Holiday Inn Express, Ramsgate - Minster
19 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"Have stayed here twice. Check in has been painless both times, the reception staff are very friendly and informative. The rooms are what you would expect from a Holiday Inn Express, clean, comfortable with brilliant showers. This hotel is a bit out of the way but the village of Minster is just a few minutes down the road where there's a chinese restaurant and a very good fish and chip restaurant which is reasonably priced. Breakfast is good, hot items include scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages. There was only natural yoghurt on offer though, but the delicious danish pastries made up for that. Check out is easy and we will definitely return to this hotel when we are next down that way."

Convenient located hotel near the Channel Ports
"This property surprised us with the cleanliness and exceptionelly well run.Very spacious bar/lounge area. For a HiEx this is one of the best we have stayed in.They even offer a varied dinner menu, about 5 different hot dishes, all reasonably priced. Also a warm breakfast is served.Reasonable rates.Only downside no WiFi."

A great find!
"I presume this is a new hotel, as the satellite imagery on Google Earth shows a barren site! As a new hotel, it was very clean and everything was in perfect condition. The room was absolutely fine, as was the continental breakfast and evening food. The staff were pleasant enough and provided a quick check in and check out. The hotel is immediately opposite a 24 hour garage and supermarket, which provides somewhere to buy snacks at times when the hotel isn't serving food. The village of Minster is about 10 to 12 minutes walk away, with a couple of pubs and take-aways. I'd certainly stay here again if I was in the area."

Cheap and cheerful
"Our room was small and basic but we did not miss anything. The beds were okay, room and bathroom very clean which was mirrored throughout the entire hotel. Ample parking was availble and the location is good for Ramsgate and Sandwich. Typical for this type of hotel ("Express") is the fact that you can not help participating in the nightly movements and discussions of your neighbours. All in all you get good value for your money (£ 50/night) if you are looking for a cheap and cheerful overnight opportunity."

Value for money, clean and new
"We stayed in this hotel for one night when visiting relatives in the area. Upon seeing the location and the somewhat derelict appearance of the surrounding landscape, I was slightly worried. We had booked the room early and therefore paid only £40 for one night B & Continental B! I needn't have worried though. The reception area was bright and new. Check in was very quick and efficient and the staff were friendly and proffessional. We were directed to room 4 on the lower ground floor. The room was well furnished with contemporary styling and was equipped with a decent sized multi media screen and the usual tea/coffee making facilities. The en-suite was a good size and spotlessly clean. All in all, the hotel far exceeded my expectations for a £40 a night tariff. I hope the staff can maintain this hotel in it's current condition as I have visited many similar hotels that have been let go!"

Good value at £50 a night!
"Stayed here for a few nights as a base to visit several of Kent's excellent castles and stately homes and for that function it did very well. Found the hotel to be clean and quiet . Room on Floor 0 (below reception) away from road. Breakfast is usual Holiday Inn fare; Coffee, cereal, toast etc but there did often seem to be replenishment issues. As stated by other reviewers this is quite remote. Minster has a few pubs but other than that you are looking at a 10-15 min drive into Ramsgate (yuk) or Broadstairs (much better) . The hotel does evening food but not every evening. There is plenty of free parking and it is right next to the main A road so you can be back on your way in seconds. All-in-all as a base/sleep for one or two nights hard to fault at the price charged."

Clean and Modern
"The hotel is located just off the A299 and near to an airport and services. My first impression of the hotel was that it is modern and clean. We checked in and the staff were friendly and doing their job efficiently. We stayed in room 22 down the stairs from the reception and found that the room was very clean and the decor was very modern in style. The shower was good and again the facilities were very clean. We were surprised at how quiet the room was considering it is next to an airport and main road, we could not hear a sound, only people passing in the corridor in the evening. Breakfast at the weekend was from 0800hrs to 1000hrs. The breakfast was adequate serving croissants, toast, chocolate pastries, tea, coffee, hot chocolate from a machine until it broke down and then there was only tea and coffee with hot water from a flask which kept running out. The management could have replenished the stocks of food more efficiently as they kept running out of croissants, etc. The second and third days that we stayed the food was stale as it was obviously left from the day before but we still ate it. I didn't notice any food being cooked in the evening but there is a bar in the lounge which a few people frequented but to eat out we drove into Minster and found a fish and chip shop that had a restaurant and we had a fish and chip supper for just over a tenner and a drink. There are other places to eat in Minster such as the local pubs but they were more expensive. Car parking at the hotel is good and considering we only paid just under 50 quid a night with breakfast in a quiet, clean and modern hotel we had a good comfortable stay and would recommend it to anybody for a short stay. You can pay a lot more for an awful lot less than what we had in this hotel."

