New year break
"Just returned from a three night new year break at the Crewes. Our opinions on this hotel are a little mixed. We chose it because it had the 'Hotel of the Year' title, but could not really see why (initially we were very disappointed).
Location good - right on the sea front not far from the Central Pier. Accommodation was clean and tidy, however very cramped. The problem is that this hotel has been divided into too many rooms making them small and the dining room overcrowded. Food was good quality and available in abundance, although we would have found it preferable to have the evening buffet served a little later. Entertainment arrangements were good with three artists appearing each evening, most of which were highly entertaining.
Staff provided good service and were generally friendly and helpful. Although we had a lovely break and a very happy new year - we would not return to this hotel because it is so cramped."

"We have just returned from a weekend away at The Crewes. We had a brilliant time. Our room was lovely with a big bay window and a great sea view. The room was spotless and was redone each day when we went out.
We really enjoyed the breakfast and my boyfriend is a big eater and was even offered a "mega" breakfast each morning - don't know how he managed it all.
The staff were all really helpful and good fun and nothing was too much trouble. The bar at night had a really good atmosphere and we had a really good laugh. The barman was funny with a great sense of humour.
We'd only seen this hotel on the web and were really pleased we picked it. Great location, great room and lots of fun - we'll be back."

Gold Award!!!!! More like Cold Award
"On arrival was given a small attic room with a view over the back, following booking and confirming a sea-view room. We were given our sea-view room after complaining.
The room wasn't big enough to swing a stick of Blackpool rock in never mind 2 adults sleeping in it!
Double room - not much bigger than a single bed - cosy!!! Didn't have enough room for 1 person to even sleep on the floor!!!
No heating in the room - November in Blackpool not wise, the lovely sea breeze howled through the ill fitted windows gave us the feeling of camping, we couldn't even have a warm shower because there was no hot water.
Bar service was offered and at 12 midnight was informed the bar would be closing, any last orders. We ordered a drink, then 5 mins later was asked for our glasses and to leave the bar area! The bar license is till 1am so it said !
Breakfast - OK, if you like a transport cafe feel of service.
Gold Award - I would like to see the critieria."

Visitors from Northern Ireland
"My wife and I have just returned to Northern Ireland from a very enjoyable stay at Crewes Original Hotel.
This hotel was more than adequate for a seaside holiday and we were made to feel very welcome by the lovely owner Debbie.
I cannot understand these fusspots who wrote bad reviews-- who do they think they are?
The room was large enough, the amenities were fine, the location is perfect and Debbie and the staff are lovely.
We would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel.

"This is the worst hotel i have ever stayed in in my entire life, please please please listen to the bad reviews & believe them because they are all true. My Boyfriend and I had requested a SeaView room if one was available, when we checked in we had to pay the outstanding balance before we'd even seen the room which i thought was unusual as a normal hotel you may leave a deposit, then pay the rest when you checkout, I had already paid £53 when i booked over the telephone, however i paid the remaining £50 (as we were staying for two nights) and we went up to our room. We were in room 33 which was right at the very top of the hotel. We had to walk up approximately 6 flights of really steep stairs with our cases. When i opened the door i was mortified to see the smallest room i have ever seen in my life, the bed JUST fit in the room, with no room to walk around the bed at either side. The bed didnt even look clean, it had bits of fluf and what looked like string inside the covers, It was no way a double, it must have been a 3/4 bed as it was tiny and we didnt sleep at all, if 1 of us moved, the other nearly fell out of bed, it was awful. Doors were banging all night and it made our tiny room shatter. The curtains had stains all over and there was a tiny little box television with channels 1-4, our remote control had no batteries in (so much for satellite TV as it advertised on the website). My boyfriend had his laptop with him so he could access his work emails (again wifi was advertised on the website so we thought that would be great), there was no connection from this hotel at all, when we asked at reception we were told if we sat in the corner of the bar we might be able to connect to next door's internet, what an absolute joke. We were given 1 bath towel between two of us for two nights, i had to ask for another 1 at reception. On the evening we were going out and as it was pouring down with rain we asked reception to call us a taxi, they said it was on its way. We waited outside for 10minutes and no taxi came. We went back to reception and when we said the taxi has not came the receptionist just said 'Oh has it not? Well if you walk just round the corner there is a taxi rank'. Why on earth didnt he tell us that in the first place then we wouldnt have wasted time standing there waiting in the rain.
The breakfast was absolutely rediculas, we went downstairs at 9am and were told there were no tables left, so we had to sit in the bar and wait to be called in. There was glasses of orange juice on the table in dirty stained glasses which made me feel sick. The breakfast was cold and on tiny child size plates. This was the final straw and after just one night we had had enough. I went to reception and said we were really disappointed with the hotel and wished to depart a day eary so could we have a refund for the 2nd night we had paid for, Debra the owner said No you cant have a refund, what is the problem? I dont know how she even dared ask that. The whole hotel smells of an old peoples home and they still pride themselves on being 'Hotel of the year 2005' which is totally embarrasing considering it is now 2010. Its about time they took down those certificates and got some major work done and tidy the place up. I have a good mind to report this hotel to the blackpool tourist board.
It ruined everything for us and caused us to cut our trip short as we were disgusted and felt totally robbed. We have never been so pleased to be back home in our lovely clean house."

warm, friendly, clean, central
"We have just arrived back after staying at the Crewes Original for 2 nights. We couldnt fault the hotel at all, our room was lovely and clean, the staff were very friendly, and very helpfull.
The hotel is situated in the perfect place, its central to everything. There was no hen or stag dos there which was great as we went as a family and have an 8 yr old.
We were really happy with our choice, and are hoping to return there again in October for the illuminations.
