El Taj was Amazing!!!
"Playa was an amazing place with so much to do. We stayed in the Penthouse sweet 345 which was a 3 bed room with a humongous roof top patio. The El Taj is so beautiful we actually had some younger kids taking pictures of it from outside. The lighting at night is spectacular...pictures do not do it justice. It was especially nice to hang out on the roof top patio that had a fridge, hot tub and tons of space and privacy.
I found the location to be prime as it was right on a large white beach ocean and in the middle of the tourist sector very near the famous 5th Ave Market (3min walk). The beach club was easy to use and everything you needed was right out your door step. Also, it was very nice to just lounge around the pool to cool off. The pool was very nice.
As I said the El Taj is near many of the night clubs so if you want that type of excitement it is very close but at night we did not hear any noise from these clubs.
The restaurant was convenient and tasted good but we rarely ate there due to the large selection of nearby places to try. From Lobster to Nacho's there was pretty much anything you wanted within a few minutes walk.
All in all I would definitely go back and bring some friends. It was great.

Great choice in Playa del Carmen
"My companion and I spent 3 nights at in Playa del Carmen and stayed at El Taj, unit 27.
My only regret is that we couldnât have stayed longer, which we will on the next trip.
I would love to get this 1 BR unit again too, because of its ideal location within the complex. The whole development is brand new, located right on the beach. The staff is extremely helpful and courteous; the restaurant is surprisingly good too.
The location of El Taj is great: restaurants and retail shops all within an easy walk.
All in all, a great property in a wonderful beachside resort.

EL Taj provided the ideal location, amenities and service for our vacation
"We recently stayed at El Taj Oceanfront (as opposed to Beachside, the sister property directly behind), a 1BR/!BA with our two toddlers. The unit we stayed in (#27) was very roomy, very nicely decortated and equipped with a great kitchen The view from inside the unit was great, right out to beach and ocean and the location was literally just steps to the pool, beach and a great restaurant (Indigo). Service was very good, with staff being very friendly and helpful, not simply polite or courteous, always eager to assist from the security/front door man to the housekeepers, beach club staff, front desk, etc, You felt that it was important to them that your expierience be great and they wanted you to feel "at home". It was also very quiet! Especially inside the unit with the windows closed, you couldn't hear anything at night, no music or beats from the nearby clubs as I had read about at some of the other properties, etc. For the toddlers we had mattress provided in the living room, which during the day we simply stored along the wall in the BR, very easy and worked out great (1 on the mattress, the little one in the BR with us). We will defineatly stay here again on our next trip to playa, and will request the same unit as it semed to be one of only couple 1BR's that has the better view and larger size than the others. Though we didn't use it, a full service Gym is included (2 blocks away at one of their other properties) in the stay and we heard a dive shop and new york deli will be added soon. We also had access to the pool at El Taj Beachside which is beautiful as well, and was nice for the kids to mix it up a bit."

Awesome place and location
"Traveled with my spouse and 10 year old over spring break and stayed at the El Taj Oceanfront. The hotel/condos are recently completed and in immaculate shape The staff was very friendly and helpful and maids did a great job keeping the unit clean. We stated in a one bedroom and had a mattress brought in for our daughter to stay in the main area (worked out fine). The unit (#327) is beautifully decorated and is close to the pool and hot tub with a bit of a view to the ocean. The location is right on the beach and one or two blocks to the shopping/restaurants/nightlife, etc... It was nice having a kitchen in the unit and being off the beaten path of the mega hotels. Would definitely stay there again."