good value, clean and pleasant base
"We stayed on the night of the 6 June. We had only booked last minute and found the hotel to be much as reported elsewhere - fairly new, clean and functional. The reception staff were welcoming and polite. There was no restaurant availabilty but we were told about a couple of pubs and went to the New Inn about 10 mins walk away, where the food was good basic pub grub and the staff were welcoming - there was a band playing too. Breakfast the next morning was a fair choice of bread, pastries, cereal, toast yogurt and fruit, but it was only instant coffee. You would not wish to spend a lot of time here but it is certainly a clean and reliable base for a break - and very good value."

Great stay except for reception staff
"The hotel is very easy to find - right on the roundabout outside the Kent International airport. There is plenty of free parking on-site. The entrance to the property is a bit tricky to find, as it's not specifically signposted. From the roundabout had down towards Minster village and then immediate hard right turn into the grounds of the hotel. Hotel is close to the local towns of Ramsgate, Margate etc. The worst aspect of the hotel is the reception staff. Particularly the blonde woman who was rude, arrogant and unhelpful. We had a group checkin of 20 people and reception had made no effort to prepare for the arrival and then made us wait while they handled a complicated telephone reservation at the reception desk (should have gone to a call centre). Despite having the reservation details in black and white they had muddled up the rooming list and after much frustration the group was all checked in after a 50 minute wait. Later they botched a wake up call request and the overeager night staff overcharged us for an extra room. The rooms appear new and are spotlessly clean. Comfortable beds and pillows. LCD TV. Although it was a non-smoking room, there was a heavy smell of cigarette smoke in the corridor. The bathroom was also new and beautfully clean. Nice strong and hot shower. Continental breakfast is included in the room rate and was a good spread, well presented and regularly replenished. Dinner is available but we headed to a local pub. We can recommend the excellent Bell Inn pub in Minster village. Traditional pub ambience, tasty food served in huge portions and fair prices for food and wine. Great value for an overnight stay in a clean, new hotel - staff need some manners and customer service training."

Good value, quiet, comfortable rooms, shame about the location.
"The hotel is newly built or refurbished so the rooms are well decorated, fresh and not tired at all. The bed was comfortable and the room quiet. There is a restaurant/bar. The restaurant food is very basic but ok. The hotel is situated next to kent airport, please don't let this put you off, I was there for a week or so and I don't recall hearing any planes take off or land there whilst I was in the hotel. The hotel is good value being around half the price of a regular holiday inn, with a continental breakfast thrown in too. They did a communications package which includes internet access and pay movies. This was cheaper than just having the internet alone, so worked out well as I need the internet for work and get the bonus of a selection of movies thrown in too. The only downside to the hotel was it's remote location. There isn't much within walking distance of the hotel. There is a petrol station with a mini supermarket opposite, but any restaurants or pubs (as far as I am aware) are a taxi or car journey away. There is a out of town shopping centre a few miles away towards Ramsgate/Margate that has a cinema and a few of the bigger chain eateries. Overall, it's an good hotel if you are visiting on business for a few days, if a little remote."

"I stayed here for one night before heading to Dover Ferry Terminal. It is a nice hotel. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is good value for money. There is a bar area with a good selection of beers, wines and spirits. There is information leaflets in reception area for surrounding places to visit,ie Dover Castle. There is a soft drinks machine also in reception area. There is a wide screen tv in dining area. The hotel rooms were clean and comfortable. The bathroom was nice and clean with shower, toilet and basin. There is internet access in rooms. The t.v in room has good reception. The bed was comfortable, plus pillows. The breakfast (Continental) was very nice.It had a good selection of cereals, yogurts, fruit juices, breads ect. I would recommend this hotel for buisness users and budget travellers."

Value for money
"We booked Saturday night at the hotel through Superbreaks for £40 for a double room. This is an amazing price for the room and a continental breakfast. The room was very pleasant, clean and comfortable. The only gripe we had, which could have been improved, was the Sunday morning breakfast. When we came to breakfast - at around 9.45, we found there were no cups and saucers for tea, no bread for toast, only extremely hard rolls. There were 2 croissants left which again were rather hard and cold. After 20 minutes or so, all had been replenished and the breakfast was quite tasty. All in all, excellent value for money but could be improved on the breakfast front."
