Great vacation for a couple
"Spent a week, March 2-9 and had a great time. Food was very good and service was equally great. Service was a little slow by American standards but just about right for the rest of the world. Staff really goes out of the way to make you happy. Rooms are nice but need a little more lighting. One great deal is FREE internet in the lobby. Don't see that often. Will go back."

Not what we expected.
"Before booking our stay at HBR, we read many reviews like the others you see here... all very positive with no significant negatives. Having just returned from a week's stay however, we find ourselves part of an apparently small minority... we found this vacation disappointing. The food was wonderful at dinner. Absolute 5 star dining experience with a different menu every night at the only a la carte restaurant. Grounds were nice with convenient proximity to Eldorado Suites next door. After that, it was pretty much downhill for us. After dinner we took lots of walks because that was all there was to do. We like to have at least something going on, but there is no central bar, no music, no mingling place at all. The disco, such that it is, opened at 10:30 and was usually quiet... until then the bar was closed. We often ended up falling asleep to the sound of crickets and rarely saw 10:30. The pool was downright cold. Hot tub was either too hot or too cool, so we never used it, not like us at all. Our experience was, do not count on room service. It was slow at best, usually non existant, contrary to their claims. We met a group of 6 that also commented that the service was poor by any standards, let alone a fairly pricey small niche resort that builds it's reputation on claims of exceptional service. We quickly learned that anything required in your room was best self-served... not worth the aggravation. In room refridgerators are stocked but not cold, so consider them iceboxes if you're willing to fetch your own ice. We are 40 something and don't travel frequently so we have no interest in flying for 4 hours to read all week. We like to be nude in the sun (not particularly for dinner or dancing), but are not lifestyle nudists. We are definitely not party animals, but we found the whole "early to bed early to rise" atmosphere a bit much by the end of the week. To each his own... many guests were repeat visitors and many more planned to return. But just make sure that this type of vacation is what YOU'RE looking for, cause once you're there and the money's spent... it's all over but the crying."

What a great place to relax!!!!
"We just returned from a wonderful week at the resort. The only dissappointment was the beach which we love to walk and sit at. While beach walking was not great...we had no problems just sitting out and tanning and reading. No bugs nothing to bother us. The resort and rooms are very nice....The staff goes out of their way to make it a wonderful experience. While we were there occupancy was low so there was no noon grill but you could still order off the menu. IT was not a problem. The food was great and until they changed chefs on our last couple of days the presentation was second to none. The old chef really did a good job of plate presentation. The quality of the food was outstanding and as long as you learnt to ask for your steak rare it came to you medium rare....otherwise it might have been over cooked... The swim up units are fun but we only used it once, as the water is not heated. We did play in the water volleyball....first time I have played in a bunch of years and we had a blast giggling like kids.... We went on the snorkling sail boat trip and it was great to get out on the water and to snorkle. Was fun to walk along the white sand beaches missing from the resort. We went next door once to just see it and that was enough..people with clothes on are not as friendly......Others ate there but we didn't bother as the food was too good to go next door. The staff went out of their way to make sure we had a table for 6 or 8 people each night, even though we never asked as early as they wanted us to..... The entertainment people are great. Chava, Claudia and Jonthan all make sure your having fun or if you want to be left alone they do that also. THey help make the disco a blast and I do not think that the group of people there had as much fun once our group left....it takes someone to be the catalyst. WE will be back as asap Thanks to all of you we met and who spent time with us in the hot tub. If you have any questions please write we would be happy to expand!"