PERFECT and BEST place in Playa del Carmen!
"El Taj was recently remodeled, and everything feels and smells like new! Beautiful decoration, arquitecture, and facilities, very zen feeling as soon as you step into the condohotel. My in-laws, my husband and I, and new btoehr in law and his girlfriend stayed at the 3 bedroom penthouse, and the noise from the clubs was not an issue. We could only hear it in the background if we were in the balcony.
The villa had all the ammenities you could ask for, including a washing machine, although maid service is provided daily. The pool and beach area have excellent service and food. Most villas have private jacuzzis, and balconies to enjoy the wonderful breeze and views of the beach, and Cozumel.
This condohotel is a block away from 5ta Avenida, and all the shops, massage places, bars, and everything that makes Playa so great. Even has parking! Wifi also provided by the hotel, but u can access wifi without passwords from nearby spots. The GYM is SPECTACULAR! and u get a 50% discount when staying at the Taj.
I would hands down recommend this place to families, couples, and friends, it is the BEST place in Playa for the price!"

"The new El Taj Ocean is by far the best Condo/Hotel on Playa Del Carmen. I stayed in the Penthouse overlooking the beach and have included a few pic's. The new beach is awesome and with the addition of the Indigo beach club at El Taj you do not have to fight for chairs and the food and service is second to none. El Taj was about 90% done the pool and hot tub which looked awesome we couldn't use but if wanted we could use El Taj Beach. We are going back to Playa Spring Break with the family and staying at El Taj and hopefully it will be 100% complete especially the pool.
As for 5th street it is back and the tourist were out walking, shopping and dining. It was good to see that most of our favorite restaurants made it through the depression. La Chapa Choza is a must best margarita (Cadillac Margarita) in fact we always have a night where we go to La chapa Choza and everything must be made tableside. Cadillac Margarita, Tequilla & Garlic Shrimp, Guacamole, Banana Fosters and Mayan Coffee. Once finished you need to walk 5th street 3 times to burn off the calories. We found a new Italian restaurant Era Ora its on 1st street right behind El Taj Beach. It is inexpensive and good pasta and pizza. (Ravioli and Margarita Pizza). Davninci (The Glass Bar) was great and for people watching great location. Negrosal has a great atomoshpere and very elegant but the food sometimes hit and miss. This time it was a hit.
I will update after we return from our next stay."

Awesome - I highly recommend this Condo Hotel
"El Taj was absolutely wonderful. The Staff was was very courteous and helpful, the location was superb, and the amenities were top-notch. If you are able to scrounge up two couples that you do not mind sharing your quarters with this is also a very economical way to travel to Playa Del Carmen.
We stayed in room 306 with two other couples, and this room offers a penthouse complete with hot tub, grill, refridgerator, outside shower and plenty of seating room.
The beach is only a block away, and 5th avenue is only two blocks away. There are two grocery stores that are within walking distance and the cab fare to get back (with all your groceries) was only $5.00. Phantom Diving is also only a block away, and I recommend them as well.
I would love to detail all the amenities but that would take too long, just rest assured that if you are looking for a high-end condo this is the one for you. I absolutely recommend this condo hotel."

Hard to Beat for Value and Ambience
"In the interest of full disclosure, my wife and I are Travel Agents. After much discussion with our clients, we booked several units at the El Taj. Never having been there, and with only the website pictures to go by, it was a bit of a dice roll, but we went for it anyway.
Our initial contact and customer support prior to booking was really quite good. The booking staff were most congenial and very forthcoming with info and recommendations. After booking we were handed off to another staff member Lourdes, and she too was very helpful and cooperative. So far so good. After landing in Cancun our contracted transport was indeed waiting for us at the baggage terminal and with a minimum of problem we loaded up and headed on down to Playa Del Carmen. Upon arrival at the condo units, we immediately discovered that the "ambience" and locatrion were not quite what the website would lead you to believe. While the location map on the website clearly shows the building to be across the street from the beach, the photos and description don't quite let on that across that street was a high rise construction project (another building belonging to the same place it turns out) blocking out most of the idyllic scenery the photos would have you believe. This of course elicited a few negative comments from people in our group which, under different circumstances, could have lead to real problems fo my wife and me. Once entering the complex and being shown to our units however, the fatigue and stress of travel, along with the consternation heard just moments before, began to wane big time. The place is that nice. Bright, airy, clean, upscale, comfortable, ample, and convenient, the condos started to win over everybody almost immediately. Once everyone got familiar with the surroundings, found the really cool beach bar down the street (not even 200 ft.) and we all sampled the pool (which was NEVER crowded and lots of fun) the place won us over.
Playa del Carmen is a very vibrant place and the El Taj is smack in the middle of it. A very short walk led us to a really good Italian restaurant, the great afformentioned beach, and a delightful seafood restaurant that I would go to any time anywhere, the Blue Lobster.
Aside from the non-beachfront location, I cannot recommend this place enough, and have indeed suggested it to many of our clients. It is only a matter of time before we return, and knowing the staff I expect it to be as good or better than ever!"

