brillant holiday village

"We have recently returned from the Melas Holiday Village. 2 families (4 adults, 2 children). Must say it was a brilliant holiday. the children loved the water park which is centered by the village rooms we were in.
The food was exellently prepared but would agree it would do the waiters no harm to smile once in a while. The odd one or two were ok but it isn't something that would spoil a holiday. Mostly ate in the restaurant but late lunch of burgers, spagetti and pizza down by the main pool where animation team centered the activities. Lady down by beach also makes wraps with filling from 12-4pm which were lovely.
Watched a few of amination team entertainment at night, mostly mimed but a lot of work was put in to the productions and some good shows. We stayed for 2 weeks and during that time there were 2 evening disco's by the main pool after the show. The village also laid on a garden party by the water slides on a Saturday evening, with entertainment and lots of food which was absolutely excellent. A lot of work went in to this as we watched them setting up the tables etc whilst we sunbathed. There was also a beach party one evening.
Whilst you can go in the hotel, very late disco, you cannot dine there or obtain drinks, however there is enough in the village to keep you entertained.
The hotel/village is one the beach so very easy to walk into Side along the beach which is well worth it. It is also well positioned on the main road with bars/restaurants and shops across the road.
All in all very good holiday and would highly recommend this place."

Melas Holiday Village Good for Families

"We recently returned from the Melas Holiday Village and had a lovely time (4 adults 2 kids), weather very hot with only a slight breeze over the pool area.

The waterslides were very good for kids and adults (trouble keeping them off them) the waterslides open at 10am until 12.30pn, they open again at 2pm until 5pm, ice cream is available from 12pm until 5pm onwards (which is a life saver, can go up as many times as you like), their is a small bar situated here which only serves drinks, need to be down before 9am to get a sunbed (unless you speak nicely to the pool man he is more than happy to reserve a bed for you).

Breakfast, lunch and dinner was served in the main restaurant (waiters could do with smiling, which is more or less catered for the German's, Russians & Dutch etc) but you can get chips and pasta, you can also get lunch at the main pool were all your activities are held.

Entertainment at night was good (alot of energy is put in by the animation team) this finished at 10.15pm, the only problem with this is after the show finished their was nothing else to do (could do with having a disco) food available at 11pm for 1hr at the pool bar (which my son enjoyed)

Their was also a Hotel on site which unfortunately the people staying in the Village were unable to use, alot of cats around the pool area at night time.

If you do get fed up eating within the restaurant, there are a few good restaurants outside the hotel (The Queen & Brothers) also there is a bar straight opposite the hotel, which we frequented some nights after the show (between the barders and playpark - Yanfus) the guy at the front has a very dodgy scottish accent but he is good fun.

We ventured in Side town centre a couple of times and had a browse around the shops and a meal in Charlies overlooking the harbour.

Would recommend this hotel for families going for their first time to Turkey"

Would return to the Melas

"We have recently returned from this resort. We all had a wonderful time and our children (aged 8 and 3) cried when we left, making us promise to return.

We had a family room. This meant that we had our room with double bed and an interconnecting room for the children with two separate singles. The bathroom was nice, with a powerful shower over a bath. The balcony was a good size, overlooking the immaculate grounds. Our maid was efficient and very friendly. She came everyday and left towel art on several occasions.

As we were staying in the village part of the resort, as opposed to the hotel, we could use the main restaurant and the pool snack bar. We ate in the restaurant for breakfast and our evening meal. There was a good variety of food, which was always well-cooked. There is a salad bar, soups, choice of meats and/or fish each night, vegetables, rice, pasta, chips. Our children enjoyed the delicious desserts and there was always fresh fruit, with strawberries on occasion, as a special treat. Choice was just as good for breakfast, with cereals, different breads and croissants, pancakes, eggs (either omelettes, fried, boiled, scrambled), local sausages and meats, and much more. We could have eaten at the restaurant for lunch as well, but we preferred to go to the pool bar for snacks. This served pizza, burgers and spaghetti bolognese and salad everyday. There were two a la Carte restaurants, but we didn't try them as we were unsure that the children would like them. There is another restaurant in the hotel and a beach bar that we were not allowed to use (although hotel guests are allowed to use all the village facilities). Late night snacks are also served at the pool bar each night.

