The Hampton's Hotel
20 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"We stayed with our 16 month old child for 2 nights mid week and had a really nice stay. The owners were really helpful before we arrived by setting up a cot and putting a mini fridge in the room for us which was really nice of them. The room was perfect (Osborne) for us as it has a seperate lounge area where the TV was and we had plenty of room. The bath was great too for bathing a toddler. Breakfast was nice although tables were a little cramped so it felt a little awkward talking. The waitress was really sweet though and was very helpful. Whilst the hotel is really lovely and the owners too, we were not sure about Ilfracombe as a place to visit. There's not that much to do if the weather isn't up to much and when it was warm, it was mobbed everywhere so we spent a lot of time in ques! The hotel is also up quite a steep hill so beware if you have trouble pushing a pram uphill! Overall, we would definitely recommend this place, it's probably the best in Ilfracombe."

The best place to stay in North Devon, no question!!!
"This fantastic hotel offered a great base to explore North Devon, we stayed with our two children and the lovely owners Paul and Janine couldn't have been kinder. They were very family friendly and gave excellent advice on where to go and what to do and helped to make our stay very memorable. This beautifull hotel is tastefully decorated in an elegant and modern style. We had a large family room with pleanty of space for us and the kids, with great views over Ilfracombe. We just didn't want to leave and will definately be returning soon. This is a "must see to be believed" hotel and we wish Paul, Janine and their lovely little daughter Issy all the best, thanks for making our stay so brilliant."

We will definitely be back
"It is a lovely B&B and we had such a great weekend. I booked on the basis of other very positive reviews on this site and I was not disappointed. We were hoping for a beach break which didn't happen as it rained the whole time, but we loved Ilfracombe and still had a lovely time following some great recommendations from Janine and Paul. Make sure you eat at the Gendarmerie, it was one of the nicest restaurants I have eaten in for a long time and the service was wonderful. We had a proper break away and felt a long way away from London.
I thouroughly recommend The Hamptons!"

Treasure in Ilfracombe
"Just back from a stay at The Hamptons (August 09) - we spent a fabulous week in this trendy and tasteful hotel , run by the delightful Paul and Janine, who are very friendly and make you feel very welcome.
We booked into a twin room (Tamarisk , which is quite small - the decor was beautiful but the room itself was quite dark as it was at the back of the hotel.
Can't fault the breakfast, freshly cooked each morning (you fill in a slip each night for your requirements the following moring) and there is plenty of choice of both hot and continental breakfast items . Service is also 5 star.
On the downside - this hotel is not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties as on quite a steep road/hill and rooms over several floors, plus we had issues with our shower not getting hot and I didn't have a hot shower all week - Paul did warn us about the water problems and did offer to come and look at it.
Hotel adjoins a private house and we did experience one night of loud music which finished around 10.00 pm.
Looking around the town this is probably the nicest hotel and is well worth a stay if you are in the area as pretty close to all amenities and you won't find better than Paul and Janine!"

Beautiful hotel with lovely owners.
"My partner and I stayed 2 nights in April to celebrate my 30th birthday. We stayed in The Kasmir room which was lovely if a little small. The decor is beautiful and the owners can't do enough to help. They recommended great places to eat and a lovely walk along the head land. I would love to go back in the summer when they have BBQ on the decking and stay for a little longer. I have only one negative thing to say about our whole stay and that was that the extractor fan in our on suite bathroom stayed on for a very long time after turning off the light."

beautifully designed hotel in lovely location
"We stayed for 3 nights and wished it could have been for longer. I can't imagine that there is a better hotel in Ilfracombe. The rooms are beautifully designed and equipped (akin to Hotel du Vin in style, but at very reasonable rates). Breakfasts are delicious. The location is on a hillside overlooking the town and coast, although back rooms don't have a view. If you want to leave the car behind, it's only a few minutes walk to join the beautiful coastal path."

In one word "heaven"
"What an amazing find. Paul and Janine are a lovely, warm couple with a fabulous sense of style. The hotel is fabulous. The views are breathtaking and our stay was (too short), but very memorable. Breakfast was delicious...all organic and locally grown. Ilfracombe is a special place. You can sleep with your windows open all night and not hear a single sound. There are small rocky beaches in town and lots of fun shops and restaurants. We found Ilfracombe thanks to the BBC show "Build a New Life in the Country" and it was everything we thought it would be and much more."

Fab boutique hotel/B&B
"Lovely hotel/B&B ran by friendly couple. Nice new trendy interiors with lots of well thought out finishing touches. Spacious rooms. Nice lounge/breakfast rooms can be used by guests at all time with a honesty bar. Nice breakfasts with good choice of options. Has lots of extra details to keep guests entertained such as DVDs to use and magazines in lounge and rooms.
Highly recommended. Only downside is that it is a 15-20 minute walk to the front/into town, however there are not many other hotes located at the front and we felt it was worth the walk~!"

Fantastic way to end a week in the West Country
"A night in The Hamptons to finish our tour of the West Country was a wonderful way to end our holiday. Janine & Paul are the perfect hosts and they have developed this boutique hotel into providing first class accomodation and amenities for all its guests. Only regret was not being able to stay longer."

"Great little hotel in Ilfracombe, they are great hosts, they showed us the way to the room, and explain how everything work's, the room was cosy and had a great feeling about it, bathroom was spacious.
The breakfast was really good, almost everything was local, the lounge was nice to chill out and enjoy a drink.
Location is perfect for exploring the town.
Town was a bit quiet, but then again it's wasn't summer or any school holiday.
Keep up the good work, will be back sometime in the summer."

beautiful, stylish boutique accomodation
"We have just returned from a fantastic weekend at the Hamptons. The rooms have been designed and decorated beautifully, the food was fantastic and the friendly owners, Paul and Janine, could not have been more helpful. If you prefer a view I would suggest checking which rooms are at the front, however we certainly were very private at the back and not overlooked at all. The parking is good, however the drive is very steep, our car nearly blew a gasket, so we will park on the very quiet road next time. To return to the beautiful, quiet surroundings of our room after a gorgeous coastal walk, was just bliss. It was a real find, as Ilfracombe turned out to be,can't wait to return to try out another room and sample more of those great breakfasts!"