Idylic (except for the noise from the nightclubs)
"The condo is situated a few minutes from the beach and 5th Ave so the location is fantastic until you want to go to sleep !!
We were originally booked into Villa Sacbe which is another site owned by Condo Hotels but our room had a leak so we were upgraded for the night to El Taj. After staying in El Taj we decided to stay on and upgrade (we did get a discount but the list price was $487 per night - rather expensive for Playa Del Carmen). Porto Playa is also owned by Condo Hotels and with hindsight we should have booked the same style condo at Porto Playa which is much better situated, just 10 minutes from the beach and only $330 per night.
The rooms are finished beautifully, you can see why they are so expensive and they have a 24 hour security guard and front office receptionist so it felt very private and safe. Safes were included foc which was a nice touch and the fridge was partially stocked with drinks (which you have to pay for obviously). A maid came daily and spent two hour cleaning but was unobtrusive. The private roof top terrace and hot tub were a bonus because the terrace continued to get the sun long after the pool area was shaded. There is an infinity swimming pool and jacuzzi but only a four comfortable sun loungers however we rarely shared to pool with anyone - most people went to the beach.
Now the only bad stuff - The condo is within eyesight of the clubbing area which played extreamly loud music until 5am every night. We stayed in Apartment 315. The master bedroom was quiet but our daughters bedroom seemed to bear the brunt of the noise so we ended up buying her ear plugs. If you are planning on being out until 5am in the morning then this wont be a problem for you! Additionally, directly across from the street between the condo and the beach additional apartments are being built so when by the pool the noise was disturbing at times.
In all, a great condo if they had built it a bit futher away from the noise of the nightclubs and builders."

TOP TEN PLACES TO VISIT!
"EL TAJ MAY 4-8TH 2008.
We arrived around 1:30 to find our room not quite ready. We were staying in room 306 (penthouse w/ 3 bdrms & 2 baths). They let security take up our bags so we could at least put on our swim suits.
NOTICE: There are NO ELEVATORS!! Thank God security carried up the bags! This place is not for anyone needing handicap assistance! Also you need to sober up before your trek up! When we came back from the beach our condo was beautiful. It looks just like the photos online.
NOTICE: Every time we returned to our condo there seemed to be a raw sewage/musty smell. We brought some air freshener and that seemed to mask it.
A few problems with keeping enough bath towels in stock. We had 6 girls and always seemed to have only 4 bath towels. Beach towels are "checked out" in the office upon return of the one from the day before.
The maid seemed to do a good job. When we would return home I always had to look for my things in the drawers. She must not like things sitting out.
We hired a private chef to cook breakfast and dinner for us on our last day. Fernando recommended one, I think his name was Armondo. We would do this again in a heartbeat. He came on time and cooked us a 3 course breakfast. Fruit, Banana pancakes, then omelet w/ ham and veggies and cheese! and Jalapieno mashed potatoes! we had so much food we could have eaten off this for 3 days. Dinner was cream of broccoli soup, pasta with half red/alfredo sauce, chicken chimmichanga then crepe filled with nutella & fruit with strawberry puree and kiwi puree. we ended up spending $55 each including the tip. worth every penny!
If you are looking to go out to the clubs at night this is the place to stay! it is only a 100ft walk from coco maya, blue parrot, om bar and many more. you can hear the music from the balcony but not from inside the rooms!"
