Warm, friendly atmosphere

"We have just returned from a weeks stay at this hotel, and have had one of the best hotel stays ever. A courtesy bus is run throughout the day to St Peter Port, which is about 3 miles away from the hotel, this service is excellant for those not wanting to drive. We found this very useful, especially on the days we wanted to go across to the other islands-the bus is arranged to fit in with the times of various boat trips, so you don't have to worry about finding parking places. The hotel itself is great, it is a very "hands on place" and the owners themselves are ever present, they have not been there long, and are in the process of updating the hotel. We found their friendly and helpful approach excellant, nothing was too much trouble. Unfortunately we did not eat in the restaurant, but speaking to other guests, this seemed to be very good. We had a number of bar snacks, which were excellant. We will certainly return there."

Good old-fashioned hospitality

"Le Chalet is homely with good old-fashioned hospitality and a very welcome change from so many souless hotels that put me in mind of airport departure lounges. The accommodation is very comfortable and the rooms clean. The staff are outstanding and I enjoyed consistently excellent service in every area of the hotel. The menu is varied, offering excellent choice and the food is well-presented and very appealing. Bar prices are reasonable with some very palatable house wines. The hotel occupies a secluded, quiet location. It is reached via a very steep hill but the hotel provides a regular (free) mini-bus service into town which makes it an accessible location for the less mobile/fit. The service bus stops at the top of the hill (about 300m) and this goes to/from the airport and right round the island. As I was there on an organised walking holiday, I didn't have time to avail of the leisure facilities."

Really Good Stay

"This is a really good hotel with a cracking atmosphere for all ages. It offers really good value and the staff are all really friendly. I know this is a cliche but it was true the weekend we stayed. The location is spectacular and a great base for walking etc. The hotel is really clean and a very unusual design. The restaurant is really nice and food of good standard. The bar area is also nice and the food in this part looked good as well. I think that possibly the rooms over the top of this part of the hotel could be noisy and you would be advised to ask for a quiet part of the hotel if possible. The relaxation facilities are nice but small and if there are more than 3-4 people in would appear busy, but you can often grab half an hour on your own. Its not a luxury hotel with top catering but it is much better than average that can be so disappointing"

"Le Chalet is in a wonderful location on the East coast of the island - our room had a great view down the valley to the sea, with views across to Sark. What really makes the hotel, though, are the staff. Everyone -the reception staff, the restaurant staff - especially the restaurant staff! - the chambermaids, does a really good job. Friendly, warm, efficient, polite, helpful ..you get the idea. And the restaurant manager has the greatest giggle I've heard in a long time! We thoroughly enjoyed our five day stay and wouldn't hesitate to go back."

"We did not stay at this hotel but thought we would go for a bar meal. I had been here about 15 years ago and remembered it as a lovely hotel. We parked in the lower car park and went in through a side entrance. I am sorry to say that a musty smell greeted us and the carpets in the hallway were very grubby and the wallpaper needed stripping off. We left straight away. To be fair we didn't see the reception area but the smell was enough to put us off staying."

"We recently spent 3 nights here and wished it could have been more. Le Chalet is extremely comfortable and clean and we had a huge room with views over woodland and Fermain Bay. The restaurant and lounges were very comfortable. The staff, without exception, were all very friendly and helpful and the meals were great. We ate table d'hote each night but the a la carte and bar menus looked very tempting too. Breakfast was fantastic with a huge choice, kept us going all day. I don't understand the poor reviews previously posted for Le Chalet - I stay in around 75 hotels/year on business and this has to be one of the best. I would really like to return here on holiday."

A Good Way to return to Guernsey

"My wife and I have just returned from a great holiday in Guernsey after a break of many years. We were staying at Le Chalet Hotel, and our thanks go to Richard and all of the other staff, who's names we did not get, for making our stay so enjoyable. From our late evening arrival till the day that we left, nothing was too much trouble and our room, although not having the best view, was always very well maintained by the "unseen" staff, and was quiet and peaceful. Since we decided to stay B&B so that we could sample the Island's Restaurants, we did not sample the food at Le Chalet, except for breakfast, which was exceptional in its choice of menus and variations. There too, the staff always had a smile and time for a chat ..... how do you do that at such an early hour?? Our return trip to Guernsey has reinforced our belief that we prefer its quiet uncommercialised scenery to that in the other Channel Islands that we have visited, and the crab sandwiches are out of this world!!! We also benefitted from our hire car, which enabled us to explore the very narrow lanes and byways of the island. Our thanks also to Island Getaways for arranging everything so well."

"Just returned from a perfect week at this hotel. Could not fault it in any way. Met at door by welcoming staff, cases carried to large, spotlessly clean en-suite room with warm, white fluffy towels. All staff were friendly, helpful and polite. The room was serviced efficiently every day whilst at breakfast and there was a constant supply of hot water. The dining room was a delight to be in with plenty of doting staff to serve the excellent varied menu. It was good to be able to see the daily menu posted in the morning and to have the option of the equally good bar meals. The courtesy bus into St Peter Port several times a day was very useful as was the prompt organising of a hire car.Thoroughly enjoyed using the spa pool (in which one could swim against the current) and sun terrace for which there was a plentiful supply of towels. As a fussy traveller I found the attention to detail superb and would recommend this hotel to anyone."

"We were all booked to go on a cruise with the Grand Princess due to our plane being cancelled from Montreal, Canada and then the plane which we were rerouted to delayed we missed the ship sailing from Southampton, we were advised to go to Guernsey and join the ship there the following day. We then had to travel to Gatwick fly to Guernsey and we were all under great strain as our luggage went missing and we had been filing a claim for this and then flying to Guernsey, We booked into Le Chalet Hotel and we were treated like Royalty, when we arrived the Dining room was closing but the owners held the chef back and made sure we had a good dinner, which I must say was excellent. Next morning the owners personally drove us to Condorferries to make sure that we got aboard the ship. Well what a shock we got there as the ship was unable to anchor due to weather conditions so here we are stranded again, Juliet Prevel of Condorferries then called Princess Line and advised we travel to Holyhead next Port of Call, the staff at Condor arranged our flights and a Hotel at Manchester Airport and then took us shopping for some clothes as we had nothing but what we wore. The owner of the Hotel was going to wait until all the business was settled but Juliet said she would look after us and then drop us back to Le Chalet. Back at Le Chalet we had lunch and again made more than welcome, when it was time to fly to the Airport for Manchester we were driven by the owner once again. We have never been in Guernsey but we all agree that it is one of the friendliest places we have ever been and our nightmare was softened by all the kindness shown to us. LE CHALET is a lovely friendly Hotel, good food, clean rooms and hospitality from all the staff like no other. I would recommend anyone to visit this lovely Island and stay at this Hotel. Accolades to Le Chalet and Condorferries!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS TO GUERNSEY Maisie and Frank Fowlie, Bowmanville Ontario Canada Audrey Cunningham, Montreal, Canada P.S. we are not youngsters all Seniors."

"Le Chalet is a lovely hotel with some great views. If you visit this hotel ask for a room as far away from the bar as possible. The hotel booklet says that the bar closes at midnight. It doesn't. It stays open until the last guest wants to go to bed. The noise gets progressively louder as time goes on. When we stayed there the crescendo came at 3.00 am. The owner is unwilling to do anything to curb the noise and claims that he is obliged to keep the bar open for as long as other guests want. He clearly values his profit from selling drinks above that of the welfare of his other guests. If you complain he gets very annoyed."
