Sunset Plaza Beach Resort & Spa

"Our 7 day stay began with champagne and a sit down registration. The hotel was immaculate, the service perfect and the room was wonderful. Our room had a full kitchen, 2 bathrooms and a living area. The deck was the full width and overlooked the pool, the hot tubs and , of course, the ocean. The pools were wonderfully heated. The food was unlike any all-inclusive we have encountered... it was sit down, menu and cooked to order EVERY meal! The food was really good, and the presentation was equal to a 4 star restaurant!... BUT, after 7 days, the menu got a little old. The Italian restaurant, which required reservations, was not that great. The menu was so very complicated that the wait staff had to explain each item... not only to us, but to most in the dining room. The resort had only 26 or so rooms full at the time of our visit, which was great, but we are concerned that when the house is full, the restaurant will not be able to handle it. There are no activities on the resort grounds, but we did walk both to town and to the Marina... both were pretty long walks but ok. The bus to town costs 6.5 pesos, and is a real experience. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. It would be a wonderful place to stay while exploring Puerto Vallarta. One comment.... there were certain items that were not included in the "all inclusive", and we feel they should present a list. Some of the items were: room service is free, but there is a $10. charge for delivery.; some liquors in the bar are not free. The laundry is there, but it costs about $5.00 to wash, $5.00 to dry; coffee for the coffee maker is only for the first day. One more thing... there was music ALL day, until 11 at night. It was irritating and loud. Sometimes it is wonderful to just listen to the ocean speaking."

BE CAUTIOUS of READING RESORT DESCRIPTIONS
"Beautiful property. Beyond that--BEWARE! Staff is VERY NEW and "rough around the edges". THIS is NOT a HOTEL--IT IS A TIME SHARE--Beware that the "Deluxe Hotel Room" is NOT A HOTEL ROOM but a LOCK OUT from the Time share suite WHICH DOES NOT COME WITH THE SAME AMENITIES as the room, despite hotel room descriptions. AVOID ROOM 609! Water pressure and temp need WORK (despite being BRAND NEW). WARNING: the images of the hotel, rooms, exterior, etc are CGI--digital creations and NOT ACTUAL PHOTOS! FOOD needs work--BUT the meals that are authentic Mexican fare are wonderful--GREAT BREAKFASTS! DO NOT BOOK ground transportation thru "BEST TOURS"--they charge $20 USD for Taxi--it costs <$5 USD and you can pay in American!--AGAIN: great property, but needs LOTS OF FINE TUNING, and unfortunately the Management does NOT listen to its guests concerns."

If you have only one trip to make. This is a must have!!!
"My husband and I vacationed at this resort and we have nothing but good things to say about it. We would recommend this resort to our friends. We were there when the hotel opened it's doors(yes, we were the first customers) and what a greeting we had! The staff were all outside to greet us and then we were transported to another world along with the sounds of the mariachis as background music. We were delighted to also have the same music (mariachis) during our romantic diners. The food is phenomenal and when we asked for desserts, the chef would send us a variety of them. From our rooms you could see the dolphins swimming by in the ocean (bay) and the tranquillity of it all. The environnement was so engaging that within 2 days we had forgotten our reality. The rooms are very spacious and well organized. The balconies have views of the ocean and if you get up early enough you can see the ships arrive in the port. The hotel is very secure with all the security who work there but who are very discreet. The staff were at our every beck and call and did everything to please us. They were always there when you needed them but never bothered you. We visited the town of Puerto Vallarta and felt safe doing it."

"We were surprised by the beauty of the hotel. The staff was awesome. They cater to your every need. Very friendly and helpful. Most speak English. The food was awesome. We watched whales while sitting at the bar enjoying a delightful beverage. We can't wait to go back. The hotel has security so we felt very safe. We have been in Puerto Vallarta several times and found this to be the best trip ever, thanks to the staff of the Sunset Plaza. Be sure to say hi to Luis in the snack bar area. He is wonderful."

