not value for money
"the reviews i read for this hotel i felt were totaly missleading ,we all said it was well over priced for the accomadation we were given. i stopped in a twin room which wasnt big enough to swing a cat there wasnt even a wardrobe in the room just coat hangers . there was patched up woodchip wallpaper and a mirror which you had to stand on the bed to see yourself in this was seventy pounds a night b&b. my friend ended up paying forty five pouns for a tiny gallow room with a so called sea view the window was so small it was laughable the dinig room was down a very steap set of stairs wich were very awkward to get down breakfast consisted of tinned toms and mushrooms not great and a friend of mine for personal reasons couldnt make the saturday so we told them admitedly late in the day but without them telling me they took the fifty pounds of my mothers credit card which i thought was a bit harsh this hotel is well overpriced and i would advise anyone against staying there."

Fabulous friendly family run hotel
"Have just returned from a couple of nights in Blackpool at The Charlton. What can I say, Kim, Mark and Patrick are the perfect hosts, I work in the hospitality trade and will be taking some of their ideas back to work on Monday!!! Nothing was too much trouble and all the staff were more than friendly, remembering who u were, what u liked etc, that is proper service that many larger hotels with more stars etc need to remember. We can't wait to go back to The Charlton and hope that Paddy's hair grows back soonXXXXXXXXXXXXXXxx Take Care all Love Diane, Chris Sam, Ellie and Granny xxx"

A Great time had by All
"A Great time had by All In reply to the Bird of Glasgow, I would like to totally disagree with their comments completely as myself and wife were the next guests to stay in room 5 at the Charlton hotel for our wedding anniversary. On arrival Kim informed us that unfortunately that the previous guests in that room had been smoking against the entire rules for all hotels. She stated that the whole staff and she had worked hard to eliminate the smell of smoking and she offered to exchange room for us, but we decided not to as the room had been booked for three months previously. I personally think that it is great idea for guests to have their privacies and not be bothered every morning, so that the room is yours for the entire stay. You only after ask for anything you require e.g. tea, coffee, change of towels, bedding or iron and ironing board, all the staff were friendly and went out of their way to help in any way. We have stayed at this hotel on several occasions and found the food to be excellent this includes the breakfasts, the bar snacks and evening meals, they are all home cooked on the premises. I would like to tell all future guests to try the Tram sandwiches for a light bite. I myself had the steak pie on Friday and also the curry on Saturday and found them both excellent, so cannot understand the birdâs complaints. Also the entertainment was good by Mark, as you can choose what you require from playing guitar and singing, Karaoke or Quiz nights and personally I think that Markâs playing and singing was excellent. We have always thought that Kim, Mark and Patrick are warm, friendly and very welcoming. We cannot wait to stay there again."

"In reply to "expected better" from bird Glasgow we stayed on the same week and had a totally different experience. I felt the review was unfair and only written as they were pulled up on the last day for smoking in the room. Lots of guests could smell the smoke coming from their room and made comment that morning to the owners. Considering their vehicle was a taxi which clearly displayed the non smoking sign as the law states, so why they thought they could break the law and put Kim and Mark's business in jeopardy. We also on arrival were told by Kim on how the hotel was run and I thought it was great. I was on holiday and did not want to be bothered every morning. Our bed was comfortable and I had a good nights sleep every night. The matter of the request for a new mattress was not made, it was at Kim's instance that a new one be placed on their bed. It was impressive as within the hour a brand new mattress was delivered. What people forget is that tea / coffee is a complimentary drink and not there for people to drink all day long. There was a tray at reception to help yourself to extra sachets of tea etc but had to be removed as guests abused this. When I went and asked for more sachets I was always given more and asked if it was enough. All the staff were friendly and went out of there way to help in any way. The cooked breakfast every morning was thoroughly enjoyable. If it was not I would not have ordered one morning after morning like they had. I have one question for any one out there. If I cook lots of food at home from scratch and either chill or freeze it for a later date, does that make it not home cooking any more....... answers on a postcard please!! We had some of Kim's home cooked food and loved it........ great value for money. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone. I cannot wait to go back and stay again."

"having visited web sites and reading reviews for this hotel my wife and i booked for 5 nights sun-fri at acost of £327 b+b. we were met by kim and she told us how the hotel was run. rooms were only cleaned on request, clean towels were given if asked for, toilet rolls issued one at time.if you should want any coffee etc for your room you had to ask,and were given two satchets! the room was the only savior,it was clean as was the hotel, however after several sleepless nights we had to request a new mattress for the spring ridden one on our bed,to their credit this was supplied. as for entertainment mark the owner playing guitar for one hour on tuesdays and thursdays hardly qaulifies! now the food, breakfast was passable the only drawback being the udercooked bacon.advertised home cooking did not exist. the evening curry and steak pie was obviously mass produced, although we were warned of too much pepper in the pie.we were told of this on arrival (kim blamed chef)as you do,but she was still warning customers of this too much pepper on friday as we were leaving!so much for home cooking! while mark was quite welcoming his wife kim was rather overwhelming. hw having holidayed in blackpool for 30years this hotel was one of our worst and i would not recommend this hotel to anyone,i dont understand where the good reviews come from. having to ask for for clean towels satcets of cofee and for your room to be cleaned was a total disgrace, and while supplied they were all done with an obvious grudge."

Brilliant in Blackpool!!!
"Location, Location, Location - right on the sea front! I have never written a review before but after our stay in this hotel I had to let the readers of Trip Advisor know about this little gem. After staying in many other hotels in Blackpool I could not believe the pride that the owners take into delivering a memorable time for all of their guests. It will stay with me for a long time. All the hotel was so clean, all the staff continually smiled and the âhome cookingâ style food was yummy. Brilliant entertainment, pool table and a well stocked bar. The hotel is family friendly but as we were travelling without children I would also highly recommend to couples too. Great value hotel with that unique personal touch from Mark & Kim!!"

This place is great!!!!!!!! LOVED IT!!!!!!
"The minute we got there we knew we had made the right decision choosing the Charlton. We were greeted by Mark (the owner) and to say he made us welcome was an understatement!! Shortly after meeting Mark we met his wife Kim. Both Kim and Mark then spent time with us all explaining what Blackpool had to offer ie NIGHTLIFE!!! They later took us to our rooms and once again we were impressed. The room was spacious and more importantly spotlessly clean. Once we had all freshened up we took advantage of the bar downstairs and had a couple of games of pool with Mark. We did not sample the food ourselves as we had already eaten but the rest of the people who were staying there give the food 10 out of 10 (the smell coming from the kitchen made our mouths water!!!) All in all our stay at the Charlton was outstanding. We will definatley be going back in the near future and i would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a spacious , clean , warm welcoming place to stay. Thank you Mark and Kim!!!."
