enjoyable, comfortable stay
"Staff excellent, nothing to much trouble. Location good, lift down to beach just across the road, sea view from front of hotel. Room clean and comfortable, tea/coffee/milk provided in room was always replenished and there was plenty for the day. Access to swimming pool was all day small but lovely temp. (was in the middle of be refurbished but still good and clean) food was hot and plenty of it we were on a table of 7 and we had plenty to go around, no trouble to mix and match if you wanted cream instead of custard etc. only downside to food if is a downside was tinned potatoes/grapefruit and the trifle was made with tinned fruit, yet the fruit salad was fresh and delicious. But we didn't have to prepare it and there was no shortage of food so I can live with the tinned part. There was entertainment but we went for a weekend so don't know if entertainment provided at weekends only but was very good."

Absolutely spot on
"I was looking for somewhere to spend a week with the family in Yorkshire and after a time surveying what was on offer bearing in mind I have two children aged 5 and 8 I chose the red lea more for its location as I tend not to make my own decisions on places and people until I have experienced them personally , well I was surprised and very happy that in my mind I got such a bargain. The building was great and you have to remember with a building of this age there will always be something a bit knocked banged or twisted so in my mind it was warm , comfortable and looked after to a very high standard. It was a very clean and tidy hotel and to say it was run well is an understatement, the staff are very well turned out and absolutely nothing was a problem for them . They all wore smiles and were always willing to help out no matter what , they were obviously happy with there work and it showed .the food was spot on , very well prepared and a good menu everyday so my praise to the chief , the waiting staff were great and they always had time to have a laugh with my kids and make them feel special so thank you. So a 10 out of 10 from us and a big thank you for the red lea for a great holiday and we shall see you again soon. "

A great hotel
"We stayed at the Red Lea in early July and really enjoyed ourselves. The rooms are traditional and comfy. The pool although small is excellent, the food id good English fare as I like it. The staff were all helpful at all times. We liked it so much we went again for the Scarborough cricket festival in August. We are looking forward to our next trip soon and hope that the Spa is all in working order again. One tip, buy a weekly ticket for the chair lift , it soon pays for itself. "

a good weekend
"my wife & i went on a works reunion there were 120 in the party. The staff were absolutly fab there was nothing that was to much trouble for them.Meals were served fast & efficiantly.Bar prices were not to high(£5-50p for 1pt of beer& whiskey & lemonade).the decour in the public rooms was superb but our bedroom was in urgent need of a revamp, outdated bathroom with no shower & severly worn carpets. No iron, hair dryer or biscuits in welcoming try. We would go back but not in the room we were in."

Excellent freindly staff
"We recently stayed with our 11 month twins and were extremely impressed with how helpful and caring all the staff in the hotel were. Our room was lovely with a sea view and the travel cots provided were in very good condition and obviously comfortable as babies slept great in them!!! High chairs were provided in the dining room at our table and were there whenever we needed them!! Parking was very easy with lots of spaces right at the door and the swimming pool has a great shallow end for small people!!! All the guests during our stay were very friendly too!! Great time had by all would definatley recommend!!"

"It is good to see that the hotel is being refurbished, especially the bathrooms, but still a long way to go! Family rooms rather small! House keeping still needs improving; drawers not clean; table tops anfd furniture need a wash. Staff excellent; nothing a bother to them. Good breakfasts. Hope improvement in accommodation continues."

Old Peoples Care Home
"Having read the reviews, we still went ahead and booked. Outside hotel looks ok, but inside it is deary, reminded me of a Care Home I looked at once for my parent. Would not stop at Red Lea ever again in fact would not visit Scarborough again, too much like Blackpool in parts. Also in my opinion the hotel is over priced."

great stay at The Red Lea
"We stayed over Easter at the Hotel .Found the staff fantastic especially Maria on reception nothing was to much trouble for her. The room (208) was a family room with bay window were we relaxed overlooking the sea the room itself was great only fault was the small bathroom with carpet on the floor and plastic glasses needs a full refurbishment !! Stayed half board food was tasty and filling not cordon blu but o k the position of the hotel is perfect for town, beach, and the cliff lift to take you down (and UP) to the beach no evening entertainment don't know if that's good or bad the staff made up for the short falls"

warm and welcoming
"We recently had an overnight stay at the Red Lea whilst visiting family in the area. The hotel was a little gem: warm and welcoming, the staff were friendly but not too personal. I had expected a dated and worn room but was really surprised when entering out allocated room (308), found it to be of a standard equal to any 3 star hotel and even some 4 stars. (we do travel regularly). The decor was obviously new but very smart, we had a large double bed and a big bay window with amazing views over the sea. The public areas were warm (bitterly cold outside) and on our day of departure we had a lovely breakfast with as much tea and toast as we could manage. I would encourage anyone visiting Scarborough to give the Red Lea a call. If they are full and cannot accommodate you, call in and see them when your in the area: the standard of the accommodation and the proportion of the bedrooms is very impressive."

Good location resonably priced.
"A very good location near Spa Complex and quite good free street parking. A bit old fashioned but comfortable. The hotel seems to be going through a period of refurbishment. Our room (112) had been completely renewed. Bathroom, bed, decor, furnishing, flat screen TV. We had a good view over the front of the hotel. We paid £90 per night for a double room with breakfast. Dinner was £13 per person extra and quite adequate though by no means cordon bleu."
