Good old fashioned place
"It's great sometimes to just remind ourselves of the definition of the word "hotel". If you wanted to, you could find fault with anywhere you choose to stay, but this place gives you old fashioned graft to keep the punters happy from the outset. All staff in hotel uniform and glad to oblige, and being a Victorian sea side hostelry, you get creaking floorboards, dark furniture, lots of corridors that wind their way here and there, steep stairs and the feeling that Vincent Price could turn up serving behind one of the bars at any given moment. But I defy anyone to find anything bad to say about this old gaff. Sure it could do with a makeover, but that would take all of the character away. The food is better here than a lot of more expensive hotels, and all of the staff I spoke to were natives from the local area ( am I allowed to say that ? ) So if you want good food , comfy beds , bars open 'til late and dated decor you could do much worse."

"Having booked a short stay of five nights we found the staff very helpful and pleasant. The room was clean and very comfortable and the food in the restaurant exellent. Unfortunately the hotel was being used by oil/gas rig workers on the second and third nights of our stay. We decided to leave early and found the owner most understanding."

charming even off season
"Recommended and booked for us by our business contact in Great Yarmouth (similar to Galveston, Texas - but lovely sandy beaches). Staff was extremely helpful with transportation, entertainment suggestions, willing to help in every way. Rooms were clean, phone service superior, breakfast excellent. Restaurant is as good as advertised. Very old hotel, well maintained with modern bath facilities. (Think "Fawlty Towers" without the glitches) Right across the road from the beach. A delight.
Easy strol to downtown even with a bum knee."

"Very friendly service throughout our stay. The food was excellent, exceeding expectations, and there was a good choice of wines. we would definately stay here again as I found it good value for money, with high standards throughout."

"Stayed at the Imperial for a weekend break and really could not complain. We had booked a double deluxe room but on arriving found the room to be a twin, but reception moved us to a double standard room and to be honest I do no think the deluxe rooms are worth the extra money.
The rooms are a trifle on the small side but are clean and well serviced.
We ate at the restaurant both nights and found the food to be very good if not a bit expensive (compared to eating out at home) and the menu did not change that much but as we were only there for 2 nights this was not a problem. The reason for eating at the restaurant was that they could cater for a gluten-free diet although I have some doubts on their understanding of cross-contamination.
Breakfast was good and was totally table served - no buffet.
The position right by the beach was great and it is only a short walk to the bars and restaurants in Great Yarmouth."

"We have just returned from a weekend break in Great Yarmouth where we stayed at The Imperial. We thought it was excellent value for the money (£180 for the two of us, for bed and breakfast for 2 nights). The room was fairly small, but clean. We had tea and coffee making facilities, tv, trouser press, and the bathroom was stocked with toiletries. We had a lovely sea view at a quieter end of the sea front, and were able to park our car right in front of the hotel under our window. The breakfast was excellent, and we found all the staff to be pleasant and helpful. We will certainly return to The Imperial."

Ok if you get the right room and don't mind paper walls.
"We stayed in the Imperial hotel for 3 nights in July 05. We were not at all impressed with the first room we stayed in (rm 358). It smelt horrible (dampish), was small and badly laid out, the bathroom was really badly smelly. It was definately not a 3 star room and was not big enough for a couple to stay in. The only plug was badly placed, so we had to use the kettle in the wadrobe (where the trouser press plugged in)!
We moved next morning to rm 359. This was bigger and nicer and cleaner. The room was a lot quieter (from outside noise) - the double glazing seemed to work in this room. However in the night we were woken many times by people talking in their rooms on either side - the walls are really thin.
Plus points are - nice breakfast, cctv in the car park, sea front location, within walking distance to town.
Other negatives - blankets instead of quilts, really dated decor, bedspreads looked like they haven't been washed for ages, we had no hot water one morning. The hotel is very expensive for what it is. We paid £220 for three nights and its not worth that much money.
We would not stay there again."

Lovely seafront hotel but a bit pricey!
"We stayed here in April '04 and rang them again this year to stay again, however their prices had increased greatly and were very expensive so needless to say we haven't gone back there. Don't get me wrong it's clean and the breakfasts were lovely, but the "older" style furnishings were basic and do not warrant the extortionate rates they are now charging! We are staying elsewhere on the Seafront in Great Yarmouth and will let you know how it goes!"
