Twitchen House Holiday Village

On a budget..!
"Arrived back from Twitchen Park yesterday, I was pleasently suprised..!
We had a Buttercup caravan on field B, i had requested a van near the amenties and thats what we got. The van was fairly new, everything was clean, the shower was the best one ever. Only one small complaint and that was the single beds were very hard on the back. The springs were popping out in places. Couldnt have lasted a whole week on those.
We only paid a couple of hundred for our 4 night break so we thought this was ok. Went in the club a couple of times and it was fine. The team worked very hard to entertain us, even though some people couldn't care less what was goin.
Twitchen is in an ideal place for getting around, Woolacombe is only down the road and it was lovely there. There was a carvery at the end of the road and the meal was good, couldnt get in a pub in Morthoe for a meal so cant comment on that.!
Did go to Illfracombe and see Joe Pasquale in a show..he was very good.!
All in all our stay was good, we are 1 OAP, 1 adult and a 12 yr old, I think proberly would suit a family with smaller kids better."

Tired old caravans- beware!!
"on entering park-very impressive. To be fair outdoor pool is lovely, though usual hogging of sunbeds and even chairs. indoor pool and playground - good. really well kept public areas.
the caravan was a different matter. booked a 4 day break, really glad it was no longer as the accomodation was tired to say the least.
very worn ,dirty upholstery. very stale smell throughout, broken window locks, broken shower head(so couldnt have shower unless you held the whole thing).filthy carpet in lounge. mattress with springs sticking up. worst of all-something loose on the roof that rattled and banged all night. real shame because the kids loved the pool etc and it is a lovely area-maybe a liitle remote for some people. cant say i would go back ,as the accomodation really spoilt this trip for me"

Great place to stay - would go again
"Just had two great weeks at Twitchen Park. We went for a reasonably priced van and it was very clean and well presented. The site amentities were excellent - in particular the indoor swimming poo - fantastic sea life murals. Helpful staf - even the campsite shop wasn't a rip off (they have been at other sites we have stayed at). The site in really convenient for great beaches at Woolacombe and Saunton as well as being close to Ilfracombe. You can also use the facilities at the other sites managed by the same company in the local area which gives greater variety than you would get from one site alone.
I would certainly recommend this site to anyone."

Disappointing but could be improved
"Took our two 6 year old twin grandchildren for the first week of the summer holidays. Excited. Park looked good, little ones loved the yellow bus. We had booked a three bed mobile home, looked good on web. The caravan was yuck, old, smelly, dirty, worn out, bed settee broken, cooker chipped and worn and in lousy position on slope. Disappointed, but in fairness spoke to Deputy Manager and she found a new van for us in a better position, van super although too close to others and no outside space. Benches are allocated and they only have a few, so couldn't sit outside, stuck inside van. People opposite took the table and chairs out of the new van and put a barbeque on the new table (that's how they get wrecked?). would advise Twitchen to put a table and a couple of chairs outside each van and provide a communal barbeque area like in France. Also Club House! Noisy little children running wild until midnight. No seats as rude adults save seats for little children and allow adults to stand. Entertainment staff hard working and pleasant though. No internet facility here have to go to Golden Coast."

New van in lovely setting
"My wife and I went with my son, daughter in law and their toddler to Twitchen for a weekâs holiday in mid May.
There are some older vans on the site, as criticised in earlier reviews, but our van was practically brand new; the large lounge area had a comfortable sofa and chairs and opened onto a deck, beautifully sited overlooking the sea. All we can say is that this was certainly the newest and best appointed van we have ever stayed in. It was very clean and comfortable, fully equipped complete with starter pack and linen. The decking with its own gas BBQ and bench/table had great views overlooking Woolacombe bay.
In the main, the site seemed very well kept with lots of people working on the upkeep and maintenance. The outdoor pools were not due to open until the following week, which was no problem as the weather was too windy but the indoor pools were very warm and inviting.
We are not great ones for evening entertainment, so cannot comment on that but we took our granddaughter down to the early evening Kidâs Disco, which was very well organised and all the children had fun and met Billy Beach Ball.
Twitchen is in a lovely setting with good walks through the woods and down the valley to Woolacombe and beach , and a pleasant walk, approximately 15 minutes across fields to the delightful village of Morthoe, with its pubs selling food and local beer. We enjoyed golf at the 9-hole Easewell Golf Club just across the road, which offered discounted green fees to Woolacombe park guests. There were great panoramic views of the coast.
The staff were really helpful and friendly and we would certainly come again and recommend it to our friends."

A fab weekend as always...........
"Got back yesterday from a long weekend at Twitchen Park, Friday to Monday. I've been going to Twitchen Park for about ten years, using their caravans and also taking our own caravan and we always have a fantastic time there.
Accomodation - This time we were allocated a Buttercup Grade caravan on A field (A40). It was a lovely caravan, recently refurbished, although a little bit small, but fine for 2 adults and 2 children. We were about a minutes walk from the clubhouse, pool and the shop etc. One thing it didn't have was a microwave, but this didn't cause much of a problem. We had a couple of issues where our gas kept getting turned off but this was quickly solved by a quick visit to reception and a maintenance bloke was sent up to us. The caravan had plenty of storage space and wardobes.
Entertainment - Matt and the rest of the entertainments team work really hard to make sure all the kids (and big kids) have fun. The kids loved Billy and Betty Beachball and loved the party dances. The 3 nights we were there, the nightly entertainment was fab. There was a singer on the Friday night who was fantastic. Saturday night was Celtic Storm, which was a mix between a magic show and riverdance. It was one of the best shows that I have seen in a long time! Some of the illusions were amazing. And then on the last night was a comedian/singer called Mickey J Bull, who was good.
Days Out - Weather was a bit rubbish this weekend so we didn't really go out as much as we normally would. We took total advantage of the big yellow bus (£2.50 each for the duration of your stay), which goes between Twitchen, Golden Coast, Woolacombe Bay and the beach. You have use at facilities at all three parks, so we went swimming and bowling. On the Sunday we went to Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park. I was a bit worried about going there because of all the bad reviews on here. But we had a great day there. Highlight of the Day was definately the Wolf Talk with Shaun "Wolfman" Ellis. Apart from the bit when the wolves got fed which was a bit yack. But overall a very interesting talk.
Overall we had a fantastic weekend. If anyone wants to ask me anything, please email me cuz I do know quite a bit about the three parks and the surrounding area.

