Functional rooms for GOOD friends
"Overall the room as functional and a great price, me and a friend went to a concert so weren't in the room very long, I had a couple of issues though:
-shower opaque door opened directly into the room, so no privacy for getting dressed/dried etc.
-only two towels in the room
-no phone to contact reception
-no tea/coffee facilities
-Breakfast was a complete waste of money!!! 2.90 and all you get is toast/ bran flakes/cornflakes/crossiant and tea/coffee, thats IT!! now that in my book is not a continental breakfast
As long as its just a bed to sleep in then its fine, a bit like a jail cell but functional. I would use again (without the breakfast) if i were going to another event at the arena as the hotel is 2minutes away."

Slightly worse than prison
"Very very bad. Really unpleasant. Room was like a jail cell, but with fewer conveniences. Very small, and we had the large room!"

Worth the money you pay!
"This hotel is very basic, but for £35 what do you expect?? I booked along with 2 friends for one night as we were going to the Arena. We booked breakfast at £2.95 each, so it was under £15 each for b&b. The room was compact but had everything you needed, the bed wasn't as bad as some people make out. The walls were a bit dirty with suspect things......but apart from that the room was clean. Great as a base for going out, probably not the best for relaxing in luxury!!"

"Excellent location just five minutes walk from the Arena and restaurants at Centertainment and close to the tram stop. Very small car park so get there early (we arrived at 12 and it was almost empty). Great value breakfast (£2.95) and plentiful supplies of fresh sandwiches and snacks in the foyer but the breakfast area is very small so might be a bit of a squash at peak times. Room was basic but very clean and modern. I laughed at previous postings stating how uncomfortable the beds are. Unfortunately, they're so true! I like a firm bed but that was the hardest bed I've ever slept on - the pavement would have been softer! Quite a noisy hotel when everyone is returning from the Arena but recommended for a cheap overnight stay."

nice & clean
"nice clean hotel close to everywhere the only thing it lacked was a kettle it would have been nice to have a drink of tea or coffee before leaving our room.was surprise you had to make a deposit for a tv control of £10 pounds.also while staying on the ground floor you could hear people above and doors slamming in the corridor this is not the hotels folt just the individual overall a really nice cheap budget hotel. would reccommend"

Good for the price
"After reading other reviews on this site about impossibly hard beds etc, I was slightly concerned about this hotel. Ok, so its all pretty basic, but if you are looking for somewhere to crash for a couple of nights its pretty perfect. The beds were a bit hard, but no where near as bad as stated in other reviews, and although lack of tea facilities may be annoying, we brought our own kettle. When we first arrived the reception was very busy (the Team GB boxing team were staying too) but we were dealt with quickly and politely. The breakfast room is quite small and was fairly packed on the Sunday morning, but it was adequate and for the price the breakfast was simle but fine. The hotel is near restaurants and the tram stop, and taxis weren't too expensive. Overall, for a short break, I would stay here again."

"Me and Mum arrived at about 11am with hopes to check in to our room (under the impressions that check in was 11am) to head over to the arena for GIAN. According to the receptionist (who did not seem happy to see us, as looking around we were not the only one whom wanted to check in) check in wasn't till later. Eventually we had to leave luggage in storage and head over (to check in later).
The bed was still like a rock at night, and there was a very loud banging at night in the other room."

cheap and cheerful
"I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived at the hotel as a friend had booked it and at £35 per night I was expecting the worst. Ok it's basic but all we really needed was somewhere to rest our heads after a night out. The reception area was clean and well managed, the staff very friendly and helpful at giving out directions and advising us of places to eat, they even printed out a tram timetable for us. The rooms are small with no frills or extras but I don't think you can complain at that for the price and all rooms have a power shower. There's no resteraunt/bar as such, but a continental buffet breakfast is available for £2.95 and served in a nice cafe type area attached to the reception and snack type food (sandwiches, crisps, chocolate etc) can be bought all around the clock. The location is excellent with the supertram running close by, Meadowhall 10 minutes up the road and cinema, bowling alley and resteraunts literally next door."

The beds hurt
"good value for money. Don't expect to sleep though, the beds are rock hard. As in concrete is softer than those mattresses."

Dont expect any sleep!
"This is a great budget hotel, nice and clean with very compact rooms, at 35 pound per room for up to 3 people and only 2.95 for continental breakfast, you cant go wrong. Great location BUT no kettle in room to make a brew, the shower is in the room itself, no bath, dont use the toilet if you are claustrophobic, and the plug for a hairdryer etc is on the opposite side of the room to the mirror! The slightest noise seems to echo around the hotel and the bed, well thats another story. The bed was nice and clean, but the mattress was ROCK hard, and several days after our stay, we are still suffering with our backs. We just could not get comfy so hardly slept. So if you have any kind of back problems, DO NOT STAY HERE YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! Overall, cheap but clean accommodation, but wouldnt stay there again."

Hard days nite and I didn't sleep like a log!
"I had read the reviews about Etap especially about the mattress in the room being hard. How bad can it be??? Oh boy did I find out.
Myself and partner went to see Rush at Hallam FM Arena. Etap is very handy and a very short walk to the arena. This is a cheap and cheerful hotel. Basically you get what u pay for, a bed, shower, TV and a clean room. The bed........ I had a few drinkies but that did not help, I did not get a wink of sleep. Anyone with back problems should not stay here. I was hardly refreshed from a good nights sleep!
Breakfast, yeah cheap and cheerful also, continental don't be expecting any bacon! Ha Ha. The reception area was where breakfast was served and was too small an area to accomodate the number of people that stay there during busy times.
It is a cheap hotel but only good for a one nighter and for people that don't mind sleeping on a mattress formed from a block of wood!"

If you like home comforts - give it a miss
"Booked to spend two nights with the intention of arriving in the early hours from a birthday party, staying in bed, relaxing and getting ready for a good afternoon and heavy evening on the town. Arrived to find 'Horror of horrors' to two T totallers who travel with their own T bags (and combi fan/heater) but didn't take the travel kettle (well you don't expect to take a kettle to a place describing itself as a 'Hotel' in England do you?) Guess what - NO KETTLE, the only facilities being a £1.20 a throw drinks availability in the reception (there goes the cheap room). Needless to say to those who understand, this totally undermined any possible relax time, we didn't get any, didn't stay the next night, indeed we weren't up to staying for the afternoon/evening on the town. We went home and had a Totally ruined weekend - all for the sake of there being no covering note on the WEB page saying 'NO KETTLE'. Better would have been to add to this ' WE ARE A HOSTEL not a CHEAP HOTEL'. We are just waiting now to see that we don't end up getting charged for both nights even though the second was cancelled a good 17 hours before the deadline."
