"We arrived for a break Mon-Fri 19th Aug, camping trip. There were 2 families who were suppose to be together and rang 3 days before to confirm. We arrived and it is a long story which I will cut down for you, there was no where for us to camp, the staff would not come and sort it out instead they sent 2 maintenance workers. The site pitch lady came, never spoke to us and left, telling them we had to camp in the car park and the other tent on a hill, next to the bins and the road sweeping down the side of it. Eventually she came back and said everyone was in the wrong place and she did not know what to do with us. In the end we were basically told to go home, no sorry or anything. Eventually the site manager came and told us to go where were told or go. No offer of exchange or a solution at all. In the end after a rather heated argument he said if we left we would not have our money back! After he agreed to get us somewhere else and the place he said would not take our dog, so he came back again and told us we had to go to Truro. We booked a trip by the sea and we said no, he said he couldn't see what the problem was and no one else had complained before. That was a lie, while we were arguing our case there was at least 8 families having a go at him with complaints. We ended up with a family moving their car for us and us squashing in and the other tent in front of it. To top it off the tent by the side came back and wasn't happy that we were so close and they complained and had a free meal with drinks and caravan keys! If it wasn't for the people who moved their car we would have had to go home. We would never in a million years go back there, nor would anyone from the camp site the week we were there, terrible treatment of a paying quest."

Don't waste your money, avoid this place.
"I have just stayed at this park for 1 week and paid £614. I chose it owing to it's location in Devon for the places I wanted to visit. I was really disappointed on arrival. It was really dated and shabby. The reception staff were rude and lethargic. We booked a gold standard 2 bedroom chalet. The gold accommodation was probably better than the standard accommodation, but it was not worth the money. The other accommodation blocks were in great need of an update or bull dozing. The bathroom was small and had a slug and mold problem. My hubby had to fix the toilet flush. The 2 seats setting was not sufficient for 4 people. The kitchen was well equipped and sufficient for our needs. The pool cold and too small for the size of the site. The changing rooms were equally insufficient. It did have 2 lifeguards on duty. There was no evidence of security on the site, but I did see the local police on a few occasions. The entertainment was poor, focusing on bingo and young children. It also has an amusement arcade. The food served at the site is unhealthy processed slop. The onsite shop provides the basics. It is on a steep hill, which can be an issue for some. Avoid this place."

"Try and avoid this holiday camp as it's one of the worst place's I've every been to , dirty , outdated, shabby,
The caravan we stay in was dreadful ripped seats, dirty floors and horrible smell of damp.
I know I booked a caravan which would aloud us to take our dogs but I expected a bit better as it cost us over £600 pounds for a week. We watched the cleaners go into one caravan harmed with just a Hoover and some cleaning materials and 10 minutes later they had finished . I let you imagine what the place looked like. The worst thing was they didn't even have a mop to mop the kitchen or bathroom floors . When we cleaned up spill water from the dogs we notice the had den been mopped has the cloth was dirty looks like it had den be cleaned for weeks no I me am months .
When we when to collect our keys there was a lady complaining about how dirty her floor was Great start to our holiday.
We went to have a beer one lunch time expecting a clear bar area but I was wrong the bar area was sticky with old beer which was spill the night before and when we went into the toilets we were shocked to see wet toilet paper stuck all over the gents toilets , also urine all over the place . It didn't look good seeing one of the workers driving around in a pest killing van which was carrying pillows duvet and workers .
Our friends stay in the camp site at the top of the lane and that was clean and tidy not like golden sands north ,Devon.
There's only one thing you could do with park and that is sack all the unfriendly staff and close it down and start from fresh because the surrounding areas are fantastic . "

"Arrived to find dining chair in pieces this was a gold star plus caravan so first impression not good. Missed by checker and cleaner so was it cleaned? Site did not look clean and on 3 days entrance blocked by mobile homes being sold and in the proces of them being moved no advice given as to gain access to site. Sadly cannot find anything good to say. Advise to give a very wide berth DON'T GO."

