"Just returned from 2 weeks at the above hotel and we were extremely happy with our choice. Apart from the first 5 days when work was being done on the beach, therefore closed, we had an excellent stay at a lovely, clean, friendly hotel. The staff were absolutely fantastic, great fun and always so friendly - don't know how they manage it! They will do absolutely anything for you, of course they expect a tip but they are so pleasant you don't mind. The rooms were cleaned daily, our shower smelled a bit damp but other than that absolutely no problems at all. The food was amazing, we both enjoy a nice meal and everything on the menu was gorgeous. Weren't too keen on the speciality resturants, the Asian night in the hotel is better than the resturant, though you can book them as many times as you want throughout your stay (need to book the Steak House pre-8am though!). The Mexican food night was amazing, also do a great roast dinner. BBQs by the pool were a welcome alternative to the usual lunch menu which can get a bit boring. Desserts were fantastic!!! If you ask for branded alcohol at the bar you will get it, Smirnoff may have been watered down but who cares if youre not paying! You also get a minibar in your room. Beach was gorgeous with plenty of loungers, not quite the same at the pool where it gets very busy and noisy with the pool games. Entertainment wasnt great but we were always too tired due to time difference to stay up past 10pm anyway! Hotel is a pleasant 30min walk to Playa del Carmen, which is basically a street full of typical souveniers but still a nice day/evening out. There is also a small plaza opposite the hotel for essentials. All in all a fantastic holiday and would definitely recommend this to any friends or family :)"

"Situated on the beach it is difficult to fault anything at this hotel. The food was unbelievable with a choice that took longer to choose than to eat. Apart from the main restaurant the Steak House, Mexican, and Asian restaurants were all excellent. The staff go out of their way to provide superb service and the whole complex is spotless. bedrooms were very airy and the blocks were small and quaint, only downside was the noise when guests returned from the reps' bar crawl twice a week (however having been on it you just have to try it). This leads me onto the trips, the "MUST DOs" are XEL-HA an unbelieveable park istuated on a fresh water laggoon: Swimming with dolphins: and the bar crawl incorporating a trip to "Coco Bongos" club: and the jungle tour which gives you the chance to snorkel and drive a speedboat (just like miami-vice). For shopping plan a visit to La Isla centre at Cancun. Although a 1 hour drive away the air conditioned coaches make it seem closer. We travelled with Thomson and would recommend them to anybody with more leg-room than I have seen in any aircraft without paying extra. Beware of the weather, we believed that the wet season would be finished end of September but 2nd week it rained every day and was forecast to continue through to November.Even this won't spoil the enjoyment of this Country. "Accomadation We have just returned from the Riu Playacar our second visit having gone there last year. The rooms are very comfortable, our room last year had two double beds and this year we had a room with a six ft. wide bed (queen?), on the end of the block overlooking the pool with a large balcony with sunbeds. A well stocked mini bar with four optics Tequila, Rum, Vodca & Gin, with beer (corona), soft drinks and water, in the fridge, restocked every two days. Food The reason we chose this hotel. It was excelent. A roast every night beef, pork, ham, duck or baked fish usually Red Snapper, the beef was delicious. Two fried fish every night Grouper, Dorada or Salmon also delicious, steak pork chops, fajitas, paellas, pastas, pizza and burgers with plenty of vegetables, salad even the chips are good, and much more. Steak house a choise of four mains with fixed starter and desert. Asian A mix of Japanise and Chinese, sushi, peking duck, spring rolls etc. buffet style. Mexican various dishes also good. Pool area Two round pools one with fountain one with pool bar, whirlpool and childrens pool. lots of sunbeds around pool and beach area. Games in and around the pool during the day. Barbaques and large paellas during the week. The Riu Yucatan and tequila are close by where you can walk down the beach to the Yucatan for lunch and use the facilities. The tequila is across the road from the Yucatan whose facilities you can also use. The entertainment is mainly dancing with a Michel Jackson show one a week. There are some shops directly across the road where you can buy jewellery t-shirts and souvenirs. Beach There is a lot of erosion across the beaches, becauce of the rough seas, the hotels are putting measures into place to break up the the waves and regain more beach. There is a roped off section in the sea for swimming. Playa del Carmen Downtown Two kilometers away ($5us taxi). with a main street and usual shops (with plenty of bargains), bars and hotels. You can catch bus to Cancun 75min from here. Sightseeing Chichen Itza is a bit special and worth a visit it gets very hot and not much shade take plenty of water and a change of clothing. Tulum is just down the coast also worth a visit. Xel-Ha is a eco park It is a large and beautiful lagoon, where you can swim with dolphins, snorkel (I saw Barracuda Stingrays and conch and many more fish) ride an inflateable down river, or just relax. Have the all inclusive offer with your trip its good value and, get in the water before you eat, visability is lousy in the afternoon."

