what a wounderful place

"Having just returned from a four night stay at this wounderful hotel I feel compelled to write this review.
We went with our two small children (aged 2 and 1 ) and the owners were actually pleased to see them !
We were made to feel extremely welcome and the children were very well catered for.
The food was excellent, fresh and all homemade.Breakfast was a relaxed affair .There was endless pots of tea and the "FullElmfied" a real treat..The children were again well looked after and no one raised an eyebrow when my daughter insisted on rubbing weetabix all over her head thus making a huge mess!
Our family room was well thought out and tastefully decorated. The large flatscreen Tv was a real hit.
We also had access to the internet during our stay.
Myself and my husband got to have a night out on our own as they provide a reasonably priced baby sitting service. This really was a fantastic surprise.
We made full use of the heated indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi. Zoe and Matt even provided us with armbands and woggles for the children ( very thoughtful )
The Hotel is ideally situated for a perfect summer holiday. We ventured out to the nearby beaches, which are stunning and spent hours rockpooling exploring and generally having a great time.
The hotel has a lovely cosy bar and we enjoyed pre dinner drinks while the children played in the well equipped games room.
The new ownwers Zoe and Matt made our stay extremely enjoyable.
The Hotel has a real fresh energy about it and we will definietly be returning.
Well done Zoe and Matt"

"We were booked into the honeymoon suite, this room is right by the front door,so you dont feel complete privacy, also your room window is overlooking the path down to the swimming pool, so people making their way down to the pool or back from, can look straight into the room. The room itself is lovely although we were dissappointed not to have a bath, but a tiny shower cubicle and toilet.

Not what you would imagine from a honeymoon suite.

The breakfast was lovely, and the hosts are accommodating.

We chose the hotel as it had a swimming pool there are not many hotels in Ilfracombe with a swimming pool.

They seem to be very family friendly ideal if you have children."

A really friendly small hotel, well cared for & great service

"What a wonderful little hotel. Recently changed hands and
now owned by a very friendly couple from London who have revamped the whole place.
We knew we'd chosen well when we were greeted with a pot of tea and biscuits.
We selected The Elmfield because it had an indoor swimming pool. The pool was really warm and with the jacuzzzi & sauna...all of which we had to ourselves for a while... we had a very relaxing time. Sliding doors lead to the garden and sitting area, and there is also some excercise equipment
The eight bedrooms have been tastfully redecorated and with large flat-screen TVs and comfortable chairs, the bathrooms clean and cared for. A lounge room with drop-down screen for TV, a games room and a bar all add to the comfort. The hotel is run as if you are staying in someones house. Nothing is too much trouble.
Breakfast was excellent, with lots of fresh fruit & cereals and then a 'speciality' of english muffins with poached eggs and mushrooms or ham or smoked salmon. I got the impression they'd create whatever you wanted. Evening meals were also available, although we didn't try them.
A very nice peacefull setting in a quiet road with good views, and easy access to the cliff path with wonderful views in either direction.
We stayed for four nights and had a really great time."

Excellent retreat for families and couples

"Had a great stay with our family of four at The Elmfield. We were greeted by Zoe with a cup of tea and then shown to our rooms. We stayed in the Family suite which was wonderful. We had two separate rooms connected by a private hallway (can be locked to the outer hall). So our children had their privacy and we had ours. The rooms were large and beautifully decorated. The peace and quiet and the light from the large windows made this a special retreat. We used the pool every day, the kids had a blast. The game room was next to the dining room and once the kids were done with their meals they could venture over there. Breakfast was excellent. After a day at the beach the pool and the hotel were a lovely restful place to come back to. Zoe and Matt are very accomodating and welcoming. Would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay again!"

"Really fantastic hotel with excellent facilities for a weekend away. Made to feel very welcome throughout our stay. The breakfast was very good, and the hotel in a good location for the local town of Illfracombe, which is in walking distance. The owners Matt and Zoe were very hospitable, and we would definitely recommend the hotel for a few days escape."

At last something different!

"We have just got back from the week-long holiday in North Devon, Ilfracome where we stayed in Elmfield Hotel. We had wonderful time mainly because of Zoe and Matt, new owners of the hotel, made an effort to create something different. We are both young professionals working in London and we travel around UK quite a bit. Elmfield Hotel fills an important gap in the market as it caters for young people and young families who often get discouraged either by prize of hotels who would accomodate young families' needs or by overal decor and atmosphere which most of the time I would describe as old-fashion. Well, Elmfield is really different. I'm no expert on interior design but I can say it's very modern yet functional and cosy with antique features. I have certainly 'borrowed' one or two ideas for my home. The food is excellent. Forget the beans for breakfast, in addition to variety of eggs you can get much more exciting french toast or granola. And it tastes great - totally home-made-like. On top of that there is a swiming pool, bar and game room.
We felt very welcome and very relaxed during our stay at Elmfield. This is perfect for a couple who are looking for a bit of indulgence but also for young family. You can also choose from luxurious to less luxurious rooms so you won't be stretching your budget too much. Well done Zoe and Matt!
I hope you'll have good and busy season!"

"Zoe and Matt have brought a touch of excellence to a modern hotel. From the time we arrived to the time left, they couldn't do enough for us. Warm and friendly welcome, the food was incredible with foods locally produced, we will definately be returning. On-site parking, heated in-door pool and a "den" bar. This hotel is a lovely hideaway within walking distance of the town centre and facilities.

"We stayed for two nights and will definitely be booking to go back again. The hotel was fantastic with everything we needed and more. The service was excellent and we were made to feel very welcome.

Our room was modern, spacious and comfortable and had lovely views over looking Ilfracombe. Make sure you don't miss the delicious home cooked breakfast!

We especially took advantage of the indoor heated pool and jacuzzi which were set in lovely gardens. There is also a cosy bar which is great before you head out for the evening. The town is only a short walk away or you can drive to nearby Woolacombe or Mortehoe.

A must for anyone wishing to relax in comfort and style."

Wonderful Short Break

"My partner and I ended up staying at The Elmfield after a mix up with our booking at another B&B. I had spent a couple of weeks trawling website reviews before I decided on the other B&B so was firstly disappointed when I realised I had booked for the wrong dates!!

This disappointment was completely unfounded once we had settled in at The Elmfield! The owners (Zoe and Matt) were extremely welcoming and had a wonderful room (room 6) ready for us (we had a short wait - but were made very comfortable in the bar with tea while we waited).

The hotel had only been opened a few weeks after a period of refurbishment, which had been done very tastefully. In particular

We were upset that we hadn't bought our swimming things when we realised there was an indoor pool, sauna and jacuzzi in the garden!

There was a games room, which is great for children, with lots of toys, snooker table, darts board etc. So lots to keep you busy in the afternoon/rainy days!

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel and we have booked to return in July (with my 2 year old daughter)."

"Really stunning small hotel, amazing rooms, great service and great food.

We arrived at The Elmfield just as they where opening following refurbishment. The couple running the hotel where really friendly, and the staff really helpful.

Our room was delightful, with smashing finishing touches, and the rest of the Hotel really stylish. The bar was great, we especially liked the leopard print chaise longue.

Breakfast was really excellent and dinner was fab too. All that combined swim in the pool and our wonderful weekend was just perfect.

We'd happily recommend this place to anyone - especially those looking for something a bit special."
