"Stayed as a family group of 8 in three of the suites. Brilliant accommodation but really poor dining experience. Good food ruined. Over cooked meat, veg and positively stale roast potatoes. Fresh pineapple was brown! Cream slice not popular so seemed to be a choice every time! Other desserts straight from a catering outlet it would seem. One night we ate in Bonnettis most desserts were cream based and we asked for the Creme BrÃ»lÃ©e to be told there were none available as the supply had not come due to a problem with ferries! Cream, sugar and raspberries not available on Jersey!!! Service in the Belvedere was like being in a canteen - as soon as anyone finished a meal the plate was whipped away despite rest of family still eating. I asked for the staff to wait until we had all finished but two more waiters still removed plates. Do you not have family meals in Jersey. We would all like to come again the tennis, swimming and flow rider all really good with helpful staff - but it really is a shame to see so much food badly presented and over cooked. When you are paying over 5k for a holiday you expect a better standard of catering. JT stayed July 2015"

"we stayed at the Merton Hotel in June/July and we were so well looked after. We had stayed there in 1965 for our honeymoon and wanted to go back, what a surprise, it has really come uop to date. The staff were all so friendly and helpful, the only small grumble we had was the warmth in the bedroom, perhaps some air/con or even a small fan would have made it more comfortable. otherwise, it would be difficult to find anything to complain about."

"just returned from our second visit to the Merton. We have loved being there and found the special offers for a midweek break fantastic value for money. The staff are excellent, the food superb (well worth booking The Belvedere in advance- only 13.50 each for evening carvery if booked as half board - best value and choice ever!) The rooms are fairly plain with good cutains and bed covers but very comfortable with twin or double bed (and sometimes a bonus third bed giving a good size room) good linen, soft white towels, new pillows - one hard and one soft to cater for all types, very comfortable beds. Bathrooms a little small. The hotel is very clean in all areas. Lovely quiet areas for those who need it and good cream teas in the lobby bar. We loved the 'atrium' which allows for air, space and warmth on a cool day. We are a middle aged couple and the hotel is uniquely suited for all ages - young families as well as senior citizens and disabled clients. Although the hotel may not suit a business man looking for high tec he may appreciate the hotel for its eclectic charm and unfussy furnishings and 'Jersey Joe's' is fab. We will definitely be going to the Merton again."

Not what i expected
"Was dissapointed by the dated decor and the room was appalingly bare and noisy.
first night of stay was sleepless as i could hear pipes creaking all night throught the walls. Also pillows were very hard and thin.
requested to change room at 1am but was told to wait until the morning.

Couldn't fault the place
"Just returned from a bargain short break by sea at the Merton and could not praise it highly enough. Breakfast was fantastic with everything you could possibly want and as much as you like. Ate at Bonettis (Italian) on first day and that was superb, then ate in the hotel's Belvedere restaurant for the rest of the week as we had 10% vouchers from reception, making the cost for a meal Â£16.15 each for 4 courses and as much as you could eat. Carvery was superb, with gammon, turkey, beef, pork, pheasant, duck, Jersey Royal spuds and veg. Huge selection of cold starters, desserts to die for and a cheese selection with fruit. Excellent!!!!! Room was clean and modern with very comfy bed and good pillows and duvet and public areas were light and airy and spotless. With the pool complex over the road you would have plenty to do on a rainy day. Would recommend it to anyone and would certainly go back there. Congratulations to the Seymour family for a smashing hotel with lovely friendly staff."

Merton Hotel - Excellent Holiday hotel
"We stayed at the Merton Hotel during April 2006. The hotel was excellent. The food was outstanding value. We did not take up the H/B option before hand, but it would be well worth doing if you like to eat in the same place each night. The hotel does have 2 very good restaurants though. The staff were exceptional, very friendly and efficient. The leisure suite was very good. Indoor Pool a little dissapointing because it is very shallow - less than 1 mtr, its just a leisure pool really. The outdoor pool is brilliant and the grounds are lovely. The only critism I would say, is the rooms are fairly small - but I could live with that ! Excellent value hotel with great facilities and in good order.Definatly use it again and would recommend it."

Great last minute break
"We booked on the last minute for ourselves and our two teenagers. It was our first visit to Jersey, great island and the hotel was a nice base to return to each evening. It was approximately 15 mins. walk from the centre of St Helier through a very nice park. Slightly uphill coming back. Buses to all areas of the island can be found in St Helier.
The food was excellent with a choice for everyone and staff were friendly. The facilities including the pool, fitness centre and bars offered the chance to stay around the hotel. Bedrooms adequate, clean but ours was very warm and the window only opened a short distance.
In the evening there was entertainment, a little crowded and seating difficult to find but there was always a table available in one of the other bars.
We enjoyed it so much we are going again this summer(2006). We can recommend the Walks with Webb if you want to learn something of the island."

A Romantic Break!
"Food was excellent Â£17.50 for a three course meal (only one restaurant open in Nov).
Taxi pick up from the airport was handy as the hotel is situated on a one way complex. I don't think it would be easy to find.
The swimming pool (over the road) was good - and mostly empty. Being novemeber We didn't make much use of the outdoor pool.
Steam room was relaxing.
Room was clean and of a reasonable size although a little 'dated'.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Easy walk to the town.
Will go again."

"Stayed at the Merton hotel for 3 nights with our 2 children 7 and 9 from 23 Oct. This is our fourth stay and the hotel lived up expectations. The best aspect is the food and the high level of service provided from all the staff which is friendly and efficient. The family entertainment is excellent. Whilst we stayed there, the Kids Zone provided a Mardi Gras evening which the children performed to their parents and other guests in the Star room which seemed to keep everyone entertained. I would highly recommed this hotel for families. Improvement areas would be to update the bedrooms with air conditioning and a more contemporary feel. In summary, should you be looking for a family hotel with excellent food and above average facilities the Merton is for you, but do not tell too many people!"

Excellent value for money
"Just spent four days at the Merton. It was much above average for a 3 star hotel and excellent value for money. Staff were very friendly and helpful, public areas light and well furnished. Bedroom was exactly as their web site - orange and green decor - slightly dated look but nevertheless very clean - bathroom was spotless - good quality shower, nice white towels, comfortable bed and pillows.
Buffet breakfast and dinner - huge selection and good quality food. Although the hotel was apparently full there was no waiting for a table at any time. Entertainment was probably geared to older people but at least there was something going on.
Mostly older couples and families with children when we were there. Probably not so much suited to younger couples or people wanting a more intimate atmosphere at dinner etc. Plenty of car parking, only 20 minutes from airport, easy walking into St. Helier (through the very attractive park at the bottom of Belevedere Hill), would be happy to visit again. Probably an ideal place for the whole family, grandparents, parents and children. Pool area very attractive and garden too. The Starlight Room was a bit smokey and one of the lounges - also I think only the family rooms were non-smoking."

"A relaxing hotel for all ages. Food superb for price paid. Service excellent. We asked for a quiet room and got one. Entertainment good. The hotel has a coordinator to provide info on all aspects of walking /trips etc : He was invaluable and very helpfull (a great guy) I wouldnt hesitate in staying at the Merton again. Didnt like praising the hotel due to the expected rise in popularity. Hovever the Hotel deserves it."