Should have done this years ago
"My husband and I spent Christmas week in the Yucatan. Our first four days were at the Moon Palace. Though a great place, we couldn't handle all the kids! We're in our early 50's and have raised ours...and don't want hear other kids yelling and screaming around the pool (if we ever hear Marco Polo again it will be too soon). We met a great couple from England that had just spent 5 days at Hidden Beach and they raved about it! The thought of no kids caught our attention but running around without clothes sounded intimidating. We like to sunbath and skinny dip at the house but have never been around any one else. On the fourth day we gave up on the kids and the remaining three days we paid for at the Moon Palace so we booked a room at Hidden Beach and took the plunge. I was nervous! We're both 20 lbs overweight and not going to make the cover of a magazine....but our new found friends from England said that the guests are all shapes and sizes and not to worry. We were warmly greeted when we arrived and treated to a cool towel and drink. We were led up to our room which was very nice....not 5 star but very comfortable. Our room was downstairs on the "river" which leads to the pool area. A neat touch! After unpacking, we went out to the river and went to the pool. We were both nervous. After an hour we both started to relax. After a few hours, it felt right at home! I didn't think I would relax this easily...but it just seemed so natural. During the next three days we met some great people (Hi Jenny and Tim!) and our English friends were right...the people were all shapes and sizes. We had a fabulous time. The resort is a nudist resort, not a swingers resort (we wouldn't of gone if it had been so) so there were no games being played between the guests. We've never relaxed so much on such a short vacation. The food was good, the staff was GREAT and we loved the romantic double lounges under the palapas. The resort is totally private including the beach so there are no gawkers. You can also go next door (with your clothes on) and use all the facilities at the El Dorado including dinning, though the El Dorado guests can't come over to Hidden Beach. We had dinner there twice and had a great massage too! And...no kids are allowed! We both love to snorkel and scuba dive. We couldn't snorkel in front of Hidden Beach which would have been fun doing the skinny-snorkel thing. We did snorkel off the beach at El Dorado (and did manage to skinny dip..though don't tell anyone!) Overall it was an amazing trip and we 're planning on going back in April. Why did we wait all these years to try a nudist resort? We have been missing out!"

A great clothing-optional choice
"The word to describe HBR is "laid-back". It's a small, all-inclusive, non-"swinger" nudist resort with very nice facilities and an even nicer staff. The clientele is varied in age, mostly American but with a smattering of Canadians and Brits, even the occasional Mexican! Wonderful pool, somewhat unreliable hot tub (nice when the thermostat worked!). The beach is attractive, but not really swimmable. The food was good, not great, and got a little monotonous. Fortunately, you can get some variety by eating at the El Dorado resort next door, but you have to get dressed for it. As far as activities go, just remember that the Yucatan is really hot and humid, even in the winter. Any activity that doesn't involve water should be done EARLY and sunscreen (SPF 150) is a must."

"First time at Hidden Beach. Met really friendly people from everywhere. The staff was always doing the extras that makes you remember them. The food was great. Can't wait to return. Thanks for the great holiday."

Already making plans to go back
"We went on a day pass to Hidden Beach and did not want to leave so we ended up getting a room for the night. Everything was PERFECT. It was our first time to experience an all nude resort and were very pleased. The atmosphere, food, staff, guests and entertainment exceeded all expectations. We played water volleyball, layed out by the pool, had GREAT drinks and service during our stay. The evening presented even more enjoyment. We had a wonderful dinner and an exciting evening at the disco. We ended the evening laying by moonligt in one of the palapas down on the beach. Unfortunately, we had to return to our booked hotel in Cancun. Next time we will be booked at Hidden Beach! To all who have never experienced an all nude resort and are thinking about it like we were.....stay at Hidden Beach....enjoy.....you will love it!"

"My wife and I have been to this wonderful resort twice, and we are currently planning our third trip. The food and service are excellent, the facilities are first-class, and for those of you who haven't tried the "au naturel" experience - it's a blast!"

Hidden Beach a wonderful retreat-July 10-17, 2004
"My husband and I spent a wonderful, relaxing week at Hidden Beach in early July. We have been to many Carribean and Mexican resorts, including Royal Hidaway and Riu Palace in Mayan Riveria, Sandles and Grand Lido, Negril in Jamaica. The relaxing atmosphere and the professional, attentive service we experienced at Hidden Beach far surpassed any we had enjoyed at these other wonderful resorts. We felt very comfortable at our first au naturel reasort. Guests were dressed in cover-ups or casual clothes for most meals. The food was very good, although with only one kitchen, the choices were somewhat limited, each night brought new, excellently prepared and presented choices. The wait staff anticipated any needs before we even asked. Each afternoon pasteries and tea were served. A wide range of breakfast choices were available on the buffet every morning, but menu choices were always available. There is no night life. except for the disco-which had few to quite a few visitors each night. The activity staff is fantastic and offers several activities through out each day. Our room was not too large, but as nice as we have had anywhere. We had a 1st floor suite, with a swim-up room, comfortable patio with hammock and chairs. What a treat! The beach is not wide and is fairly "corally", but next door at the El Dorado that coral provided some very nice snorkeling. If you are looking for an extroidinarily relaxing resort, with excellent food and service, you can not beat Hidden Beach! We can't wait to return!"
