A lovely hotel, we would go back!
"We spent two days here and had a lovely weekend. The weather was atrocious but it didn't spoil our time in York as there is always something to do anyway. We had booked B & B at the Alhambra, and our en-suite room was fine and we found the staff very friendly and informative..The breakfasts are excellent and you can always ask for something to suit yourself if you need to, it is not a problem. Because of the poor weather we ate at the hotel both nights that we were there AND the food was excellent. everything we had was DELICIOUS, a chef, not a cook!"

Close to City but in peaceful surroundings
"stayed for a 3 night break. Our room was a large twin bedded room with equally large bathroom - only thing missing in bathroom was a hook to hang clothes/dressing gown on whilst having a shower. Both lounges and garden and delightful. We ate in the restaurant on the first night. The food was very good indeed. The only downside was that most dishes were prepared with cream - and if you cannot eat or do not like cream then the choice was very limited. We had a bottle of white wine which came up slightly chilled, so asked for an ice bucket, only to be told "we have run out of ice" - how strange.
Breakfasts are good, great choice for cooked. Ample choice of cereals too.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel for its location and close proximity to the city centre. Walking to the Minster takes no more than 10 minutes. Walking via Museum Gardens also another way into the city centre. I would go back to this hotel again."

Good value; excellent for short weekend break
"My husband and I stayed at the Alhambra for a weekend break at the start of March and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
The hotel is a family-run establishment which means personal attention, friendly and professional service and good attention to detail. Our room was a good size with a four poster bed and good facilities such as tea and coffee making equipment. The bathroom was large with good sized tub and very controllable power shower (just the order of the day after lots of walking around and visiting the many attractions that York has to offer).
Breakfast is served in the downstairs dining area and incorporates a good choice for all tastes. The waiting staff in particular are very good - courteous, professional but friendly at all times.
All in all, we would heartily recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a central base (only 10 mins walk to the Minster) for a short break."

"After an unfortunate start to our stay in York and having to escape from another establishment, we found ourselves ouside the Alhambra on the busiest weekend of the year.
The Staff were outstanding, helpful and accomodating. The hotel itself is beautiful, clean and with a couple of minutes walk to the walls. the rooms were clean, warm and comfortable. The breakfast was great and the waiting staff were brilliant! We will be booking here again in the near future and would recommend it to anyone"

Beautiful English Residence
"We stayed at the Alhambra Court Hotel in York for 5 nights. We arrived in York on the Tuesday, not realising that it was the Bank holiday that coming weekend - panic..!! A visit to the York Tourist Centre provided us with accommodation available for the period of time we required. Even though the Alhambra was rated as a 2 star accommodation, we chose it over other properties and it was the best decision we could have made.
Forget the star rating (which apparently is because the Alhambra does not have an all night reception), but is still open until approximately 11.00pm, this hotel is a little gem. Ideally located, we could walk down to the centre of York's shopping, attractions and pubs.
We looked forward to our breakfasts every morning in the dining room, with delicious food and English table service.
Our room was clean, comfortable and roomy and very English.
What can we say about the staff - wow. We have never been anywhere where staff have been so friendly, helpful and just nice. The lovely ladies at the reception desk, always willing to offer additional information about the area and helpful hints. No question was too big....!!
The hotel had a lift, offered a laundry service and would hold documents for safe keeping. The reasonable tariff per night, included that lovely English breakfast. Private car parking at the rear of the hotel, an added bonus.
We are planning to return to York in 2 years and wouldn't even consider any other property than the Alhambra, in which to stay."

Clean, Comfortable, good service and location
"We stayed 2 nights over our bank holiday weekend. The room (26) was clean and furnished in a style appropriate to the property, complete with a good bathroom, small TV (with text), tea/coffeee making. The bed was a small double which was as large as could fit in the room. All as it should should be. Certainly nothing to complain about but nothing special either.
All the staff were exceptionally helpful. At breakfast they were very efficient and worked hard to make thing run smoothly. Breakfast was basic but freshly cooked. On our second evening we arrived to find no space in the car park (it is quite large but probably not sufficient if the hotel is full and everyone has come by car). The receptionist immediately offered to move her smaller vehicle so that we could get in.
Although it is a no smoking establishment, we found a distinct smell of smoke comig from the room next to ours wafting into the hallway that served our room. Without our saying anything, shortly afterwards, there was a note on the door to the room about smoking demonstrating that the management were doing their job well.
The location was good with an easy walk into town.
We'd be happy to stay there again. Prices everywhere now seem very high and I think we are all being taken for a bit of a ride but relatively, the Alhambra weren't chargiung any more than the alternatives."

