Krystal Beach Acapulco

Stay away from the Avalon
"The hotel is at the end of the strip of hotels. Its in walking distance to many shops. The food for the all inclusive program is very limited and is served several times during the week. French fries, sandwiches are not on the all inclusive program. All inclusive is buffet only. Drinks for the all inclusive program is from 10:30 am until 10:30 pm. If you are on the beach with a wrist band for all inclusive, you will not be waited on; therefore, you have get your own drinks while you're sitting on the beach. Either that, or if you're not Mexican national, you will not be served. A couple next to us had an all inclusive band, and was served drinks. (They were Mexican nationals) The staff in the restuarants appear to be very unhappy and agitated. Really not a pleasant place to stay on vacation. Take you money somewhere else. The nicest person was a gentleman that was from Acapulco, but live in MA for 6 months. He knew how to treat a visitor."

Don't be afraid of negative reviews, the Excalibur is great!
"We stayed at the Avalon Excalibur from Feb. 20-25, 2005. Our stay exceeded our expectations(maybe because of the other reviews we read). The entrance, lobby area, restaurants, and pool area were well kept and very appealing as you entered. The elevators were always readily available and very fast. The rooms were very open and sizeable. You could tell some fixtures in the bathroom were old, but they were well maintained and clean. The beach and cabana area provided protection from the sun and entertainment, but get there early to reserve your cabana. The local salespeople stroll the beach with a wide variey of products. The staff at the hotel make sure you are not bothered, if you do not want to be. The hotel staff is more than willing to assist you. Beginning with the bell hops(ask for Fernando) who can set you up with interesting tours of the local area, to the maids who put the extra effort in to see you have whatever you need day or night. The waiters and restaurant staff couldn't have been nicer. Overall, the Avalon Excalibur provides everything you will need for an enjoyable trip to Acapulco. Get some pesos at the local banks and have fun!!"

No redeeming features
"The horror of the Avalon Excalibur has been fairly well covered in previous reviews.....based on my stay there(managed 3 of the originally planned 9 days before finding another hotel) I can only wholeheartedly agree with the negative reviews of this "hotel",its staff and amenities. I cannot imagine what the previous hotel experiences of people posting positive reviews of this hotel must be. Avoid this dump at all costs!!!!"

Family of Four Had a great Time--Jan 26--2005
"We just returned from the Avalon Excalibur in Acapulco and it was great! The rooms are clean, the staff is good and they are friendly. Our family had a wonderful time which by the way included two adults and two children aged 13 and 10. The kids only complained once about the food ( 1 day) and my kids are picky eaters. My spouse and I have travelled much more and found the "buffet" (when you are all inclusive that is all you get) a limited in choices however, you are getting real mexican food you are not getting Canadian/American food so if you are expecting that you will not be having that on your buffet menu. There is a Hotdog and Hamburger mini food service that is available to guests. You have to order via the waiters though or you will not get served it is the hotels policy for tracking. The second restaurant at the hotel you can only eat at on Mon, Wed and Fri when you are all inclusive also and it is buffet only and again traditional mexican food as well. Go out to eat...it is very reasonable and safe to eat if you want more choices. Make sure you go and see King Coco at the beach he is great and very friendly. The trips with the locals are safe and lots of fun they don't speak english very well though. But they are very reasonable. Go out and explore the city, jump on a city bus they are wild and lots of fun! The peddlers on the beach yes they are there but if you say no they will leave you alone, you get that in every warm sunny tropical destination. You will get good deals though one word for you..just barter back and forth it is fun and a great learning experience for kids and adults. When we read these reviews before we went we didn't know what to expect, I can tell you this we would definately go back. To address some compaints we read we would suggest the following: No chairs on the balconies: bring your chairs out from your room we did and assumed that was why they were there. Alarm clocks/Hairdryers: Bring your own Noise: It doesn't matter what side you are on of the hotel you will either get music noise from the entertainment or traffic noise. Neither are really that bad. Remember this city has 3 million people. Pools: they are smaller but not to bad. This hotel is one of the major time share locations as well. Many locals have bought in to the hotel (upper middle class people), they use the hotel quite often. They are friendly and fun to meet as well. But the hotel can become busdy at times."

"Not what supose to be. All inclusive is a disaster. Not only you will get no service, you will see the diference of it. The so called mountain side view is that half the hotel faces the road. If you don't want to sleep it is the right place to be. No theme nights. Entertainment is Karaoke. There are two flood controls one in each side of the Hotel. If it rains the water front will be dirty for a while. This hotel is being sold as time sharing. So the best rooms are gone or will be gone. Stay away"

AVOID AT ALLL COSTS
"After traveling quite often, maybe i've taken for granted the quality of hotels that I've visited... okay after going to the Avalon.. I've definately taken for granted the quality of hotels I've visited. This was simply the worst stay that I've ever had. 1. Checking in.. A nightmare.. Mass confusion.. people checking in / checking out at the same time.. Too few people helping at the reception desks.. Many people fighting over their bills. No Air conditioning while checking in doesn't help either. 2. Food.. Can't comment.. Didn't get All Inclusive package and didn't really want it at this hotel. Always ate elsewhere. 3. Pools.. a Joke.. way too small and packed with many children at all times.. no time to enjoy. 4. Beach.. Packed with vendors bugging you every 5 minutes. Loud boats and jetskis polluting the water with gasoline.. Acapulco beaches really aren't the most beautiful in the world anyways but that is not the hotel's fault. 5. Rooms.. Had a standard ocean view.. Bed.. way too short.. perhaps they shipped these right from the prisons and they were so hard and uncomforatable.. No furniture on patio.. No Alarm clocks.. No hairdryer.. iron or other basic necessities.. Small TV.. and ohh the classy move of getting our remote contron while checking in since they can't leave them in the rooms cause apparently too many people are stealing them.. Bathroom had holes platered up and no towel racks and very outdated. NO RUNNING WATER for 2 hours one day. Lack of hot water for showers when we did have running water. View was nice.. but then again.. no chair on balcony to enjoy it.. lol.. Rooms cleaned well but then again.. not much to clean. Small Room Safes.. All sounds come through room walls.. especially by the elevators. 6. Elevators.. HORRENDOUS.. long wait.. packed with children.. always broken.. Do not stay here unless you have no other choice because of late booking.. that was my scenario.. The price is lower then other hotels for a reason!!"

"I loved the mexican culture. It may take you awhile to adjust to being the only American staying at the Avalon in Acapulco. Overall, rooms were very clean. Look for Fernando(Bellman) superior gentleman! Elevators are Horrible! Did not enjoy being stuck!"

Great Thanksgiving Week
"This was my second time to stay at this Hotel. It is very pretty, clean, nice beach, and the food is even good, but we still went out to eat. The staff at the bars were very nice and the entertainment team there makes you feel as if you have been freinds forever. Thanks Miguel! Also dont forget to look for Lydia on the beach. This lady will give you a 1 hour message for $20.00. I have used her for 3 years. Dont hesitate to stay here. I read the other review about lots of teenagers being there, but this could happen any hotel and any given time. This time was all family's, if you go at Spring Break expect roudy kids in every hotel. Have a great time here at Casino night, & Karoke night."

We had a wonderful time!. November 4th, 2004
"We went to Acapulco for a weeding. The hotel Lobby was very nice and clean with a beautiful view. People were very nice and helpful. All the elevators were working. We had a room with ocean view that was just awsome. The bathrooms need a little updating but were nice and clean. The location of this hotel is excellent!! close to everything. We do recomend this place. My sister stayed at El Presidente and that placed is old and ugly. Some other family stayed at Fiesta Inn and they liked it a lot."
