Our problems started at 4.00pm 2/9/2016 there was a delay at getting caravan key. once we got our keys, we went straight to the caravan hoping to start a relaxing weekend with out two children. As you can see from the attached photos, this caravan was not fit for purpose. The microwave has burning around the door the light fitting in one of the children's bedroom had no cover, the shower door would only open about 20", The carpets had not been cleaned very well, And the boiler had not been serviced and looked rusty and black smoke coming out of the pilot light area. We went back to reception to complain and was offered another caravan which was not fit for us as we need parking outside the caravan and was very small. So the 3rd time we complained and Claire at thought we go pop into town and do a bit of shopping. We got back about 10.15 and was confronted by some angry residents shouting at us not to drive on the grass. I was told from Claire at reception this was ok as we had a car that was electric and needed to be charged.I phoned reception and told them the problem and they said they would have words with the residents to explain that my car was electric and need to be charged. At about 12.00 dinner time from our caravan all i could see was about 3 residents keep looking and pointing towards our caravan and car. All i wanted was a relaxing holiday with my children and it started to turn into a nightmare didn't feel welcome or comfortable after two of the residents where shouting they where not allowed to park on the grass
and said i should go to reception and get it sorted. This was not 12.15 we felt very unwelcome and decided that our holiday was been ruined from first check in. We had not even been there a full 24 hours and we felt let down in all areas of our holiday. After going to reception at 12.30 Claire was in a meeting and we had to call back. at 13.15 Claire could not help us anymore saying they had no more caravans available leaving us no option but to go home this was at about 13.15 not even 22 hours had passed and we where heading home. The owners of 31 Wansbeck View, and 20 Summer Meadows don't have much respect for holiday makers. Not sure what caravan the other woman was from i think it was also a caravan in the Summer Meadows. I will certainly not be recommending Sandy bay to anyone. "

"Never ever ever be tempted to buy a holiday home from Park Holidays, they will charge top dollar when you buy but rock bottom prices if you sell, some people lost £THOUSANDS in less than a year!!!site is nice if a bit boggy in wet weather, nice people on site not some staff though site shop quite small for the size of the site, which is now expanding, now I know where the money comes from. Wonderful place with wonderful people
"This park is well maintained, with fantastic staff who just want to make your stay as wonderful as possible. The pool is an excellent size and there is a wide range of activities available suitable for all age ranges. (I have a 3yr old, and two 14yr old). The evening entertainment provides light relief for the adults. There are excellent facilities on site including a shop, fish and chip shop open every evening during high season, launderette and adventure playground. The park has direct access onto the beach which on the whole is clean. There is plenty to do round the area too, Newcastle, Whitley Bay, Ashington, and Morpeth are all within easy traveling distance. What also adds to the area is that parking is extremely cheap, sometimes even free. Word to the wise beware, of parking charges in Newcastle, when we go next time we will most likely take the Metro. I will look forward to the next time we visit this site!"

"We arrived with some trepidation after reading previous reviews and as it turned out we wished we hadnt bothered. We arrived at 2pm and was told checkin was 4pm.. fair enough.. so went onto the nearby beach which wasnt very impressive.. We then went into the Asda in Ashington to get some supplies and arrived back to checkin around 4.30pm to be told our van STILL wasnt ready.. We decided to go and look anyway and found the door unlocked..The van was still dirty from the previous occupants.. someone had tipped sugarpuffs down the toilet and the seat was covered in.. well i'd rather not think about that. In the meantime two cleaners turned up so we had to kick our heels walking around the site while they did their job... Finally got into the van around 5.15pm. The van didnt look too bad ..very basic but reasonable, After I'd gone around cleaning everywhere again and sterlising cups and cutlery etc we realised there was no hot water! ( I'd boiled the kettle)
Notified someone and soon a pleasant man turned up to look at the boiler which he stated had a fault and that another man would have to look tomorrow and parts would have to be ordered.. I wasnt happy about this so went to reception to see about having another van and was told by the very pleasant sales manager there were none available but we were welcome to use the touring caravans showerblock.. Erm no thanks.. At this point i'd had enough and said we'd leave if we got a complete refund which she readily agreed to....The staff that we dealt with were all very pleasant and helpful but that is the only positive thing i can think of to say.. It will a very very long time until i decide to have another caravan holiday!"

