Friendly, well run hotel.
"If you are looking for first class accomodation in the Torbay area, then this is the place. Situated in a quiet location about 1/4 mile from the sea front, with good access by rail, bus and car (free hotel car park). We stayed in room 3, a large airey double with an ajoining room housing two single beds. Ensuite (in the double), TV/DVD player in both rooms. Decor is very clean, modern and well thought out. Breakfast is served in a small dining room with a large window overlooking the front garden. Self service for cereal/juice etc and table service for cooked breakfast. Food quality is excellent. Food is also available in the bar area in the evening to the same high standard. The bar is well stocked (not overpriced) with a comfortable relaxed atmosphere. There is also a TV/playstation set up in a small sofa room ajoining the bar - great for the kids. At this point I must mention our hosts Andy & Carol. From the moment we arrived, to final departure we were made to feel totally at home. Their service, attitude and commitment was excellent . Nothing was too much trouble. A "just ask" mentality prevails at the Elmdene. In short , this hotel is worth a 5 star rating and should be on your hit list. Thanks, Steve, Cathy, Jess & Chris - Durham"

friendly,clean,great Hotel all round
"Elmdene Hotel is excellent, could not fault it ,its central to all areas,Cockington, Torquay town, Paighnton and Brixam. There is a bus stop just over the road which takes you anywhere in torbay area every 15mins. Andy & Carol are hard working & friendly nothing is to much trouble for them. The rooms are very clean and modern, spotless. The breakfast is one of the best, choice of fruit, yoghurt, cereal, and a full English breakfast with toast, which is cooked perfectly. We will defanetly be going back again Thanks Mark & Tina"

"Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights on 11th and 12th July in room 3. The room was lovely with some nice extra touches, great hospitality tray, chocolates and toiletries all included. Flat screen tv with dvd player and rooms serviced daily. The whole hotel is absolutely spotless, breakfast has a varied menu and full english served on hot plates. The owners Andy and Carol are the perfect hosts with nothing being too much trouble. So conveniently situated, only a 15 to 20 minute walk into the town. We will definately return to this hotel and recommend to friends (already have) Well done Elmdene you have definately got it right and are doing a fantastic job!! See you soon M and T"

Nice hotel run by nice people
"Found this hotel on the internet and checked out the reviews on here before booking. The hotel was very clean and modern with off road parking. We had a standard double room which was a good size - excellent shower! Breakfast was very good, plently of choice from either a full English to a bacon sarnie. The hotel had bar facilities and Andy was an excellent host. Had some interesting conversations about football (he's not a bad fella for a Birmingham fan:-) ) The hotel was a 20 minute stroll along the sea front to the harbour area. The walk through the gardens was very pleasant on a sunny evening. After spending an evening in the centre you could get back to the hotel easily as there was a frequent bus service if you didn't fancy walking. All in all a nice clean hotel. The owners Andy and Carol were lovely people and we would definately go back and also recommend to family and friends."

"Very nice short break. Proprietors were very welcoming and could not have done more, they were there whenever we needed them without being obtrusive. Hotel was very clean and its location was ideal, near enough to the sea front but far enough away to avoid the noise of the boy racers. We will certainly go back again."

A real find... an ideal base for a perfect weekend
"Decent modern bedrooms with flat-screen tv. Attentive service - Andy & Carol are warm friendly hosts - even gave us a lift back to the station as it was raining heavily. Enjoyable breakfast too. Would definitely stop here again..."

Couldn't have found better - a little gem
"If you want excellent value for money in Torquay, it would be very hard indeed to beat the Elmdene. Everything about the house (a Victorian villa from about 1870) showed great attention to detail - sparkling clean, very comfortable bed (huge in the room we had, No 1), quality and beautifully co-ordinated furnishings, genuine friendliness and a warm welcome from owners Carol & Andy, with a variety of breakfast items (plus buffet) cooked on request. They also provide bar meals and packed lunches on request. A selection of DVDs is available. An easy, flat 6-7 minute stroll down to the sea, about 15 mins. walk to the town centre, 3-4 minutes to the station, in a quiet residential area with parks, pitch and putt golf and playing fields nearby. We would recommend it to anyone for a short or longer stay - we're sure you'll like it ! David & Lena, Gloucs."

Feels like coming home
"We made a trip to the UK this summer and looked for a hotel wich was small and friendly. We find some reviews about The Elmdene and booked a room. I had seen a very nice room on the website and asked for that specific room. When we arived at the hotel the owner gave us a very nice welcome, as it was our 10th weddig anniversary they had a small attention for us on our room. The hotel is located very good, a short walk to the beach and the town centre. The room was very spotless, and big. The bathroom was quite small, but also spotless. Breakfast is good and you can get all you want. Downstairs there is a bar and this is something special. I think this is just made for Andy himself (the owner). Let me explain: the prices are very cheap, and Andy just loves to talk to his guests, and we loved it to! He gave us some good tips for trips in the environment. We also used some evening meals in the bar, you can't get better meals for the money in Torquay! there is also parking at the hotel wich is very important to me. We hope to get to Torquay again, at the very same hotel."

Great Location, Excellent Stay
"We stayed for one night in May and found this hotel to be of a very high standard. It is in a good quiet location within a short walk to the promenade and the town centre. It is in a nice leafy area with a park across the road. The hosts were most welcoming and helpful and breakfast was excellent. Rooms were spacious, bright and clean and the bed extremely comfortable. We would recommend this without hesitation as a great place to stay in Torquay."

Excellent Family Hotel
"Not a huge amount to say about this hotel, apart from excellent. Andy & Carol made us feel very welcome from the moment we walked through the door. The Room We stayed in one of the family rooms (2 adults & 2 children in our party), room 8 right at the top. Plenty of room for the 4 of us with the chidren getting proper beds rather than cots that you sometimes get in other hotels. The room was spotless and included TV, DVD & freeview (with kids channels!). We were also given a tea tray that included biscuits and fruit Shoots for the kids (nice touch). Bathroom was also spotless. Breakfast Choices of cereal, fruit juice, yoghurt and fromage frais. Lovely, freshly cooked, hot full English, rather than bulk cooked breakfast that you get elsewhere. If you look at other reviews we have posted you will see that we are very honest about what we say so believe me when I say that we had a lovely stay and the next time we go to Torquay we will be calling the Elmdene."
