Rude Staff - Ambivalent Manager
"I booked this hotel for the location. It is well placed for accessing all that York Center has to offer. On arrival, my husband asked if he could park in the garage and the receptionist agreed and opened the gates. When we returned that evening, we saw a note on the lift door asking for the owners of our car to report to reception, We were then told that we were illegally parked and had to move it. The staff would not accept that their team member had made a mistake and we were repeatedly told that our actions were illegal!. I complained to the hotel and the manager investigated. We received an apology and a promise that the staff would receive training and that was the end of the matter. It certainly isn't the end. We spent £440 for the weekend and were treated like common criminals. "

shame about the staff
"First impressions are everything and they failed at the door, the staff was the most miserable we have ever came across. It seemed it was ingrained in the staff as it was all 3 we spoke to. When we asked about the hotel restaurant the miserable response we received meant we eat out. (at a very nice place) To be fare the room was good and the view from our 3rd floor room over looking the river was very pleasant, such a shame it was soured by poor staff. You should find out where you can park should you go. "

The Queen's hotel in York is situated cl...
"The Queen's hotel in York is situated close to the city centre on the banks of the river Ouse. The hotel claims to be within easy distance of the train station, so arriving by train we chose to walk into the less than clearly signed city centre. Luckily enough it's fairly straight forward and we managed to reach the hotel within about an hour â and that included a lengthy stop for dinner and drinks. The hotel is situated in a quiet off street with the main city centre being a short walk away. Arriving at the hotel the main entrance is actually found at the site of the hotel and not that obvious. Immediately inside the door is a small set of steps, but wheelchair users have a self service wheelchair lift to accommodate the steps. The reception looks grander on the hotel web site than in real life, but staff were friendly and willing to help. A small lift which is big enough to accommodate a wheelchair will take you to the level of your room â ours was level 2. Entering the room I was wholly surprised by the standard the room was spacious, very clean, and the refreshment tray was more than adequate (unlike other hotels I have been in). Meal times in the Queens are delicious, and simply couldn't be faulted. Breakfast is buffet style but dinner is table service (booking through super break the hotel only offered B,B,EM). Obviously all drinks with meals have to be paid for separately, although a few people when we stayed didn't realise this and ordered drinks without knowing â it isn't made clear. York itself is a wonderful city with plenty of historic value and while I am in a wheelchair â I can walk small distances, but anyone in a wheelchair permanently may find the cobbles a little hard to swallow. The hotel has a nice little bar with views (and small balconies) looking over the river, it was nice and quiet at the time of our visit â and drink prices are reasonable. So overall the hotel is spotlessly clean, the room was spacious and again very clean, and the food was delicious and hot! Highly recommended."

couldn't be better
"we stayed at this hotel for a few days from 26th october 05 and really couldn't fault the hotel, the spacious bedrooms or the staff. As we had booked at the last minute and were told we would be in the last room...which was a smoking room we were slightly worried about what we might get.....but glad to report this was unfounded. The room was spotless, smelled fresh, cleaned everyday with fresh bedlinen and towels. We found this hotel to be remarkable value for money as it couldn't be situated any better, right on the river and 1 minute walk to the lively town centre, cannot understand how anyone could give this hotel a bad review. An excellent choice and we will return in the summer."

"The entrance to the hotel and the reception staff are not welcoming. The main entrance looks like a side entrance and the staff are very brusque. The decor is gloomy and dingy. The breakfast is self service and they kept running out of various items of food. We had to queue up for toast and the staff seemed harrassed, hot and bothered - the chef complaining loudly how he "hated breakfasts" and "never wanted to be a chef..." All through our breakfast the radio was playing in the background with inane chat and raucous music. The door to our bathroom did not close properly. Apart from all that - our bed was very comfortable, the view was excellent, it was not too noisy and the position of the hotel is perfect."

Great Hotel, Great Location
"We booked to stay for our wedding anniversary. The staff were very helpful and could not be faulted. The room was clean and bright with a great river view. The hotel seemed busy at breakfast but there were plenty of staff to clear tables and seat guests and a good selection of food. The parking was limited but again we had no problem as we had prebooked. We could not fault the room, location or staff from reception to cleaning and our requests for parking, river view and wine were met. We will definitely stay there again."

Good rooms / good service
"4 double rooms were found for us at very late notice ( we rang the day before !). We were staying only for one night but the staff were as courteous and helpful as if we had been staying a month. The rooms were spotlessly clean. Breakfast was good. Definitely would stay there again - good value for money"

"We stayed here after reading other Trip Advisor reviews, and agree with most of them. The hotel is really central, and right by the river with nice views. The staff were friendly, and breakfast was good. Although the room was nice, we wished we'd asked for a river view as there was no view at the back. We'd asked for a quiet room though, and it was really quiet. This hotel is ideal for shopping/sightseeing/socialising trips."

Great view - with one eye, ouch!
"We got a cheap deal for a spacious room overlooking the River Ouse. Good points...in no particular order 1. Good value 2. Nice bath and powerful shower 3. Clean 4. Great central location, and despite this.. 5. Quiet ~ so good night's sleep. 6.Friendly 7. Nice view. Bad Points 1. Seriously injured eye while in bed... turned over in sleep and got the bedside table's pointy corner in eye. Not good design.. and certainly a health and safety issue. Beware. 2. Parking expensive and limited. 3. Decor bland in sort of Travel Lodge style. However... As long as you avoid pointy corners.. this hotel is good, clean and comfortable in a perfect location."

Great location , nice river views
"Mt husband and I stayed here for 2 nights Aug 05. The hotel is less than 10 mins walk from the train station. We had asked for a river view room on a high floor and that is exactly what we got - you get great views of the river and geese/ducks who sit near the hotel were a bouns too! The king size bed was comfy enough , but a little on the soft side for us. There are tea/coffee making facilities and a small portable tv showing uk terrestrial channels. The only let down was the shower which could have done with a bit of a pressure boost. Sometimes it was like standing in the rain outside! Temperature of the water also varies when other guests in adjoining rooms run a tap etc. We always went outside for something to eat so never had breakfast/meals in the hotel. All in all it's a good hotel , but it's probably the location which is worth paying for."

Very pleasant stay
"We spent two nights here in Feb. 2005 and really enjoyed the excellent location, right along the river's edge and close to town center. Wonderful place for walking to the sights nearby. The breakfast was very nice each morning and the staff were quite friendly and helpful. We would definitely come here again."

"Hotel was very pleasant, rooms overlooking the river provide a wonderful view. Recieved a warm welcome at Reception with a quick and easy check-in. Breakfast and Evening Meals were all very nice and all staff were efficient and friendly. The hotel was great value for money, and being so close to the city centre it is perfect for any stay. Car Parking is slightly expensive but it is convenient, although not much space for such a big hotel. Overall a wonderful stay, which I would recommend to everyone."
