand Spanish it can be difficult when asking the staff for directions. Sometimes the broken english made it tough to figure out where we were supposed to go. This was our first time in Mexico and both of us are planning to go back to the Bahia next year."
