A cut above the rest
"This is a fabulous hotel, the owners and staff seem to genuinely care that you enjoy yourself and enjoy your stay. It's comfortable and has lots of nice touches. The bar is lovely, breakfeast is terrific and it's also well located. Recommend it highly."

comfortable clean excellent hotel
"What a refreshing change, so nice to stay in a english hotel with friendly helpful owners & staff. With tastefully decorated clean rooms some on the ground floor for those with limited mobility. The welcome was warm and a cup of tea and biscuits served on arrival was most welcome. Breakfast was excellent lots of choice and nothing to much trouble, although no evening meals are served here, thats not a problem with many superlative restaurants within five mins walk. The Haytor provides guests with guides produced by themsevles witch are an invaluable aid to finding anything from somewhere to eat to scenic walks or drives as well as local attractions. We stayed in October 06 and even this late in the season many restaurants were fully booked for the following night, we would recommend booking a table before you arrive especially in peak season. Some we would suggest would be Legends fantastic food and service at reasonable prices, Bianco's traditional Italian food "belicimo!", also Jingles very popular Mexican themed establishment but thier menu covers almost all tastes (english-italian-burgers) infact the menu is so vast it could take longer to choose your meal than to eat it."

"We booked this one night stay only the day before, having read previous reviews on tripadvisor.co.uk - we were not disappointed. Like others, the immediate offer of tea/coffee and biscuits was very welcome and not often available when there is the usual tray in every room. There was also no charge for this, although we would have been happy to pay - even large hotels don't manage that!! Absolutely no complaints about anything - friendly, clean, comfortable, the unusual breakfast touches (home-made yoghurt, muffins, etc.), great cooking, walk suggestions - there is nothing more that could have been added. Give it a go if you can - even in the depths of December!!"

Rotary Group Visitors
"What a great hotel - very clean and comfortable with a welcoming cup of tea on arrival - great after a long drive. The owners and staff really made us feel welcome. Their guides on the town and restaurants proved very accurate and fair which enabled our party of 20 to sample some wonderful food in local restaurants. Everyone echoed my views on the accommodation and enjoyed their stay at the Haytor and would certainly return should the occasion arise."

Long weekend break in the Haytor
"What a pleasant surprise on driving into the Haytor car park to see such a lovely hotel. We were greeted with tea or coffee which was most acceptable after a long drive from Kent. We had booked a double room which was more than adequate. The room was nice and clean with complimentary tea/coffee and biscuits. Breakfasts were wonderful with a great selection from full English to homemade yogurt, muffins and fresh fruit. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Our stay was for 4 nights and we enjoyed every one of them. When we come to south Devon again we would definitely stay at the Haytor hotel again."

Excellent Haytor Hotel
"we found the haytor to be an excellent hotel. upon arrival we were greeted with tea/coffee and biscuits a really nice touch. the hotel is beautifully presented with nice gardens and frontage. it is exceptionally clean. we found the guest lounge very nice and relaxing. breakfast was super and all the staff very friendly and helpful. the hotel is nicely positioned just 5 mins walk from town and 10 mins walk to meadfoot beach (our favourite part of torquay) well worth visiting especially the cafe overlooking the beach what a view. we are very happy to recommend the haytor and will stay again on our return to torquay."

Small is beautiful!
"I stayed a night at the Haytor Hotel and found it incredibly restful and relaxing. For me, the ambience of this small but very well run and friendly hotel was impressive, and I far prefered it to larger and more well known establishments. |It is well located too, just up from Torquay town centre and near Meadfoot beach. The owners are friendly, calm and efficient, and unobtrusive too so that you can totally relax. The bedroom was roomy and comfortably furnished and the breakfast was plentiful and served by cheerful friendly staff. It is a beautiful old Georgian building, one of the oldest in Torquay and set in beautiful grounds. It really has such a quiet elegance about it. Perfect for a relaxing holiday."

Excellent Hotel - We will be back
"We stayed at The Haytor Hotel and had a wonderful four nights â I wish we had found it years ago. The hotel is very clean and comfortable and really stylishly decorated without a trace of chintz or over the top flounce! The breakfast choice is huge with a buffet and freshly cooked full-english (I recommend the home made muffins). We didnât have to use our car at all, theyâve got a huge car-park and are only a couple of minutes away from the centre of everything. The staff were all really friendly and helpful, from a welcome cuppa on arrival to booking us a table at a great restaurant."

Absolutely 1st class
"The friendly and efficient staff provided an excellent service matched by the comfort of the room. The cooked breakfasts were delicious. The hotel was spotlessly clean and fresh. I thoroughly recommend this hotel, whether for business or leisure."
