"We arrived at the Wallace Hotel and immediately got a lecture from the hotel owner Agnes. There was no 'did you have a nice journey' etc, it was straight in with how much damage had been caused in the past and that we couldn’t eat/drink in our room. We were told to pay an extra £20 bond each over and above what we had paid for our room; this was not mentioned prior to our arrival. We would only get our £20 back if our room was deemed to be in the correct condition upon leaving. We were all also told to leave any alcohol we had brought with us behind the bar as we couldn’t drink our OWN in the room but we could buy alcohol from their bar to consume upstairs!! On questioning the stupidity of this we were asked ' would you go to a cafe and take your own food?’ Obviously not, but we weren’t planning on drinking alcohol in their bar, just in our room like we would have done at home. We were also informed that breakfast would be served between 9.00am and 9.30am not one minute later or we wouldn’t be served. We informed Agnes at that point that we wouldn’t be down for breakfast. It felt like we were being spoken to like naughty wee kids. We had arrived in high spirits and were really excited about our holiday but she brought us back down to earth with a bump. Did not feel made welcome at all.

The room was nice enough, clean tidy and a nice size except that there was no sign of an en-suite which we had asked for upon booking. A couple of members of our group went back to Agnes to enquire about the en-suite but basically got told that we hadn’t asked for en-suite and if we had a problem the person who had booked hotel should be the one to enquire. We were told that en-suite would be available but that would mean our group having too split up and be on separate floors which isn’t what we wanted. She also started going on about how much money she had spent doing up the hotel etc. Completely irrelevant to us, like we cared, we were just there to have a good time.
We then had to all share one toilet/shower with everyone in our room along with everyone else on our floor that didn’t have en-suite. Not the most hygienic thing in the world.

Didn’t have breakfast as stated above, and also didn’t use their bar so cant comment on these things.

Upon leaving we rang the bell at the bar and waited in the lounge. Dave came through and informed us that he was having his breakfast so we would have to wait. Rather rude we thought when we were paying guests. Agnes eventually came through and took our keys. There was no 'hi' or 'did you have a nice sleep' etc. We waited and waited and waited for someone to come back to inform us that our room was in perfect condition. When Dave came back through we asked him if we could get our money and drinks back, his response our room hadn’t been checked yet. He then proceeded to demand to know why we didn’t have breakfast. We informed him that we said when we arrived that we wouldn’t be having breakfast. Anyway we paid for breakfast so it should have been irrelevant as to whether we ate or not. We eventually got our money and drink back but did not feel welcome their at all.

It seems apparent that this hotel doesn’t like groups of friends staying. And we felt like we were judged as soon as we stepped through their door. Never felt so uncomfortable staying anywhere in our life’s. Thankfully the rest of blackpoll treated us with respect and we had a great time out in Blackpool. Will definitely be back in Blackpool but will never ever set foot inside the Wallace Hotel ever again."

"Upon arrival, before getting the key's the group of us were given a lecture by the owner, Agnes, and told to each pay a £20 bond, which was not mentioned prior to our arrival. We were then told that all our rooms would be checked prior to us leaving to get the £20 back. It was like being at primary school with some nutty headmistress.

The rooms were adequate, some didn't have a bathroom, and even though ours did i would use the term bathroom in the remotest sense of the word.

At breakfast the following morning Agnes was going on about her liability insurance costing her a fortune and to be honest as a guest you don't want to hear it. Also, breakfast was served between 9 and 9.30 and we were told that we couldn't be a minute later or wouldn't be served.

Had a great time in Blackpool but would never go back to the Wallace Hotel. I'm a 54 year old woman and don't want to go away and be patronised like i was by some hotelier who could do with a few lessons in customer service."

"We decided to upsticks at 2pm from Glasgow on Saturday 27 June and head for Blackpool, first place we called was the Wallace hotel. Great info on phone, one room left and they kept it for us. On arrival we noticed it was our counterparts (Scots) that own and run the hotel.

Very friendly, place is spotless and that is rare in Blackpool. Couple are quite strict with some of the younger ones but you cant fault them on that when you se the place.

Bar is ok for starters and a nightcap, brekkie also very good. Hotel pets, charlie and wallace are great. Wallace the dalmation that eats ice, serious. Ask David to show you.

All in all we would def return to the Wallace and it is by far the cleanest place we have stayed in Blackpool and only £25 each BB at weekend.

If it is clean, honest accomodation you want with no advance rubbish about standards etc then this is the place and the hospitality is second to none.

You wont be disapointed!"