"On arrival my first impression of the site was very good, and very well maintained. we where then given the keys to there flag ship, on entry to this i as others thought we had been given the keys to the wrong van. the carpet i could not tell you the colour due to the age and the dirt ,the kitchen work surfaces were chipped and very unclean the bedding that should have been on the bed was thrown on the floor. Went to the bedroom and the protective cover didnt fit and was covered in mould around the edge . The upholstery had been so badly treated that the foam inner had been pulled out .as i have said we watched the video online, and on the strength of this we booked the FLAG SHIP OF THE SITE.I returned to reception to complain and was told that we had got what we had paid for, but we could upgrade for a further £25, we could not understand how we could upgrade, if we where already in their FLAG SHIP which we booked online.I would like to just warn people that what you see is not always what you get.. The caravan that we where upgraded to, which was in E FIELD, was what I would have called their FLAG SHIP, which I believe is what we should have been given without having to upgrade. Last year we stayed at a Woolacombe bay site, just up the road, and we had a fantastic caravan, and really enjoyed our stay."

"I have just returned fron a mini break at Twitchen House. What a surprise!
I was a little wary after reading some reviews! but believe me this site is lovely. The caravan was clean and comfortable, well stocked and welcoming. There was even fresh flowers biscults tea and coffee sachets.
We took our two dogs with us so i thought we may have been given a older well used van but we have no complaints at all. Well done Twitchen House.
The walks to Morthoe and Woolacombe are briliant, the grounds are very well maintained.
The staff are very helpful and pleasant
I liked it that much we are going back in october!
and kept clean and tidy."

"Booked a caravan on the net. Watched a video of the van, and booked. Wanted a top class van which was new. Just wanted to relax for the week. Arrived at Twitchen house in Wollacombe. Site was fine. The van was the pits!! It smelt and was not the same as the video we had watched on their website. We went straight to reception and asked if we had been given the wrong van? The woman there was very hostile and insisted to us and another person( who was complaining of the same thing) that we had the right one. I told her it was filthy and it smelt. She said that houskeeping could come and clean it for us. We refused and asked for our money back. We had a stern "NO". We returned to the van. We started to clean it and make the best of a bad job. Firstly the pots and pans looked like they had been used on a bonfire. Plus the handles were hanging off. Then the microwave was red rusty inside and bits of the paint was crumbling. This would have been in the food. There was cobwebs everywhere. The sink was green, but looked brown with tea stains. It was the last resort when I found a skid mark down the loo, and pubic hair from the previous occupiers.! My husband went to reception with the pans and told the same woman that these pans represented the cleanliness of the van. She never said a word. Just looked at him and said that they would be replaced. She then started talking about us to her colleague. How rude!! Then the table and chairs nearly collapsed!! Up came 2 maintenance guys. When I showed them both the state of the van they couldn't beleive it. One of them brought us up a new microwave. Then repaired the table. The other brought us more pans.( not new ones) There was even toe nails left in the seats. The bed didn't seem too bad, but neither of us wanted to sleep in it. Next day the shower cubicle glass fell out, almost landing on my husbands toe!!!! The oven was as black as a used barbecue too. I cant tell you about the barbecue, because it was so dirty I dont know here to begin. I had spent over 3hours cleaning and bleaching, and it still was not clean by any means. This is not acceptable. It cost £300 for the week. We left on Tuesday(3 days after arriving) We had had enough. It was the worst place we have ever stayed in. DONT GO!"!!!!!!!!!!! We will be writing to the british tourist board and the site managers. We didn't expect it to be like home, but it should have been hygienic, especially as this was the highest class van."

WOW What a suprise!!!!!
"We visited Twitchen Holiday Parc 11-15 July 2008 through the Sun newspaper holidays for £15. I had my doubts but thouroughly enjoy ourselves. The parc has a great layout with paddock/field areas so not masses of caravans in rows. We were lucky enough to be allocated a brand new caravan with decked area (without furniture!) Woolacombe beach was about half an hour walk away mainly down hill, there are various routes you can take but we chose the cliff path which started out with a beautiful woodland walk. They have a gareish yellow double decker bus which runs a shuttle bus to and from the beach and costs £2 pp per week undr 5's were free so this was a fun way to go back up the hill. Used both indoor and outdoor pools both were suitably heated. I would give crazy golf a miss as it a bit tired but my 5 year old enjoyed it. Ventured to the clubhouse on out last evening and had a fun time, kids entertainment was very good and if you're lucky 'Billy Beachball' will make an apperence it seemed this was the highlight for most kids present, mine included. Beach beautiful, clean and not to crowded considering weather and season.
Overall will be returning next year if we can get a good deal."
