5 day break . Travel with Shearings
"Just back from 5 day break. Travelled with Shearings. Roger the driver was a very good host all the time. Hotel was fine, clean and comfortable, ok needs a lick of paint and updating. Our room was clean and facilities ok, shower was great, large and always plenty of hot water. Food was ok, maybe bit hotter would be only complaint to say. Entertainment was fine, music quizzes, bingo, comedy. Staff were good, although was one duty manager that could do with retraining on people skills. He needs to back up and help his staff (bar) when needed with a smile not a frown. All in all had good time. "

"Seemed to be recently refurbished, nothing to complain about. Staff wonderful and helpful, food good, entertainment dreadful except Dave Davis. A little bit high up so no good unless you are a walker as no buses run up there. Wonderful views."

Value for money?
"Our holiday was all inclusive. The staff were at all times helpful but were let down by the system of paring down everything to what appeared to be the bare minimum. Food was of school meal standard and often lukewarm. The entertainment had to be endured rather than enjoyed as there was no alternative lounge for those who didn't wish to play Bingo or take part in old time dancing. The cabaret was patchy. The room had basic tea and coffee facilities, but biscuits were absent and the only toiletries were a small bar of soap each. There was no telephone link to Reception in the room. The Foyer and the corridors were all in need of redecoration, although it was stated that this was ongoing there was no evidence of it being so in the Hotel. The Shearings buses are of a high standard, it's a pity the hotel did not match this. Perhaps more should be spent on the hotels and less on the buses"

terrible entertainer spoilt our break
"Good location ,food average ,room very average, all things we can cope with at the price we paid. However the 'entertainer', Dave was so up himself it was unbelievable. On a coach holiday of this kind you expect at least average entertainment on an evening, we were served a pathetic round of age old jokes ,kareoke standard singing , It was like watching a showroom dummy with a cassette player stuck in his back....low budget rubbish."

"This ranked as one of the best Christmas breaks we have had . Our bedroom was recently refurbished with new furniture ,carpet and soft furnishings . A lovely sea view from a big window, a basket of fruit, chocolates and small bottles of whiskey ----- a lovely festive array! Entertainment was first class throughout the 5 days , with Dave in charge everything went really well as he gives well over 100%. All the staff from the Manager down , were so friendly and helpful all of our stay ------- they could give lessons to many other hotels we've stayed at previously The food was good and varied but my one grumble would be that it went cold before we really started on it .That could have been because the plates weren't hot to start with, and our table was on the far side near the windows in the conservatory where it was a bit chilly ! All in all, though,it was a splendid break."

Great New Year Break
"My Husband and I were looking for a hotel in Scarborough to take his parents away for New Year. We didn't want anything too formal but the hotel had to cater for diabetics and limited mobility - the Norbreck ticked all the boxes! Having booked through Shearings I wasn't sure what to expect but reckoned my hubby and I would be the youngest there (37 & 43). From the minute we arrived the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious, spotless and had a fruit bowl with chocolates and 2 minatures of whisky - not sure if that was just because it was New Year. There is a lift to all floors and although there are 3 steps up to the dining room, there is a stair lift. I was pleasantly surprised by the menu choice - very varied and portion sizes were good. The waiting staff were excellent and joined in the banter with the guests. The function suite looks like it has been freshly decorated and there is a very comfortable lounge area with sofas. Each night the entertainment was provided by Dave Davies and Co. Again I was surprised how much I enjoyed it and he really got the audience to participate. On New Years Eve the place was beautifully decorated and the staff joined in the celebrations. I think we were the last to go to bed that night! My only gripe, and this is purely personal - is that the breakfast is from 8am-9am every morning. Just a bit early for me and would have liked the option of breakfast until 10am. Overall it was a great 4 days, even my sister-in-law who is in her 40's enjoyed it. The in-laws go away every New Year and said this was the best one by far. If you were looking to take older members of the family away then this is the place to go."

"Stayed at this hotel for 5 days on a Shearings coach holiday. The room was excellent. The food was good, although I am fussy, but the wife loved it. The staff and the entertainment were excellent. Fantastic views from our bedroom window, although sea views can be had from every room. The only bad thing was the wind, with it being high up the wind was intense."

peaceful and good entertainment at the norbreck hotel
"We have just spent 6 days at the norbreck hotel, the room was cosey and clean ,bathroom with bath and shower and constant hot water. The food was excellent many choices of menu and the staff very helpfull and plesent . The views from the hotel are beautiful ,looking out at both north and south bay . the hotel is high up on north bay with winding roads down to the sea front . The evening we had great enterainment with the great DAVE DAVIS & CO , plenty of laughs and loads to listen to comdey, music , quizes and of course bingo and dancing. the cost was the best in scarborough we will be going again in the near future thanks to the staff at the norbreck from the waters"

Good Value at the Norbreck
"You cannot fail to have a sea view at the Norbreck Hotel as it is the only hotel that overlooks both bays. The hotel is owned by WA Shearings and is geared for their Coach & Self Drive Holidays usually of 3 or 4 nights duration. The food is more than adequate. The room and bathroom were clean and well maintained. The lift is a bit small and old. There is entertainment every night but is not everyones cup of tea. But overall 3 nights Dinner Bed & Breakfast for £99 is good value."