The wine is absolutely awful, we just couldn't drink it but the beer is fine. Local spirits ok too. Never saw anybody drunk in the whole two weeks.

The beach is nice, not pebbly as in some parts - we enjoyed our swims in the sea. The pools were fantastic, set in lovely surroundings. The children especially liked the aqua pool, with it's four slides and lazy river. There is a large amphitheatre where the kids disco was held and the evening shows, which were very good. The animation team are brilliant. All the facilities are well laid out, with everything being within a few minutes walk.

The majority of guests at the resort are German. In our first week we only came across one other English family. We aren't the type of family to expect everything to be geared to the British when we go away but we did find a lot of the other guests to be very rude, pushing in at the buffet queues, not giving way to small children carrying plates of food, looking the other way if you smile hello. We made a game of seeing how many people we could get to smile back at us each day.

That said, the animation team made us feel very welcome. When the children went to the mini club, the team, as a matter of course, spoke German to them but as soon as they realised that they could only speak English, switched to that with ease.

I think we will return but maybe try the hotel next time so that we can use the full range of facilities.

Oh, and finally, do not use the room telephones - we were charged about £30 for eight short calls home."

"After much searching on the internet for a good price/quality hotel, we booked our holiday at the Melas Holiday Village for a week at the end of October 2007 (we just got back).

The Melas is definitely one of the best resorts we have stayed at.
Our party consisted of parents, children and grandchildren, ranging in age from 2 to 60 and everyone had a great time.

The rooms are clean and modern. The restaurant is really excellent and all the food is freshly prepared. The sous-chefs are always walking around to check everything is ok. The staff are very friendly
and help out however they can. There is a guest relations person called Nora who speaks Dutch, German, Turkish and English and she is really very helpful.

The beach is right on the doorstep and is very clean, with fresh drinks on hand. The mini-club is great for the kids.

Basically, we had a really great time at the Melas Village and would definitely recommend it to anyone."

Fantastic Holdiay Experience

"Our family of five, with children aged 13, 11 and 5 have just returned from the Melas Holiday Village and we enjoyed a fantastic holiday. The hotel service, food, animation, beach, pools and rooms were superb. We were a little unsure of what to expect given the wide range of reviews of Turkish hotels on various travel sites. The Melas was highly rated on both this site and several others that I had reviewed. The reviews were right on the money as this is a great resort.

We arrived on a Sunday and were treated to drinks at the bar and lunch while the staff prepared our apartment. The apartment was well appropriated with a refrigerator, two separate sleeping rooms and a modern bathroom. The only minor downside is that the apartment was a little small for five persons and there was not a full table on the balcony which would have been nice for playing games. These are minor points however, and our apartment was very comfortable. The hotel maid Fatima kept the room spotless and was very friendly.

The hotel grounds are kept in immaculate condition and are very lush. The grounds are covered in mature palm trees and other fauna “very nice”. The food was very good and included a nice variety of different dishes. You can also get pizza and burger by the pool and pancakes on the beach. Breakfast includes fresh omelets and the fruit and desserts are excellent. The beach and swimming pools are really nice. The beach in particular was nice with a wide sandy beach and clear water that was great for swimming. One downside was there is no lifeguard at the pool or beach so watch your kids. There is a swimming area marked out at the beach and the water depth is not over 160 centimeters in the sea or pools.

The hotels strongest point was the excellent staff and service. The animation team did a great job. The performances were surprisingly good and varied. They managed to perform everything thing from off Broadway to traditional Turkish Folk Dancing. Even the comedy was good. The mini disco involved all of the kids and they all seemed to enjoy it. The mini club was excellent and my five year old really enjoyed her activities. I want to especially thank Kemal, Atta and the four young ladies who work for their efforts.

