A Friendly Comfortable Hotel on a Beautiful Island
"I was suprised not to find a review for The Wayside as I started going to the Holel a few years ago becaise of reviews I found elsewhere.
It seems that the hotel had had a good reputation for many years but was a little tired and in need of upgrading this has now been done over the past few years now and the hotel is getting better all the time.
We first visited in 2007 just before the hotel changed hands, the staff were excellent and I am pleased to say that they are still there today,
When we went in 2008 the bedrooms were being refurbished and by 2009 all the rooms had been finished we have just been again and the Bar has been upgraded and a new Kitchen Installed, the food has always been excellent but now as well as the great Bar Meals and Specials an All New Steak House & Grill Menu is now available,
We would reccommend going Bed and Breakfast and dining in the hotel or some of the Islands other Fine Restaurants in the evenings.
We just had a winter break but will be back in the summer when the Beach and Pool are in full use.
Theres live entertainment at weekends alll yerar round and in the Summer some one off shows.
Plenty of Parking or if using Buses they stop 100yards away"

Great place to stay on a wonderful Island
"One of our favorite places on our Europe trip was the Island of Guernsey and The Wayside Cheer Hotel.
Our stay was made special by the wonderful staff of The Wayside and a Hotel that feels homely from the minute you arrive.
The food was out of this world and the atmosphere in the Tudor Style Bar was great in the evenings,
Our room on the top floor had a partial view of the sea where we watched some of the most awesome sunsets we have seen anywhere."

Great Vacation & Excellent Value
"Just returned from a 5 day break in Guernsey which is a wonderful Island, the people are very friendly and the scenery is breathtaking on the cliffs.
We luckily chose The Wayside Cheer Hotel as our base for our stay and I don't really think we could have found better especially for the price,
The bedroom was nicer than I expected and nice and clean the hotel staff were very accommodating and we felt like friends from the minute we arrived, food was again better than one would expect in a 2 star hotel and a wide choice
The large lounge bar is a Tudor style with beams which made it cosy and we had entertainment 2 nights.
I would be very happy to stay there again"

Friendliest place we have ever stayed
"When we read some of the comments we took it with a pinch of salt, but I have to say our stay from start to finish was better than we expected.
The staff are all excellent and make sure your happy with everything from check in to check out
The food was superb and far exceeded expectations, I have not had better food anywhere even in higher grades of hotel
There was something for us to do most nights, from quizzes to dancing and relaxing in the bar or sing along with the locals.
The room was lovely and comfortable and very well maintained,
The bathroom was spacious with a good size bath and shower and the bed was better than ours at home.
Will be visiting the Wayside Cheer again soon as I have just seen some deals for the winter on their site,

Good value, clean friendly hotel
"Stayed at the Wayside for 3 nights August 2008, a last minute booking through Condorferry breaks.
Nice clean hotel. Breakfast included was great, set you up for the day. Ate one evening meal at the Wayside which was nice - roast beef dinner for £7.50.
The reception was never manned, it was a bit like a ghost town, and you always had to ring the bell to get someone, but they always came, and were pleasant.
The Latvian waiter was nice and friendly, good fun.
Good location, great value, CLEAN, newly decorated chalet rooms, oldest TV in the world - no remote and a pull button to turn it on, but we didn't go to watch the TV!!
Would return - can't say better than that eh?"

What a Difference 1 year can make
"We were so looking forward to returning as we had such a great time last year and we knew it was going to be the same again,
We could not believe in the 14 months since we were there last , just how much the place had been improoved, but without changing anything that makes the wayside special,
We stayed in one of the Chalets that overlook the Pool and Gardens, we saw them last year and they have been transformed over the winter,
They have been completly redecorated and the bathroom retiled and furniture is all new and the bed was really comfortable which for me was the best thing.
The food was as good as ever ,,but we decided this time on Donnas advice to book B & B and then we could either eat in the Restaurant or the Lounge Bar or go out which we did a couple of times.
The Bar meals are very good value and as well as the usual stuff you would expect of a bar menu, we had Lobster one night and fresh local Sea Bass another, some wonderful Steaks (Ribeye's Best) and the nicest BBQ Ribs I have ever tasted.
At weekends they had some bands playing in the ballroom which was great mainly 60s 70s music (our era) and seems well attended by the locals.
The Beach across the road is great and so handy in the summer, last time it was too cold for the beach but we used it about 4 times this year.
The only thing we did not like was leaving as we know it will be a while before we are back but WE WILL BE BACK
Thanks Donna, Paul, David and also Fergie Innes, Maureen, Yvonne, and the rest of the staff who looked afer us so well."

Great Holiday, Highly Recommended Hotel
"Had a great holiday in Guensey, and the Wayside Cheer Hotel was a dream base for it, the weather was obliging so we used the swimming pool most days and as we only booked Bed and Breakfast we sampled a few nice fish restaurants, but had some of the best meals at the Wayside.
The staff are helpful and the hotel is clean and and a good standard for 2 stars, our room was on the top floor which might be a problem for older guests but helped keep us fit and we had a partial view of the sea which was lovely.
We walked along the beach several times as its only 100 yards from the hotel and the sunsets are spectacular.
we had a great time and on Friday and Saturday there was entertainment, Friday night was a guitarist in the bar which has a small dance floor, the Saturday night there was a band in the Ballroom.
I wope we will be back again sometime"

Excellent Hotel - We will be back soon
"We had read reviews and hoped that we would have as good a time as the other reviewers well we certainly did.
When we go on holiday we want a comfortable bed, clean room, good food and friendy staff looking after us, so all I can say is the Wayside was just perfect for us.
We were greeted in the reception by David, heâs the bar man and good for a chat and a bit of a laugh he also said he does some of the evening entertainment at the weekends karaoke and disco if the live acts are not on,
The week we were there we saw 2 different guitarist/singers great nights both of them.
During the week there was line dancing in the ballroom.
The bar is really nice and as we only booked bed and breakfast we ate there most nights as it was less formal than the restaurant, the food was fantastic and really good value we also had a couple of good meals out at other restaurants.
Breakfast was also really good with a wide choice.
The room was one of the upgraded rooms as they are doing the whole hotel up and was wonderful, the bed was top class, needed a ladder to get in it (not really) but it was much higher than ours at home,
The Furniture, Carpets, Curtains and just about everything in the rooms is brand new and good quality, I believe every room will be done before the end of 2007 as nearly half are already done and the halhway all have new carpet
The Hotels location is great was not beach weather in October but in the summer theres a great beach 100 yards away,
We hired a car through the hotel was less than £200 all in for the week which we thought was good but some other guests were using the bus which stops 100 yards away and for 60p you can go anywhere they said.
You really get to know all the staff as friends and many of the locals while you are there.
The managers Paul and Donna really have a good crew working with them and they all make you so welcome.
We will be back as soon as we can get the time, as thereâs more to Guernsey that we want to see but only one place we want to stay, and thatâs The Wayside Cheer.
Thanks to Donna, Paul, David, Carla, Monica and the Kitchen Staff who fed us so well but we did not meet them so dont know there names.
And the owners Julia and Ken that we met on our last night for a wonderful holiday
SEE YOU ALL NEXT YEAR
Sally and Geoff"
