10 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"Just back from an excellent two-night stay at the Welbeck. I chose it because of the many good reviews on here, and I can only reinforce the previous opinions - it was a delight. We stayed in room 404 on the top floor, and enjoyed the great sea views. The room itself was beautifully decorated, and very comfortable and well-equipped. It was a "deluxe" room, but I saw the standard rooms as well, and they were of a similar quality. The restaurant was very pleasantly decorated and laid out so you never felt crowded, and the food was terrific for the price, with good service from the staff. The breakfast was brilliant, my wife stuck with a traditional english, and I had the kipper and poached egg option, and it was a real treat. Only let down was the coffee, which was pretty tasteless. If you aren't hiring a car, then do consider the all-in tourist tickets which let you travel on all the buses, trains, electric and horse-drawn trams. If you get one of these, buy it at the airport as it covers your trip into Douglas. I doubt I'll ever return to the island, having done it, but it was certainly an enjoyable short break."

Warm and Welcoming
"We traveled to the Isle of Man via London (from California) for a few days stay someone had told us the Wellbeck was one of the top hotels on the island we had a lovely room on an upper floor, spacious and clean and very comfy. The staff of this family run hotel were so helpful they saw to our every need, and treated us like royalty we ate in the hotel, on more then one occasion the food was excellent with a huge breakfast selection, everything priced reasonably. We enjoyed staying in at night and enjoyed the company of family and locals in the pub to be quite entertaining. Its located very close to the strand and a good little hike into town for shopping. The island itself is smalland can be toured in a day or two depending on how much time you have its so full and rich with history and sights the likes which I have never seen for example: Cregneash Village is stunning like something out of a movie set, the castles and small villages unspoiled it is truly a remarkable place to visit."

Absolutely top class hotel
"We booked last minute to go to the isle of man for this bank holiday weekend and had a fantastic time. The Welbeck Hotel was absolutely spotless, our one bed apartment was lovely. We had a queen size bed in the bedroom plus 2 cot beds for the little ones with a single bed and sofa bed in the loumge area. Lovely kitchen area with kettle, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, toaster and all things required for cooking with the full oven and hob. A dining table to seat 4 people, lovely well lit lounge, bathroom & bedroom. Plasma TV in lounge and bedroom, dvd player & stereo unit in the lounge too. Restaurant facilities were spot on, lovely breakfast and excellent evening meal with a wide range of choices for starters, main meal & puddings with nice liquer coffees too. Bar area "The Rosebury" was relaxed and friendly with free internet access and a seating area with tv and sky with big screen facilities. A gym, sauna/steam room also located on the ground floor. Friendly staff throughout the hotel, bar & restaurant, catered well for children, infants (we had two infants from 13 weeks to 16 months) and a lift within the building, although small, was ideal to cater for the elderly. Well recommended hotel in Douglas bay, Isle of Man. PS Will add some photos shortly."

Probably the nicest 3* hotel I've stayed in.
"Really good hotel for this price range. A family run hotel and it shows. Service was very friendly and personal. Rooms very well equipped and comfortable including plenty of coat hangers, a safe, iron, biscuits - everything you could want. Bathroom was spotless and general cleanliness excellent. Good food for the price range too, not haute cusine, but a good choice and well cooked. We met people in the restaurant who were staying at another local hotel but chose to eat at the Welbeck. My only criticism would be that the lift is very small, it's a squeeze even for two people."

Consistently friendly atmosphere and good service
"Have stayed here numerous times over the past 10 years or so; usually for one or two days at a time. Though not as overtly luxurious or as well blessed with sports facilities as one or two other hotels in Douglas, the Welbeck makes up for this by providing a consistently good service and by making the guests feel valued with its friendly, helpful attitude from the management down to the more junior levels. Rooms are quite reasonable although not state-of-the-art by any means. There is also free wi-fi. The restaurant seems popular and the menu is quite extensive. Parking for cars can be a bit limited on the local streets. However, on balance this is my preferred choice for a hotel in Douglas on the basis of overall comfort and value. Have noticed that the hotel is increasingly busy in recent years and rooms are often not available even during relatively quiet times - a positive sign perhaps."

Very good hotel indeed
"We stayed here a week on 7 nights for the price of 6 B&B terms. The Welbeck is three old boarding houses c1880, greatly upgraded and knocked into one (with consequent changes in floor level etc and a small lift). We had a large superior room with sea view, extremely well fitted, comfortable bed (and they supplied sheets and blankets rather than quilt without hesitation), excellent bathroom. The hotel is at the top of a rise about 150 yds from the Promenade and 15 min walk or a horse-tram ride from the Sea Terminal.. This is an advantage as the seafront can be very noisy. The Welbeck was quiet, save for Monday morning when Douglas Corporation collect the rubbish at 0600 with sufficient noise for the start of WWIII ! The restaurant had a slightly changing menu with plenty of fresh Manx produce - kipper pate and queenies especially recommended.A very busy kitchen, with ingredients prepared from fresh; the fare possibly a bit too "samey" after a few days, but really very good none the less. On the whole, good value, its 3* well merited, and the cooking deserves a rosette Friendly, efficient, cheerful staff"

We loved it
"We had a lovely break staying at this hotel. The staff were warm and friendly and the service was excellent. The breakfast was first class. Our room was very nice and we had some great views of Douglas. We will never forget our first trip to the Isle Of Man. Hope to return again next year. There was so much to see we ran out of time. Car hire can be expensive though!"

Would highly recommend!
"Just returned from a week stay at the Welbeck Hotel, staying in a two bedroom apartment. The accomodation was very clean and well above average, with two separate bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen, separate living room and clean bathroom. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel is located just 100 metres from the beach! Good restaurant and bar within the hotel itself. Would highly recommend and would definately stay there again!"

"We have spent a week in September in one of the welbeck hotel apartments and it was really lovely. There was plenty of space, we found everything spotles clean and nothing we've been missed. Our felling was like we were at home. The hotel staff was very helpful and friendly and we had daily cleaning service at the apartment as well. It was a quiet place and within easy distance to town center and all public transports. We're looking forward to come again."

A very good hotel.
"A very good hotel. The Welbeck Hotel also has 6 apartments with bathroom, lounge/dining area, kitchen and bedroom. We stayed in one of the apartments and found it excellent for our family of 4. The apartments are attached to the hotel so you can, if you choose, eat in the hotel restaurant and use the hotel bar. We found Douglas a lovely place to be located with easy access to all parts of the island. Web site welbeckhotel."
