10 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"We stayed for 2 nights in April 2005.The bedroom had fantastic views over Lake Windermere, but the room itself was vey small with space for a bed and little else. The television was a portable on a shelf with only a limited number of channels.
My biggest disappointment was in the restaurant. Whilst the food could not be faulted the service was so quick that course followed course without time to take a break and enjoy it. In spite of requests for slower service we were served a 4 course meal in about 40 mins."

Comfortable and quiet
"I stayed with my wife at Fayrer Garden House for two nights in a lake-view bedroom with whirlpool. The "whirlpool" was the size of an average bath-tub, and the bathroom was just large enough for two people to brush their teeth at the same time without injuring each other. The bedroom was comfortable, nicely decorated and featured two wonderful leather chairs and a small coffee table, in addition to the large bed, desk and closets. The room also featured a large TV and a radio/CD-player. In the winter the view is excellent over the lake, and some of the mountain-view towards the north could be seen as well. The cooked to order English breakfast was good, as far as English breakfast goes, and not terribly greasy. The continental breakfast was nicely presented, but quite heavy on meat and cheese. There was also a buffet with morning cereals and juices. We did not have dinner at the award-winning restaurant, since it only offered a rather luxurious and expensive set menu dinner. The service at the hotel was excellent throughout. We were lucky with the weather, but if you choose to stay in on a rainy day, the bar and comfortable lounges are a definite plus. The location is quiet, for me almost too quiet, with nice views and pleasant surroundings, including beautiful gardens, but it's necessary to have a car. We did walk once the 1,5 miles down to Bowness, but part of the way is along a dangerously narrow, dark road lined with walls on both sides, so the only way to avoid speeding cars was to press oneself up against the wall and hope the driver wouldn't come too close to the wall.
All in all, it was a very pleasant stay, the room was not very big, but clean, comfortable and pleasant. The view and the leather chairs are worth the extra 10-20 GBP a night compared to the standard rooms, but the whirlpool isn't. The service was excellent. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a quiet, decent but moderately priced hotel in beautiful surroundings."

its fantastic *****
"We have stayed at Fayrer many times, and have once again had the most enjoyable experience. Each time we stay we find it just gets better. The hotel has a new lounge area that is delightful, we look forward to the summer so we can watch the sunset over the lake.
The staff were friendly as always and gave great service, Dinner was once again exquisite using the finest local ingredients.
We would reccommend anyone to stay here, such a relaxing environment we only wish we didn't have to leave!"

"My partner and I had booked in for a two night stay at the hotel in one of the rooms with a four poster it was over £250 for the night. We only ended up staying one night because the room was so awful. The walls seemed dirty, the bed linen didn't look very fresh and both of us awoke with bites on our legs. Hence it wasn't a pleasant stay and won't be going back."

"Spent 3 very good nights here. Service and the dinners were excellent and very good value with their "Winter Warmer" offer. I accept that the breakfast was repetitive but seemed like the perfect accompaniment to the varied dinners (and great preparation for a days walking).
As soon as we can afford it we will be back"

"We've just had 4 days at Fayrer Garden House and it was excellent. Our room had a fantastic Lake view (beautiful sunsets on the turning leaves) and was spacious and generally very comfortable.
The staff were all so helpful, particularly in the Dining Room where they were mostly from overseas (Australia, Hungary, France, Argentina etc) but spoke superb English and were very obviously trained to a high standard.
Dinner could not be faulted on taste and presentation although we were ready for something simpler on our return home. The breakfasts were particularly good - lack of variety was mentioned but we found no such lack. All this and only 2 hours rain.
The Fayrer is a beautiful hotel, set in lovely grounds with magnificent views. We thoroughly recommend it."

"Just returned from 5 nights at Fayrer Garden Hotel.
Comfortable lounges and good food (although had expected more choice and imagination for breakfasts!), but really disappointed by size and rather drab decor of room we were allocated. Had high hopes of this hotel but we will not return. On a positive note, service in the dining room was excellent, it must be said."

"Been here three times now, food is amazing. Well worth paying a bit more for that extra something special. You also get to use sports facilities 2 mins away including squash court, swimming pool, sauna, gym etc. Never been disappointed with any aspect of my visits."