Not worth the money
"Stayed at the Alhambra court for one night, in April. We chose this hotel as many others were fully booked or had a 2 night minimum stay. Arrived at midday, and were allowed to check in early. Stayed in room 17 on 2nd floor. Room was ok, although compared to other hotels in york for the same price (£85 for one night), it was not great. The hotel itself is in a nice area close to the minster, walking distance to everything, but could have been closer. Free parking was a bonus, however after a walk into the City, we got back to our room to find the heating wasn't working and was freezing cold. They had no other rooms available, however they brought up a portable heater which soon took the chill off, but made the room rather uncomfortable. Breakfast was average, choice of cereals and a cooked english breakfast, but if you are expecting good yorkshire fayre (black pudding etc.) you will be dissappointed. York itself is nice, but I would recommend finding a slightly better hotel closer to the centre, just need to book well in advance!"

Very nice stay
"Absolutely quiet road in short distance to the minster. No noise from the nearby railway line because it runs through a tunnel there. Single room in good condition, really pretty, clean and not too small. Appropriate cupboard space for a week's stay. Nice bathroom. Window in room could be opened wide. Very friendly staff. Two stylish period sitting-rooms with comfortable sofas, TV and magazines.
Good breakfast. Appropriate parkingspace behind the house. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to tour the town's very many objects of interest and nice shops on foot."

Avoid extortionate parking charges
"Free parking within ten minutes easy walking of York City Centre ... either alongside the River Ouse or through the Museum Gardens (daytime only). A pleasant and peaceful bed and breakfast which provided us with a requested three-bedded room. Plenty of hot water for baths, comfortable beds and ample storage space. The breakfast was rather ordinary and there was a problem with poaching eggs properly. An excellent location for the best of York. I used to live here many years ago (same street actually) and because of extensive pedestrianisation I believe York is a rare example of an English city centre which has improved over the years. Don't bother with the rip-off river trips. It is much better to stroll south along the riverside, cross by the new footbridge and walk back up the other side. The best pub in the city centre is the Golden Lion. Bar meals until 9pm and Theakston's Old Peculier on tap."

A pleasant place.
"My husband and I stayed 2 nights here on our 2-week driving tour of England. It was well situated, being close to the city center and sights. They also had private parking, which was nice. The staff was very courteous. The room was a pretty good size with a wardrobe and two chairs as well as tea/coffee making service. The bed was not comfortable, however, but of the 7 B&B's we stayed in (all in a similar price category), we found this to be a commonn problem. We also found it to be a bit noisy with the window open at night because our room faced the parking lot.
Breakfast was served in a nice dining room and was very good (we went earlier the following morning as the busy time seemed a bit hectic). We also had dinner there which was actually very good and reasonably priced."

Delighted - would definitely return
"Two friends and I stayed one night at this hotel at the start of a short touring break in North Yorkshire. We all left with very positive views about the Alhambra Court. The choice was made partly on the previous reviews on this website, together with its convenient location and facilities for the price. The booking was made by phone, which was dealt with courteously and efficiently and followed up by a written confirmation from the hotel, enclosing their brochure. We arrived shortly before 8 p.m., the last orders time for dinner in the restaurant, and were allowed a few extra minutes to settle into our rooms to cater for this. Explaining also that we needed to leave before 8.00 a.m., the normal time for the start of breakfast service, we were immediately offered a full breakfast at 7.30 a.m., providing we stated our choices the night before, or a breakfast tray in our rooms overnight. We chose the early full breakfast, which was served promptly, enabling us to leave in good time. The food was of good quality, the restaurant and bar pleasant, and all service efficient and friendly. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The hotel is in a quiet side street. Given the location and facilities provided for the rates charged, the next time I am looking for a room in York, I will try the Alhambra Court first, and would definitely recommend it to people looking for comfortable, quiet, unpretentious, good value accommodation."