Don't Do It - Cancel Your Booking
"What a dump. If you're thinking of booking - don't. If you've already booked - read the small print and see if you can cancel.
We wanted a value for money holiday so booked a "bronze" caravan. The small print warned us that bronze caravans were slightly older models but it made no mention of the fact that they would be disgustingly dirty and foul-smelling.
Check-in worked very efficiently (credit where credit is due). We collected our keys with minimum of fuss and made our way to the van. First impressions weren't good. The area immediately outside the van door was covered in litter (a discarded bar of soap, a toilet roll, several cigarette packets, a tea towel and, rather ironically, black bin-liner) .
We opened the door and after coming to terms with the smell ventured inside. The interior was incredibly tatty although we had expected this. What we hadn't expected was the filth. We were able to write our names in the grease and dust on the cooker.
We joined the long line of people waiting to complain at the reception - all seemed to have the same complaint. The receptionist agreed to have the van re-cleaned (we agreed to differ on the use of cleaned or re-cleaned!) and we wandered into Dawlish Warren whilst this was undertaken.
We returned to find that a half-hearted attempt to clean had been carried out. By this time it was around 8pm and not having the enthusiasm for a 6 hour drive home we bedded down for the night. At least the bed linen was freshly laundered and in sealed plastic bags.
The following morning we cleaned the van ourselves, thoroughly sterilising the cooker, fridge and the crockery etc we would be using. We also placed several air-freshners around the van.
By doing this and basically spending as much time as possible away from the site/van we managed to last the week and are glad we did. The area is ideal for a family holiday with plenty to do for our 7 year old daughter.
Please do go to Dawlish Warren for a family holiday - just don't stay at this place !"

Minging minging and minging....
"We left on Monday 27th for a mid week break away. 2 adults, an 8 year old and a 5 month old puppy
We pulled up and and were a little put off by the look of the "chalets" concrete prison is more the look.
We opened the door and the smell of damp hit you straight away. We looked round and saw that the accomodation was nothing like the website shows. It was wood chipped wall paper and the colours were like the school toilets. The metal bunkbed wobbled and looked generally unsafe. There was damp and mould patches on the ceiling in the main bedroom. The bathroom was in errible condition. Paint peeling off the walls. There were school style plastic chairs in the corner of the lounge area and a ropey looking table.
We came out and spoke to th family next door who said they also thought tha tht accommodation was terrible but they still had another week left. They said that the family opposite complained and they had not seen them since.
We went to reception to complain and the woman wanted to know what we wanted her to do about it?! REFUND PLEASE! She gave us the key to another chalet and said it would be the same!! Benefit of the doubt so we looked and it stank of bleach! son an dog would not go in!
Back to miserable woman on reception then she went into the office for 30 minutes. Came back and sid to go to Dawlish Sands park and we could have a caravan.
Go to Dawlish sands and there is a very smiley person called Elaine waiting for us, made sure that we tool linen with us and left us to it. She was a BIG improvement on the 1st park receptionist!
The caravan was ok. Although we did leave a day early because all our clothes were damp.
Would I ever go again...no. We are not snobs but we do like to go to clean accomodation the looks like it does on the web site."

In desperate need of an update! EXCELLENT entertainment crew!!
"Having read these reviews 2 days before we went away i was dreading getting to Golden Sands!! Upon arrival we were given our key to a chalet, it resembled a prison block from the 50's and inside was dire!! Dark, dingy and disgusting with a set of old metal bunk beds and a double bed!!! We are 4 over 40 year old adults!!!!!! Went straight back to reception where they seemed to be waiting for us to complain as they immediately upgraded us to a caravan which was slightly better. The beds in the caravan are far too short and our feet hung off the end and the twin beds were so narrow you couldnt move during the night!! Everything was well worn, old and in need of a good scrub. On the plus side the location was good with just a short stroll into dawlish warren. The entertainment staff were excellent and couldnt of been friendlier or happier, they are the real asset to the Park. The shows they put on every evening were great!! Get there early though as the place gets packed and there were people having to stand. However, the entertainment club itself is like everything else, very old, dirty and in need of updating, the chairs had stuffing hanging out and were ancient! I wouldnt go back here unless it had a complete overhaul!!"

