Hilton Al Hamra Beach & Golf Resort
10 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
Great getaway and fair prices.
"I spent a week here in May 2006 with my wife and friends (In fact I am still here and emailing in the cool of the biz centre). we have travelled to Dubai many times for business and pleasure and wanted to get away from the cranes and constant traffic for a change?! Al Hamra is about a 90 minute drive North of Dubia and a taxi for the day into Dubai only costs around $80 so a day in the Malls of Dubia is easily achievable. The hotel itself has extensive building work going on but this does not effect the main pool and beach areas. The breakfast buffet is fine although we would recommend that you do not book half board as their are six restaurants to choose from and al are reasonably priced. Try it and for prices in June starting at around $700 for a weeks bed and breakfast and including flights from London you can't go wrong. Enjoy!"

Good family holiday
"We had a week's break here and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We have one baby and two older children and it catered for all of them. The staff were very friendly and welcomed the children in the restaurants. The food was excellent and very good value for money. We stayed in a deluxe room on the 2nd floor with a beautiful sea view. The rooms are very spacious with good facilities throughout the hotel. The gardens are immaculate and the beach is fantastic.
Although there are building works continuing in the surrounding area this does not in any way affect your stay. You cannot see it or hear it.
We would rate this hotel as a genuine 4* and would recommend it to others."

Superb....great location....great value.....QUALITY
"Just returned from our second visit in two years. Despite the extensive building work on the perimeter of the resort, it's still an outstanding location. The beaches, restaurants, pools and rooms are excellent and the staff are ultra-friendly and courteous. The Al Jazeera Arabic restaurant is great fun and excellent food. Go for a chalet room (with beach view) rather than the main hotel - although the main hotel rooms are very good too. Gripes? The price of soft drinks is steep and the practice of people putting their towels on the sunloungers at 7 am and not using them until the afternoon is ridiculous....especially when the hotel's own "doctor" does it. Great resort for children of all ages."

"We stayed at the Al Hamra Fort Hotel for 7 nights for our honeymoon. We had a deluxe balcony room on the first floor of the main hotel - a good sized room and balcony. The pool and beach facilities were excellent. The food available was varied, of good quality and reasonably priced. There is much construction, at the rear of the main hotel and around the lagoon area, but this was not noticeable at all from the main hotel. The service was excellent - from reception staff, restaurant staff and room service. Would definitely return."

"We are a family of four, two adults and two kids of 6 and 4 and just returned from a week in Al Hamra.
We were located in the village which is indeed 500m away from the main hotel. We didn't see that as a problem since there are golf carts continuously running inbetween and the rooms are excellent there. We had a junior suite which is more than ok to house 4 people.
We loved the Al Hamra for the quality, comfort and setting: the beachfront location is truly wonderful with well maintained gardens.
The food is excellent and comes in big quantities.
It is indeed far away from Dubai, so if you're more into the spectacle of the world class restaurants and shopping malls Dubai has to offer, don't come here.
We rented a car, which was easy to do, and drove to Dubai. It takes you up to two hours if you have bad luck with the traffic jams.
Anyhow, if you're looking for a five star summer resort to relax, this is the place !"

Not what we were led to believe
"we stayed here for two weeks at the end of October and expected to be housed in the main hotel-in fact we did not know the village existed till we arrived at 3am.Our toilet failed to function the drawers had no handles and the wardrobe was equipped with 2 hangers. We complained immediately and were promised a move to the main hotel but it took all day with a lot of tenacity on our part.Even then we were still threatened with extra charges. We would not go back-the attitude was arrogant and it is too far from Dubai in a town with no facilities.Wr travelled with a French group all of whom were unhappy and had like us been misled on the accommodation front. If you want to go to this hotel-be warned the Village is a building site and your holiday will be spoiled."

Beware of Rooms Nos. 888 up!
"Rooms Nos. 888 up in the "Village" area are about 1.5km
far away of the main hotel building and its beach, time consuming shuttle service. Beware of all "Standard Rooms", those are two stars only!"

"My wife and i stayed at the The Al Hamra Fort Townhouses on a H/B basis for only three days. Our room which was upgraded to a Junior Suite was excellent, roomy and spacious. The Village Restaurant located about 50m away from our room and close to the pool provided an excellent array of food which was served by the witresses with no fuss whatsoever. The breakfast was very nourishing, the evening meal which was first class also had theme nights which meant if you required to choose were charged a supplement onto your room bill . Only an extra £4.00 - £ 6.00 but it was worth it as you could always go back for seconds or even thirds if you was hungry. There was little if any entertainment during the days so it was nice to relax by the spacious pools and laze around on your sun lounger. There is a small shopping mall in Ras Al Khaimah 16 miles away costing 25 Dirhams in a taxi about £ 5.00 but dont expect too much its not as good as the malls in dubai. All in all an excellent stay whilst at the al hamra fort its a shame we never spent the whole week there , we spent the following three days at the Hilton Ras Al Khaimah which im afarid to say is nothing to write home about....One point to be aware of there is currently building around the hotel but not what you would expect in uk as the heat does restrict the workers so you can enjoy your long lay ins before venturing to breakfast about 0930hrs enjoy your stay"

"Like most people I do tend to take notice of the bad points people note in their reviews but I must state those noted about this hotel were not apparent during our stay.
Ok the hotel is under construction as you enter off the main road of Ras Al Khaimah which will not be completed until 2008 due to the complexity of building a golf course around a lagoon. However once you enter the main complex you will not notice this at all unless like us you are flying around the lagoon on a jet ski completeley relaxed which will not bother you at all.
We stayed in a deluxe room on the first floor of the main building with a superb view of the sea, pools and gardens. The rooms was spacious and very tidy with prompt cleaing each day.
Regarding the points raised about slow service, ok the staff may not be the quickest at times but please note they are working in temperatures of over 40 degress and you can wait that minute longer for your beer as you are on holiday and are not short of time. The quality of food/beverages available was excellent and extremely good value.
Guest services were able to provide info on daily excusrsions whilst the health club was always efficient in organising tennis etc.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the Al Hamra Fort and would be delighted to go again!"