One of the most luxurious, elegant, and intimate resorts we've ever stayed at...
"My boyfriend and I planned this last-minute trip to Puerto Vallarta and found this resort on Bookit.com. Although we were reassured by our travel agent that this hotel was a four star hotel, we did not have extremely high expectations for this resort except promises that it was a four star, ocean front suites and close to shopping and downtown Puerto Vallarta. Less than ten minutes away from the airport, the Sunset Plaza bellboys (Hilario) graciously welcomed us and we were led to the front desk and concierge. After checking into our rooms, we were blown away by the grounds of the intimately quaint resort and the ocean views from the spacious balcony. Our stay continued to get better from the first day --- the amazing chefs at the poolside restaurant and Luciano's, bartenders (Ricardo, Edgar, and Luis) and waiters, jazz band in the hotel lobby bar, the breathtaking sunsets, the three jacuzzis to choose from, the infinity pool that hangs over the beachfront, to the couples massage in the bungalow over the ocean (highly recommend it!)... Make sure to order a Coco Collado from the poolside bar (fresh fruit). Our trip could not have been more perfect and we truly recommend this hotel as a romantic getaway for couples or families."

Sunset Plaza Beach Resort is paradise, come true!
"The moment you pass through the gates of Sunset Plaza, from Plaza Pelicanos (North Hotel Zone in PV), which area is quite modest looking, you'll be pleasantly surprised, as this resort transports you to an oasis of beauty, freshness, and elegance. We've been guests of 5 Star hotels and resorts all over the world, and this hotel rates top, in our opinion, among 5 Star properties. We rented a suite with spectacular view: southward to the twinkling lights of 'Old Town,' out across the bay to dramatic sunsets over the glittering water, and northward to the Marina. The rooms are impeccably appointed, like a slick Manhattan apartment; the staff are all gracious and accommodating, each one seeming genuinely pleased to be of service; the pools are cast in iridescent glass tiles surrounded by laws that are manicured to perfection; but our most favorite of all was the delicious food and drink concoctions served in the open air restaurant. The chef of this restaurant is not only creative in his menus, but the food is of very high caliber and is presented very tastefully, by delightful waiters, with an artistic flair you'd find at only the best restaurants. Also, don't miss the opportunity to experience a very affordable, top-notch massage in the beach cabana. The spa's massage therapists offer a wide-array of options, from relaxing aroma therapy and Swedish massage, to deep tissue techniques that will leave you feeling totally relaxed . We were lulled asleep by the massages and sound of the surf crashing beneath us. Afterwards, we lingered and soaked in one of the circular hot tubs above the pool deck, gazing at the bold orange sunset. Ask for Paloma, a very knowledgeable and resourceful concierge; she helped us with travel arrangements and tours. Also ask for Joel, a gracious butler, who will anticipate and respond to any need you may have. Throughout our stay, we felt like Maharajah and Queen at some Indian palace with a staff catering, most pleasantly, to our every desire. If you have a chance to visit Sunset Plaza, you'll leave enchanted, and wanting more."

Amazing stay and want to return...tomorrow
"My husband and I just returned from a wondeful stay at the Sunset Plaza. As soon as we walked in the doors, relaxation hit us. Upon arrival, we were met by a cool wash cloth and a glass of wine. We were then taken to our room by our butler. After showing us the room and making sure the bags arrived, he informed us to let him know if we needed anything during our stay. The next trip was to the pool, the adult pool was so amazing. There are plenty of private sunbeds and the towel service was great. We felt like we were at a private resort. The pool drink and food service was fantastic. There was always someone to take our order. At first we were nervous that there are only 3 restaurants (a deli, the pool bistro, and the nice sit down restaurant) but they had a wonderful selection and changed the menu as well. One night we decided to have a dinner at the pool bistro, we were prepared for a burger or sandwhich but actually had filet mignon which was AMAZING!!!! Every meal was delious!! Room service was good too. All the rooms have an ocean view and balcony and are kept super clean. The shower is big enough for a party! The beach area is not huge, but was good for us. The spa is amazing! We had a couuples massage and both agreed it was the best massage we have ever had! If not at the adult pool, our favorite place was the swim up bar...lots of fun and great drinks. The night bar had music nightly and was very low key. The staff was amazing and always willing to help or get us what we needed. We had a perfect trip and can't wait to return! We would recommend Sunset Plaza to couples...very romantic!"

Absolutely one of the nicest resorts I've ever stayed in.
"I stayed in Sunset Plaza with my parents and little brother. I have traveled to many countries and have stayed in many nice resorts, such as the 4 Seasons in Tokyo, and I must say my stay in Sunset Plaza was one of the best I've ever had. The facilities were amazing, I had no complaints about the room (and was even surprised at how much nicer the view was than I had imagined) and the moment I checked in I was greeted by a complimentary glass of wine. I would recommend this to anyone."