"Myself and my partner spent 2 weeks at this hotel and found it to be the best all inclusive hotel we have stayed in so far. The hotel and rooms are always spotless and the staff are the best I've experienced yet - they definitely made our holiday, especially Alex at the lobby bar and Fernando in the restaurant, they are always so happy and can not do enough for you. We were there during hurricane Dean and could not believe how great all the staff were, still preparing a full cooked breakfast for us all during the storm! The drinks were great as you can get both local and International brands and a great choice of cocktails and Tequila slammers! There was always fresh fruit smoothies in the restaurants and the bars too. There was a good choice at the buffet restaurant but we also loved visiting the Mexican and Steak House A La Carte restaurants for a change. We were not keen on the Asian one. Staying at this hotel you can also use the facilities of the Riu Tequila and Riu Yucatan, so we had a few drinks there for a change but I think the Riu Playacar is the nicest. The Riu Palace also looks amazing, and some people we met staying there loved it. For trips we did the Cancun night out which was great and Coco Bongo's is amazing, a must do if you have never been to Cancun before. We also did a Catamaran trip and the Jungle Tour where you race your own speed boat, which we loved. I would definitely return to this hotel some day, however as we had some days of bad weather and a hurricane I would probably go in Winter or Spring time. "

"Hotel is amazing. From the food to the clean rooms and fab air condition (which you have full control of!). The staff will go out of their way to accommodate any request. It was my partners birthday and we had a special birthday serenade in Mexican and the best chocolate cake especially made for him and at no extra charge! They also decorated our room especially and we received a fruit basket and huge bottle of tequila - always a winner! I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a fantastic Mexico experience. We are returning 2011 when we have saved up enough money and we are getting married there. The hotel is right on the beach and the fajitas are amazing! There really is no mistaking paradise."

"We went to the Rui Playcar July 5-12, 2002. We had an awesome time! The beach and ocean was beautiful! The bar hopping tour to Cancun was a fun time! Koba and the Mayan ruins was educational, and the snorkeling adventure was incredible! The weather was sunny every day...never a bad day! The bartenders at Rui Playacar: Mosies, Pablo, Victor, and Fransico were the best bartenders anyone could ask for. I would go back to Rui Playacar again! A+++++"

"We just went to RIU Playacar from July 15-19 and had a wonderful time. The place is beautiful and the staff are very friendly and accomodating. The food is plentiful - alot to choose from. I'm a very picky eater and never left hungry. I'm not saying everything was good but by the time you try all the different things you are full. The breakfast is the best meal in my opinion. The beach is great. They had plenty of lounge chairs to use. There were of course some things that could of been better. First of all, we were told they had American beer and they don't. They only had one kind and I think it was Double XX, not very good. Their idea of a frozen drink is not mine. I like mine to actually be slushy!! The air conditioners don't work very good. It was still hot in our rooms at night. It was bearable but we would of liked it to be a little cooler in our rooms, some place to escape the heat. The pool with the swim-up bar was closed for a day and a half. They have two pools so it wasn't that big of a deal but aggravated us at the time. IF you plan on laying out in the pool, bring your own raft, they don't provide any. I bought one down there and ended up paying $20 for a $3 raft. Alot of the people there were rude but that wasn't the resorts fault. All in all we had a wonderful time."

"This resort was great. I had a great time and the food was excellent. I like the friendly people who work there because they make sure everything you need will be available. Try a drink called "The MUMMY" it's good. And YES you do have to reserve your seat at the Turquesa if you want to eat steak. I had to get up and reserve at 7:00am. There a show every night at "La Cumbia" which is located at the hotel. there is a swedish guy there presenting the show who speak many different languages. He's fun to watch because he gets everybody involved including people watching the show. I was on the third floor and the room does have a musty smell. I recommend you bring some fragranse candles or glade."

"We travelled to this destination for our fifth time July 7,2002. We have stayed at Riu Yucatan, Riu Palace and now at the Riu Playacar. I recommend these to anyone. Riu Playacar is a little smaller than the Yucatan but the beach and water were Fantastic! The hotel is nice and clean, great food, rooms are very nice with a changing area and mini bar. We read alot about the smell of the rooms but we did not have a major problem with this. There is a little bit of a musty smell but if you have travelled to any tropical destination, you know this is common. We did not notice it after the first day. The entertainment is ok but not the best I have seen. Everything is done in 4 different languages and is sometimes hard to follow. When we go back, we will probably stay at the Riu Yucatan for a few reasons.1-they had a lobby bar 2-they have a work out gym 3-the Caribbean Street is at the Yucatan as well as the Internet room. If you go this hotel you should ask for building 5000 or 6000-these are closest to the pool and beach and also ask for the side overlooking the walkway. All in all the Playa Del Carmen area is the best vacation area I have ever travelled to. It has alot to offer-eco parks, ruins, shopping right across the street. The town is great-it is safe to walk around in, alot of shops and alot of bars and restaurants to choose from. I would recommend this anyone-singles, families, and couples."

"Me and my wife just spent a wonderful week at the RIU Playacar. You may have read about the A/C problems, ours worked great, no problems at all. There is a bit of a musty smell that may be caused by the Raid that they spray. Just open up the screen door and the smwll will go away. The beaches are beautiful. There are two pool, the one with the bar is more crowded so we use the other one to swim around and lounge around at. The Resort was full but we encountered NO waits for anything. There are plenty of lounge chairs by the beach and pools. The food is plentiful and good. You still have to get up at 7am to make reservations for the steak and seafood resturants, it fills up by 7:30. We ate at the steakhouse once and felt the buffet was better. Men have to wear long pants for the dinner buffet, since most of the dining area is air conditioned it was not a bother. Women can basically wear anything they want. The service is excellent everywhere you go. I felt the drinks were not watered down and there was not a long wait for bar service. We wish they had room service and that you didn't have to eat dinner at the same tim either 6:30 or 8:30. You have to decide on your first day. Any question please e-mail me at [email protected]"

The staff was friendly, and asked if there was anything else they could do for you. The food was great, night shows were excellent, the bar was good, great watersports. i don't want to tell you everything because then I'll ruined your fun but trust me the resort is awsome.