"As a holiday maker i can say ive found no faults in this brilliant site. There is plenty to do there and if you dont want to stay on the site you can have a stroll down the near by village. Staying on site is also very good, you can play sports in their outdoor football and basketball pitch, the teamstars normally play games with the younger children in the smaller club during the day so the adults can sit back and relax,or even join in.The swimming pool is very clean and the lifeguards are friendly and very very helpfull. Their is a near by beach too. The night-life in the club is outstanding they have adult entertainment, bingo and the childrens activitys. The teamstars and bar staff are very friendly and are always happy to help. My family enjoyed it coming to this site and would like to come again. i would personally reccomend that people tried out this site for theirselves and experience a brilliant time. "

Brilliant Break had by all!!
"We have just returned from Sandy Bay having stayed for the Easter Weekend. We stayed on the touring pitch (4 Adults, 2 Children and a dog) and we have had a fantastic time. When we arrived we checked in at reception (staff were all friendly and helpful) who told us to go down to the touring site where we could just pick our own pitch. We picked a pitch which was on the outside of the field and the sizes were very generous. (We spoke to a couple of regulars and they said that the pitches on the side did not flood when raining but the middle pitches do, though it did not rain when we were there so I cannot comment personally). I must say that the pitches in the middle could have been organised better and they were quite close together. The toilets and shower facilities were clean and were cleaned on a regular basis. You are given 2 keys for the facilities as they are locked on a night. There is only 2 showers for both men and women and there was sometimes a queue later on in the morning. The pool was clean and the lifeguards were friendly as were the funsters who entertained the kids during the day and night. I can not comment on the food as we did not eat at the Boathouse, although it did look ok. The beach was also lovely, although you do have to go over some rocks to get to it! We have often gone to Haven and I found the staff and facilities a lot better then some of the Haven sites we have visited. We can't wait to go back!!"

Kids will love it
"I thought I had made a big mistake when I read the reviews AFTER booking...however thankfully I breathed a sigh of relief when I arrived. The park looked clean and was in a good spot, right next to a lovely beach (ok its not like you would see abroad or anything but it was clean and easy to get to)
Reception was basic, staff were friendly and attentive. We got our keys and nervously went to find our caravan. Wow it was lovely, im not sure how this happened (I didnt ask obviously!)but we booked a Bronze and ended up with what I assumed to be a Silver, very clean, spacious with an en-suite. Fully equipped with lots of storage. Only 5 channels on the portable TV, however it takes DVD's if you want to bring your own films.
Ok, there is an all day entertainment programme which runs from the club house for the kids, however thats not really our bag as we like to get out and about. I recommend Alnwick Castle (£32 for family of 4) and the Life Science Centre, (£9.95, kids are free with Park Resort token) both a little drive away but well worth it.
Eve entertainment is usually cabaret, karaoke and silly songs and dancing for the kids. The bar prices were very reasonable and the bar staff friendly. Amusement Arcade was small and housed mainly bandits, not good for 5 and 8 yr olds so they spent most on Air Slammers and Two penny falls. Oh and watch out for bubble guns, they are everywhere. If you cant beat em join em, get the kids one from behind the bar for a fiver, they are ace and you wont hear a peep out of em until the bubbles run out!!
We didnt get to use the pool so cant comment on that.
The on site shop was expensive, I recommend you bring a few bits with you, salt, sauces, brewing up stuff, cooking oil etc and then go to the Asda in Ashington.
Overall it was great value for money was a memorable holiday for the right reasons.