We were the only English speaking family staying at the hotel that I know of. We always felt welcome and I personally did not find any of the other guests to be intrusive to include the Russians. It does help to speak a little German and not all the staff is proficient in English. That said communicating overall was not a problem. This hotel seems to be geared more toward families and elderly guests so perhaps that may explain why the guests were considerate overall.

We defiantly will stay at this hotel again and are planning to book again next summer. Turkey is a spectacular country with many things to see and do. One week just is not enough time to explore the Anatolian region. We will plan on 14 days next time around."

Relaxing Holiday

"The hotel is definitely 5*. It is extremely clean and the food was excellent. There are several places to eat and all very good.
The daytime activities were ok, however my children (15 and 12) would have been bored with the entertainment had they not made friends.
The evening entertainment was poor. It finished at about 10.30. The disco opened at 11.00, but no atmosphere as noone ever went! The shows were ok but finished far too early and we were left with nothing to do.
Even though the hotel was excellent, i wouldnt go again purely because of the lack of entertainment. So its a good job we were happy to have a relaxing holiday!!"

Best Holiday i have ever been on!

"Just yesterday i came back from my holiday at Melas Holiday Village. I must say, i have been on some pretty impressive holidays but this has got to be the best by far! I spent two weeks with my family, my mum my dad and my little sister, 12.

When we got there the staff were so friendly and just made you feel completely welcome.

There are three main pools in the village, the biggest one is were the animation team play games and entertain you throughtout the day.
The second pool is a little bit smaller and gets alot of sun, great if you want a tan. Beside it is also a small baby-pool.
Both of these have a lovely sea view.
The third pool is on the other side of the complex and is a water park with four waterslides and a lazy river.

Proberley the best part of my holiday was the entertainment. This is down to the Amimation Team. They are exellent! My sister and i were entertained for most of the day with pool games that the team put on and other games and activities such as Darts, Water Polo, Volleyball, Football, Dance, Step arobics, water gym and many more!

There are two kid clubs. A mini club for young children and and a maxi club for teenagers. Each had activities for each club.

Personally i loved the evening entertainment, they provide entertainment for both children and adults. Almost every evening a children's disco would take place at 8:30 at the ampitheatre. This would then be followed by a show performed by the Animation team. These would be performed to a very high standard and keeps the audience involved and enteratained.
Some evenings the team would out on pool and beach parties which were a great way to join in, meet new people and have a great time.

I can't express what a great team the 2007 Animation team actually are, so friendly and always smiling and just make you feel happy all the time, they are full of conversation and their main priority is that you really get the most of your holiday.

I hope to go back next year, it really is worth the money."

loved melas

"We have just returned from Melas this morning and would definately recommend it. Absolutely fantastic! There were 5 of us in our party, ages ranging from 12 to 63. My 12 year old son was entertained all day long by the animation team who were all so friendly. Lots to do or you can just relax by one of the pools or on the private beach. The food was excellent and plentiful.Everywhere was extremely clean. All in all Melas was a great place to stay and we will definately be going back!"

Best Hotel and Beleive me, I'm fussy

"We have been to Turkey 7 times but found this resort to be the cleanest and all round best thus far.We went mid 2 weeks sept 2004. Was extremely hot. Was interesting to have large digital readout of temperature in pool area. Cart d'or icecream served freely 12 till 6pm to all (not just kids). Food fabulous. Dancing shows performed by animation team superb. Can't say same for comedy shows- Brits would cringe in embarrasment at sketches of adults pretending to be babies etc- but the germans loved it. Have to say that normally get on great with germans but these were a miserable lot and the Russians were rude and unfriendly, Still nothing could stop us enjoying the food, views, friendly staff etc. We would reccomend this resort to anyone."
