"We stayed at this hotel as part of a Crusader holiday tour. The location is great being only a short walk from both the beach and cliff top walks. The main road down to the beach is not a through road so there was very little traffic noise if any at night. Our room was spacious and had a great sea view. We found all the staff very friendly and helpful, but special recognition must be given to our waiter (Ritchie) who was always smiling and around to assist if we had any problems; also the very nice lady who cleaned our room â it was usually all done when we got back from breakfast. This hotel cannot be praised highly enough and I would definitely recommend this as the place to stay if you are planning a trip to the Isle of Wight."

Unexpected value and quality
"I do not usually write reviews for places we have visited or stayed in. However, I shall make an exception for the following reasons: a. Because I believe this hotel genuinely deserves a comment; b. To add balance to the review by the midwife recorded recently. The Channel View Hotel is an old hotel which appears to have been lovingly refurbished. Our room was very clean, comfortable with enough space to accommodate our needs for the week. The staff are very efficient, friendly and adopt an attitude of "service with a smile". The food was excellent with the highlight for me being the soups which I have not tasted better anywhere else. The Head waiter runs a very efficient room and our waitress (Chrissy?), although new, was very competent with a ready smile. The entertainment, whist geared to the older generation, was fine and seemed to be well received by all. The location, whist on an incline is perfectly placed, being just far enough away from any noise or bustle. The only negative comment I have is no fault of the hotel, in that the visitors who were staying above us were early risers and were walking about their room form 0500hrs onwards! I have no hesitation in recommending the Channel View Hotel to anyone and we intend to return with crusader again next year."

Lovely hotel, good service, courteous staff, great location
"Having all half board, ensuite accommodation and ferry crossings booked and included in the cost was a bonus. The staff were all very friendly and would always be there to help you. The bar manager was very good at remembering names and prefernces of drinks, even after the 1st evening! Which we found charming. The location was great, being halfway down the hill, practically down to the main promenade - not too far to walk up or down to the beach or up the coastal footpath, but was far enough away from the throng of the promenade arcade etc. but within easy reach. Shanklin is a very good base to visit other attractions on the island and one of its nicer coastal villages. We had a premier plus suite which had an ensuite bath with shower over and was a huge room with great views. You could wake up and sit in bed watching the ships coming across the channel and we saw the Queen Elizabeth 2 on one evening. The room was clean and tidy and adequate, though I didn;t like the blanket and sheet much- I am used to a duvet! The food was pretty good value really - 3 courses plus coffee/mints included in the half board. On the first evening, no sooner than we had finished our starter, the plates were whisked away and the next course was delivered. I couldn't eat it straight away so we we had a word with the manager and after that the waitress told us to let her know when we were ready for the next course - what more could we ask for! It was also a bonus having the pool which we enjoyed. All in all a pretty high standard family run, good value, clean and comfortable hotel which goes that little bit extra for you. The staff and managers really do take pride in this place. Would recommend to all ages!"

"Have just returned from a 7 day holiday staying at your wonderful holiday I have nothing but praise on all aspects. It is with complete understanding how you have been awarded Crusader hotel of the year on so many occasions. All your staff are so friendly from early in the morning till late at night, alwys ready to help in any way. A big thank you.Just one little moan a hook in the bathroom would have been good to hang a dressing gown on instead of having to use the floor ( such a little gripe). I will be back."

Impossible to fault
"Having stayed at this wonderful Hotel for a 'turkey and tinsel' previously, we could not wait to book again when our coach company published the new brochure. The staff are very helpful, considerate and aim to please, so much so, they even purchased a bottle of my favourite drink prior to our stay. Our room was very conveniently situated, spacious and comfortable. We could not fault the food - "good English cuisine" and well cooked and presented by friendly, courteous staff, superby headed by the Restaurant manager who ran a tight, efficient ship. The Bar manager even took the time and trouble to devise some quizzes for the guests enjoy-ment . We looked forward to our daily swim in the pool. Towels provided free of charge is a luxury and a very thoughtful gesture. Entertainment was varied and one day each week people come from all over the Island for Ballroom Dancing on the splendid dance floor. We are so looking forward to another wonderful holiday starting this coming weekend in the hands of this 'exceptional family run Hotel' and know we will not be disappointed. We would have no hesitation in recommending this Hotel to even the most discerning traveller."

Old fashioned, no sleep for stay
"Very old fashioned hotel. Terrible quality of room - bed was so hard had to sleep on folded blankets, gave up and sat in reception. No bath in room, shower only, was so small could not move. Food ok, not much choice. Evening entertainment was awful. Swimming pool was freezing."

"Excellent hotel, friendly polite staff, good location if a bit hilly. Would also recommend Pendleton's restaurant in the Old Village if you are staying on B& B, super food and excellent value"
