Deserves to be No 1 in Rye

"I agree with all the other good reviews, well trained friendly staff, good food and service and great value for money. We had the mid-week special where one can choose any room that is available. What a good selling point! We went for the cottage which if one accepts is not like a modern hotel suite, was small and quaint but had everything we could expect. The downstairs sitting room meant one could watch (flat screen) TV in comfort and the bedroom upstairs (another flat screen TV) had triple aspect window with views to the sea in the distance. Breakfast and dinner were good, will definitely stay there again, a little gem and so reasonable."

"We stayed at the hotel for one night on the 11th June. Used sat nav to find our way to Rye and was glad we did as would not have believed Hotel could be up a narrow cobbled street. But it was and the character of the streets and buildings up to our hotel was fab, it was like stepping back in time. And the hotel didn't dissapoint either it looked brilliant and was in a fab location at the end of the road with gorgeous views onto the river and across to Camber sands and castle. Checking in was perfect all our questions answered and the warm friendly greeting was so nice, nothing was too much trouble. We have been lucky enough to stop at many hotels around the world and this is not always the case !!!! No matter how much you have paid !! Onto the room wow !! four poster bed with the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on...two arm chairs and flat screen tv. A tray with coffee and tea and 2 bottles of water still and sparkling. The bathroom/dressing room was perfect ,modern but with character (as was the whole room). Spotlessly clean with lovely fluffy white towels, good quality soap and shower gel.The views from the original sash windows was uninterupted all the way to Camber sands beautiful. We had our evening meal, which was from a choice set menu and was priced depending on how many courses you had. Everything was of good quality and well cooked. The breakfast was the same perfect. I understand all locally sourced were possible. The service in the dinning room was really good the staff were excellent meeting our needs before we had to ask !!!! Our only regret was not stopping longer."

Lovely location - lovely Rye

"This is the finest hotel in Rye, You can stay at the George or Mermaid Inn aswell, but the Hope has a lovely end of road location over looking Rye Harbour and Camber Sands, Makes a great location for weekenders or even a short week stay. Children friendly but breakfast starts at 9am - so bit late for early birds - but worth the wait indeed. Rooms are full of character and everywhere is like a BBC TV period drama. Rye has history everywhere from Queen Elizabeth 1st to Paul McCartney (nearby to Rye). You might struggle with a wheel chair or push chair, so be careful. most of the streets are cobbled. Christmas deals available and worth keeping your car parked in a spot next to the hotel for the duration and just walk everywhere. Camber sands does need the car and if its a good day then get to the beach early to avoid the 3 mile queue to the beach carpark. No pool, but who needs one in Rye."

"Stayed here for 3 nights in June 2009. What amazing value on a mid week special, £310 in total including 3 course dinner with wine, any room so we chose the Admirals apartment. This is very large, with 2 bedrooms, lounge, small kitchen and patio overlooking the marshes out to sea. Parking ok as hotel provide permit for street parking. Cooked breakfasts were really good, excellent ingredients locally sourced and nothing too much trouble. Would rate the full English 10 out of 10. Very friendly staff. Had dinner only once as we wanted to explore Rye, this was lovely, lots of choice and very well cooked and presented. Fish is very fresh as it is sourced from shop with own boats and probably caught that day. Also tried the Mermaid Inn for a special meal and this was extremely good with excellent service in this very old hotel. Rye is very quaint, cobbled streets, tea shops and period buildings. We look forward to going back here again."

"All the medieval beauty is literary outside the hotel doorstep - or your window. I actually regret we didn stay longer in our room - but we just couldn't help but stroll around Rye, checking out cafes or just resting in a shade. service was attentive and friendly, with almost family feel to it so we didn't even mind a very occasional slip up. another reason to come back: try out the Rich Dark Chocolate Marquis dessert! mmm we wished we could stay longer"

"Having a belated Birthday break with my partner, we choose this hotel as the reviews suggested a excellent hotel, However we was disappointed to be put in a very small room that was constantly too hot, the big disappointment was the bed which was wonky & seemed to have a plastic cover on the mattress, which was awful at night we had to take it off as it made you feel far to hot & uncomfortable. On the plus side the view & the breakfast was good, the location was excellent."

"Don't visit Rye off season if you want life and party! Most attractions seemed closed. However for a relaxing weekend it was perfect. The hotel is reached with diffculty down winding narrow streets, for once though SatNav spot on! It is perched high on the "cliff" at the west end of the town with excellent views, and it is certainly possible to walk from her to anywhere in Rye, as well as surrounding nature reserves etc. Room was small but quaint, and exactly as described, breakfast couldn't be faulted. The only problem was with the parking. Parking in the actual town of Rye is at a premium, and the hotel do the best they can with a permit for free on street parking outside the hotel, but be warned space is limited and if you are the last in tricky! Manoeuvering around without scraping other cars (anonymously) seems to be a challenge for some guests as well, but this is not the hotel's fault. If you are planning a visit to the charming old town of Rye, I would recommend the Hope Anchor."

"We picked this hotel purely on the reviews on T.A. and we were not disappointed. Having stayed at numerous large hotels in the U.K. this gem of a place certainly has the added advantage of personal service a attention. Every member of staff was polite and well-trained. The hotel is run extremely efficiently and Hilary (the Manager) is charming and was so helpful and kind on our last night when my husband was quite ill and needed a doctor (I must quickly add that it had nothing to do with the hotel), Hilary was like a close friend to me despite having never met her before. I recommend The Hope Anchor for the excellent food, efficient staff, lovely large bedrooms and fabulous views. You must stay there soon. We will certainly being returning."

"We enjoyed a three night break in February which was excellent value for money. The rooms were clean and well furnished. The facilities in the rooms were good too. The whole hotel was warm and comfortable. The food was excellent and well prepared. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. We would hope to visit HopeAnchor again and would recommend it. Perhaps a larger lounge area would make the hotel even more enjoyable when full of guests."
