10 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
very nice accommodation - but not sure its for young families
"We stayed at the Chudleigh in April and we booked one night initially. However, we then decided to stay for 2 but there was no availability for the night before so we booked the Le vere bed and breakfast next door. The Chudleigh was beautifully presented, very clean with a very high standard for a b and b. It was so nice I didn't dare touch anything and with a 6 year old child felt a little on tenterhooks. (and he is very well behaved) I am not sure if this was due to the owners who although very friendly in one respect announced immediately how much they had been spending on decoration and upkeep .... this was a little off putting.... then I was also given a full run down on theprobems with hotel owner next door (where we had a very pleasant stay). I could not fault the Chudleigh for presentation and the breakfast was great - however, when we visit Clacton again we will stay in the one next door were we felt comfortable and welcome with the very friendly host who had nothing but good things to say about his neighbours!"

Extremely pleasant stay!
"I stayed by myself at The Chudleigh for 3 nights in Feb 2010. I had a very comfortable double bedroom with ensuite. Comfortable bed, nice bedding and very warm. Breakfast was well cooked and presented and the usual to choose from ie fruit, cereal, cooked etc. Close to shops and rail. Hosts very approachable and delightful people, wanted to please. Would recommend."

Top notch breakfast!
"Very friendly and helpful host's. Very clean room and excellent breakfast with plenty of choice.
One very small niggle, room 10 had toilet and shower in one room and bath and handbasin in other room meaning you needed to go from one room to the other to wash hands."

No surprises Guest house
"This Guest house is run on a 1st class basis.
It has lovely comfortable accomodation, perfectly clean and top class furnishings.
The beds are so comfortable, and thick carpets in the bedroom.
The breakfasts are very extensive and there is no scrimping on the amount served.
In the rooms are tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits and milk..
The owners have had this Guest house for over 40 years and it does show how they can be run.
What a pity that there are not more of them"

An excellent B&B
"This is a hard-to-fault establishment, which is a shame as it doesn't give me much to write about. In any case the Chudleigh is handily situated, halfway between the pier and Clacton's main shopping centre. At the same time the road is relatively quiet and we didn't experience much by way of aural disturbance apart from the occasional coughing from an adjacent property and the owners' dog(s) but none of this was during the slumber hours. The cleanliness is top notch and the the only gripe I would mention is that there was a slight trace of mould on the bathroom ceiling in the shower area, possibly indicating a need for a fan. Breakfast is very generous and is served from 8:30am (although earlier by prior arrangement)
The husband and wife team that run this establishment are very friendly and welcoming and really add positively to the feel of the place.
The final things I will mention didn't really detract from the holiday but I feel should be noted given that this is an AA **** rated establishment are. Old CRT TV without any digital channels. Wifi internet connection rather flakey. Polycotton sheets. Couldn't access wardrobe as the armchairs took up too much room.
Overall I would say that the Chudleigh is a great place to stay for holidaymaking in Clacton and surrounding areas."

Great place, great people, can't wait to return!
"Found this hotel online while searching for a place to stay in Clacton on Sea.
We lucked out! Nice room for my husband and daughter and I. Easy to find, reasonable rates and very clean! Owners are generous, friendly people. Breakfast was a feast! Everything was delicious. Our 2 and a half year old was well received. (and thankfully well behaved) The hotel is in a great location. I can't think of any negatives! Well, maybe I couldn't hear the seagulls well enough. But they can't control that!
Can't wait to return."

Top marks for Chudleigh !
"we stayed in a very pleasant twin room ,the en-suite was great- very good size with both bath and shower- excellent ! Everything was very clean, and all the little extras--sewing kit- choccies- biscuits- tissues together with tea and coffee making facilities made us feel very at home. The towels were extra large too,not something you find very often. After a restful night's sleep in very comfortable beds we enjoyed a wonderful breakfast .Masses of choice and all beautifully cooked and presented. Nothing is too much trouble and the proprietors are very hands on in there approach in making sure that all needs are catered for.Chudleigh is in a prime position in Clacton; shops within easy walking distance as is the sea front. The weather was freezing cold during our stay but the welcome from Carol and Peter was exceptionally warm and we will endeavour to return very soon. You will not be disappointed if you are lucky enough to stay at Chudleigh."

conveniently placed hotel
"We stayed one night in room 10 on the top floor (2nd floor, no lift). The room was a family room with a 5 ft bed and a single bed with another single underneath. It had a bathroom with bath and sink a separate shower room with shower and loo. It had tea/coffee/hot chocolate with kettle/teapot/mugs and even a tea-towel. TV was fairly new. The decor was pretty old fashioned with sheets and blankets on the bed instead of a duvet but lovely and warm. The breakfast the next day was brill, cereals, toast, cooked breakfast, tea and coffee (various types ie decaf etc.,) all cooked by the male owner! It felt like a real family hotel. Turn right out of the hotel and you were only 5 mins walk from the pier, turn left and you were 5 mins walk from town centre. Fantastically placed. Thank you for a nice stay. We will be back."
