Do not trust
"Booked the 5 day (4 night) stay for the ist week in June ,back last February, agreed on a price for bed and breakfast, they conveniently didn't send confirmation so i had to ring to make sure of booking. It was a treat for my 92 year old mother. when we came to check out, they charged us for the breakfasts, I argued that the price negotiated included breakfast but they 'conveniently' had the booking as 'room only', no manager available, so I reluctantly paid, being assured that my protest would be looked into, I don't expect to hear from them. In my opinion, they are unprofessional con artists, and I won't be using them again. "

"Total TOTAL RANCID hotel with RANCID staff and RANCID food. We were charged approx £80.00 for a meal we ALL complained about. They said, 'Sorry you have to write in!!!!' Do you belive it, there was no 'how is your meal Sir?' We complained nicely then it turned into a big argument. They would not offer us any thing else or a refund and as we had to pay before they gave us the food we could not get our money back. The food was cold, uncooked and actually had a hair in one of the meals! I suggest you go to the Royal Clifton, its beautiful, great service and lovely staff! AVOID THIS HOTEL LIKE THE PLAGUE. On the main road and you can hear all the drunks singing from approx 10.30pm - 5am non stop.. we were there to play golf not listen to X factor rejects! Noise - bad food - awful rude staff.. how they are in business I dont know! Review bold hotel southport lord street"

"Booked in fine without any problems - rooms were of a good standard and the breakfast next day was lovely. The only issue I had was that Southports Lord Street can get a bit noisy in the small hours when the nightclubs are kicking out and this disturbed my sleep. Either avoid the front rooms or don't go on a friday or Staurday if you're a light sleeper. Overall though I'd recommend this place if visiting Southport!"

Squeaky Family Hotel
"We found it hard to find many hotels with parking in Southend and darted in to The Bold Hotel when we spied a place in the small car park at the back. £55 got us a double room with a view to the front onto the activity along the main street below. The rooms are above a pub/restaurant in a creaky old building - there was a dehumidifier on the landing but the room didn't feel damp and the decor, after the initial shock of swirly green leaves on a cream background, was actually quite nice with William Morris style beadspread and curtains. The en-suite had a shower only, but it was clean and functional. We found it a bit of a novelty to have to get up and change channels on the TV but it was helpfully situated not far from the bed which meant leaning over to switch it off wasn't too much trouble!!! Breakfast was served in the restaurant off the pub downstairs which has fresher (pale green) decor than the rest of the establishment and there was a reasonable choice. We had the standard English breakfast which was perfectly adequate but you could upgrade to deluxe versions for extra charges. All the staff we encountered were friendly and efficient and all in all we felt we could have done a lot worse for the money! Undoubtedly, The Bold has lost a bit of its shine over the years, but a clean room, good staff and a decent room rate count for a lot these days and it can at least claim all three of these attributes."