"We booked a Bronze chalet as we had read in the Park Holidays brochure that Golden Sands was a "new park for 2009". Our party comprised myself and partner, and 3 teenagers aged 18,16 and 12, together with our dog. We assumed a "chalet that sleeps 6" would suit our requirements. How wrong!!
On arrival, my son announced that the chalets resembled " a prison block". As we opened the door, we were greeted by a foul smell and a wet patch on the "lounge" carpet. The 2-seater sofa was filthy - as there were 5 in our party, the 3 remaining people only had plastic chairs to sit on (which were stacked in a corner and reminded us of school chairs). The "bathroom" was filthy, and the "twin bedroom" comprised a wobbly, metal bunk bed which we deemed unsafe. Presumably our 18 year old was expected to sleep on the filthy, stained sofa. We did not even let the dog enter the chalet; it was too disgusting for words.
We enquired about updating our accomodation, and were sent on a 60 minute journey to an alternate park ( which incidentally was a big improvement,).
I would not recommend this park to my worst enemy - the chalets are only fit for demolition. The "Welcome Pack" included advice about the disposal of food items due to the "hungry friends present on the site"! This is not what we expected to be greeted with.
Never again - please avoid this place!"

was like living in squalor for a week
"there was aparty of 13 of us who wre lookin forward to having a break but on arival they say first impressions count our faces fell to the ground. check in was easy but on getting to the chalets they look liked they needed knocking down. we had 2 chalets on entering one it had not been cleaned and all was covered in dog hairs it took 3 days to get it properly rectified as we also had no lights no heating the outside of chalets were full of rubbish and fag ends the list was endless.
the entertainers worked hard and the kids and adults enjoyed the shows they put on this is the only plus point to the camp
the pool although is nice is too small and when it is full you cant move as it gets full with people and inflatables
the shop has all you need but closes before the time states on some days.
dawlish warren and dawlish are nice places and you could walk from the park some of our party went sea fishing from dawlish which if you enjoy fishing is recomende. crealy theme park is agood day out if you have a car use this site as a base only .
and finally if you are going to the club you need to be over there early evan if you are not with children as it gets busy and we went over just to watch the shows at 9 and you couldnt sit anywhere.
THIS SITE NEEDS A GOOD OVERHAUL AND BROUGHT UP TO DATE IT FEELS IT IS IN NEED OF UPDATING IF THIS IS DONE IT COULD TURN OUT TO BE A LOVELY PLACE TO STAY UNTIL THEN WHO KNOWS."

"i am here now with my parents and 14yr old and it's a joke. i booked a gold plus caravan and got a bronze/silver, dim lighting, door handles missing, peeling paint and fag burns in sofa. clean linen but tatty caravan. £480 this cost and i am not happy, i could tell the guys on reception were used to dishing out £50 refunds, people were queuing to complain. The repair men (nice guys) told us that people were double booked last week and had to go home. we will probably leave early. Just seen the chalets and oh my god you would not go there, think pontins 50 years ago-DON'T come here"

Dawlish (park Holidays)
"Just returned after a midweek break through the Sun holiday offers.
Got off to a terrible start.
We were booked in at Golden sands holiday park.
On arrival, we were told we were booked into a chalet.
Went to view, my wife and I just looked at one another in shock on opening the door. The rooms stunk of damp. the TV was covered in dust and the shower tray was in a terrible state with all the paint pealed off it.
We metioned at reception that this standard was not acceptable what ever we had paid for it.
They offered to send in the cleaners, a demolition team would have been more appropriate. It was like stepping back 50 years.
We finally got offered an upgrade at the sister park of Dawlish sands.Much better but we had to pay an extra £30. What a swizz!
Dawlish warren was better with some nice pubs with food available at a reasonable price. Typical sea side town.
Plenty to do and see round about, with Torquay only a 30 min ride down the coast.
This was ok for a short cheap break but too expensive for a full blown holiday. Cheaper abroad."
