"My Mum recently stayed at this hotel. I was appalled to hear of her terrible ordeal and how the staff at this hotel handled the matter, I use the word handled, nothing was handled it was and she was ignored. The night porters attitude was despicable. My poor mother was woken in the night with bed bugs running over her and he almost accused her of bringing them in with her. she was unsure at first as to what they were and put a dead one in a bag to ask him what it was and he back off like a whimp. Basically to cut a very long story short. he moved her to another room but she wasnt allowed to take her things. "just in case the spread to the new room" The next morning he let her have her belongings and she was told the manager wasnt in today. Then the manager wasnt in for a week. Basically it wasnt mentioned again and it was all brushed under the carpet. I am furious and wish I had have been there. NOT EVEN A MEASLEY APOLOGY ."

"We booked this hotel because we wanted to go to the Garlic Festival,we weren't expecting a great deal as it was a "coach Trip holiday" and from passed experience we weren't expecting a lot.However.we were pleasantly surprised the staff were fantastic food surprisingly good ,rooms very clean beast shower I have ever had in an English hotel. The hotel is a bit tired and needs an update, but everything else was great. We would like to ask why do you think everyone who uses a coach trip wants BINGO we came for the Heavy Rock Bands(management please note).!!!!!!. Well done and Thank you for a great stay"

"We have just come back 2/8/14, if you want to stop in a hotel that"s got torn and patched wallpaper, no fans (temp in 20s) no fridge, tea and coffee and milk in plastic bags.two plastic spoons, furniture that needs to go to tip, when you open the windows filthy frames never cleaned, furniture that falls on you which happened to a elderly lady while we were there badly bruising her face ruining her holiday, then told by management she must have pulled it over. Dining room like a cattle market one hour for breakfast & evening meal, one sachet of marmalade each no choice of jams, if you want sauce that not on the table it"s thrown on by the waitress, don"t ask for another of the smallest bread rolls possible they only supply one each. on the plus points food good position excellent. our room had no shower bath suite with plywood rotten split bath panel. this is the hotel for you."

Staff are poorly trained and arrogant manager
"Cleaning staff walked into our room at 8am (check out is only 10am), they did not knock and when we made a formal complaint to the manager, we were told we should have a sign on the door... This must be the only hotel in the world that requires people to put signs on there doors when they are checking out that same day. the way in which the complaint was handled was inadequant. A formal appology from the manager would of been ideal except she exacerbated hers and her staffs incompetance with feeble excuses. I"

Absolutley Terrible and Horid!
"The only good thing about this hotel is the location. The toilet in the room had urine on the seat. The cups were dirty. The service and attitude of the staff was abysmal! Sleep quality itself was poor, it was obvious the bed sheet had not been washed too! I would not wish this hotel on my worse enemy! Avoid!"

fantasic value for money and excellent service
"I and my partner as well as some friends booked a coach holiday to stay for 4 days and 3 nights. I don't understand the negative reviews this hotel received. We were greeted by the Manager and, while we collected our room keys, our luggage was taken to the relevant rooms. The atmosphere was absolutely excellent and the service without fault. All staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble for any of them. The entertainment was great and a good time was had by all. The food was simple but ample and various choices available. The room we stayed in was very clean as was the bathroom. I can honestly say that we have absolute no complaints at all and indeed, would return again. If there is any kind of "negative", it's that the swimming pool is a little on the small side. However, it serves it's purpose and there is also a Hot Tub. Apart from evening entertainment, the manager made sure that anybody who wished to stay rather than going out, had a good time. We most certainly recommend the Royal Pier Hotel. Other "better" hotels we stayed in in the past could definitely learn a thing or two about Customer Service."

HAD A GREAT TIME
"having read the reviews prior going to the hotel we were very apprehensive when we arrived. we were met by the hotel manager and given information on the hotel etc ,transfer from coach to room was fast and efficient with baggage transfered to room by a member of staff .the staff with out exception were very pleasant & friendly and went out of their way to be helpful .meals were served fast and in a friendly manner . there was an excellent selection of food and more than enough at each sitting ,entertainment each night was very enjoyable .and bar prices very reasonable ,our room did not have a sea view ,- so what - it was clean and very tidy with everything we required for our stay .the hotel is in an excellent position for the town and beach with no noise late at night .most of the visitors were from middle age onward so if you want disco and noise you wont find it here ,small areas do need some upgrading but if you look around your own home you would be very lucky not to find something your not happy with , would i recomended it .yes definately will i be going back YES .sometimes its easy to be put off by a minority that expect gold when they pay for bronze ,and i know some of the previous comments made were not shared by the visitors i talked to ."

Very Satisfied with stay
"Spent 14 days at the Royal Pier and do not regret one second of it. Great view, staff, food and entertainment. Met alot of great people from different bus tours. Jumped on local buses and toured the Island. I am planning to go back for another couple weeks late 2009 or 2010."

Why would anybody stay in a UK seaside hotel?
"Royal Pier Hotel sounds grand but the title is the best thing about this hotel. All very scruffy and dirty around the edges. Breakfast was dire, pool was dirty and smelly, shower was hopeless but the staff tried their best. The whole town is very run down and all the hotels are in desperate need of investment. On the plus side the beach is clean and deckchairs and sunshades are available for hire. The cost per head/night was not cheap and is easy to see why people go to Europe for their holidays."
