10 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"There were 36 people in our group. As soon as we entered the hotel we knew we were going to enjoy our holiday. It is a very friendly hotel. The food was lovely and always served hot and the entertainment was fantastic. Everyone in the hotel worked very hard to make sure we all enjoyed every minute of our holiday. We would all like to thank Sandy, Nick,Stuart and everyone at the hotel."

What a wonderful weekend
"I organise an annual Tinsel & Turkey trip to a different destination every year, but I must say this hotel lived up to all expectations, even though the weather was very bad the Osbourne Hotel made up for the rest. The rooms were comfortable (Especially for what we paid) The food was varied, ample portions and very well served. Nothing was to much trouble for any of the staff and the entertainment was very good. A big thanks for Nic and his staff as he led by example starting the weekend with a race night of which I can only best descibe as different. I would definetly recommend this hotel to others and use it again.
Many thanks again for a fab weekend

If you want a homely, friendly family run hotel - not a sterile enviroment then this is the place to go.
"Nick & his family and staff were brilliant. Our Coach was due to go to Rhyl but on the day before departure we were told hotel unable to take us. Boiler problems. The Angelo coach company then found us Nick who was willing to take us all at such short notice. He was our angel in disguise. The food was fresh, hot and served by our lovely waitress Chelsea. What a joy to have someone who smiles all the time. Found out later all the beds had to be remade as he was closing for the season to do maintenance. The rooms were lovely & fresh looking and had HOT water which in some hotels we have found to be non existant. Nothing was to much trouble. Even at short notice Nick still provided us with entertainment. We were all surprised at his many talents. His singing along with his friend from the Pandora Cafe was the best."

"My husband and i have just returned from a 5 day stay at the OSBORNE. There is only 1 word to describe our stay and that was excellent. The staff were fantastic. On our arrival at the hotel we were greeted with warm mince pies and a nice welcoming dup of tea. 5 course dinners each evening and good entertainment added to our enjoyment. We will certainly be returning in the future."

pleasantly surprised, very clean, good food and service, fun entertainment for tho se who want to enjoy themselves
"good value, well presented food served by very efficient staff. Rooms are clean and the basket of fruit was a lovely surprise (booked on the internet for a coach trip but didn't read a brochure)
Varied entertainment at 9pm after a game of bingo for those who wanted to play- Adlib (50's and 60's music group) were excellent, as was the karaoke session on our last night. The hotel manager, Nick, led most of the entertainment and was extremely funny and an excellent host.
Only negative comments were to with the bedroom- only one window opened and this rattled constantly ( the building is old)
there was a very small bath, but no shower so it was impossible to wash hair effectively!
Overall, enjoyed the stay, the hotel is close to the sea front, nearby pubs, and a variety of shops.
WOULD DEFINITELY GO AGAIN"

Family run, good food, friendly staff, clean, fun, good value
"This is a friendly cosy family run hotel which has been running successfully for many years by the same family. Any problems just ask reception and they will be happy to deal. Dont forget to pat Dolly the white dog who also mans reception mornings.
Dining room is light and airy - food is wholesome and well cooked and waiting staff are smiley and very efficient.
There is a swiss chalet style bar where they provide fun entertainment - dont dismiss it - give it a chance and join in the fun. There is also a ballroom which sometimes has dancing.
Hotel Inspector bit - this Hotel is made up of 4 mansions linked into one. It is very old and you can see had great character.
Beds are clean, the bathrooms harp back to the 70's a bit and a bit windy in the pipes but it works fine.
It could do with a bit of a redecoration as there are many many 70's flowery borders everywhere which makes it look a little tired.
But overall, because this is family run, and the prices are amazing value for dinner B &B, and it is local to everything you would require, and has entertainment and good food - this well makes up for any retro feel to the hotel. If you want to pay more at a luxury characterless hotel then that is your prerogative.
Just a couple of pointers:
make your own mind up about where to put your key - but they like you to put this on the hooks so they know whose in in case of a fire.
It is totally NON-SMOKING even in Rooms. The other review mentions smell of smoke - this is inevitable as the revolving door is oppsoite where people stand outside in the covered area to smoke. As a non-smoker who dislikes smoke hand on heart this was not an issue.
I recommend this hotel to older people (maybe not suitable for teenagers as not a lot to do in Ilfracombe) who want that personal touch rather than a cold impersonal hotel, and good value."

A real gem
"This hotel is right on the sea front,It is family run, and from the moment you enter the atmosphere is excellent, The rooms are basic but clean, the TV was not very good, as you could only watch BBC 2. The bathroom was small, and only had a shower and hand basin, plus the toilet. we could not get any hot water before 7.00am so had to heat a kettle of hot water in order to wash.and the bathroom needed a waste bin..The dinning room was very nice and the food excellent, with a vegitarian option at each meal. The Bar area had seating in rows and looked rather like a small cinema, if the seats had been placed around the tables it would have been easier for people to be able to speak to each other, and also to put their drinks down. The hotel had a sign up saying happy hour 5.30 to 6.30. do not expect more than 20p off your drink though."
