"My husband and I, along with our 2 friends, spent 2 weeks in the Asteria Sorgun, Side, Turkey through Thomas Cook. From the minute we arrived at 4am, we realised we were in for a fantastic time as bell boy took our suitcases up to our rooms while we were offered something to eat and drink. The reception staff spoke good enough English to understand. We were on the first floor but our friends were on the 3rd floor. Next morning, we asked if it would be at all possible to move rooms to the first floor for personal reasons, and the reception staff immediately sorted out the move for the next morning, putting my friends into the room next to us. No fuss or questions, only apologies that we would have to wait until the next morning, which we were more than happy to do. The rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean and had a minibar in the filled with soft drinks that were replenished each day. A digital safe was also in each room, included in the price as was a hair dryer and air conditioning. The maid came in every day with fresh towels if you wanted them and left a 3 day weather forecast for you and a small box with 2 pieces of Turkish delight in them. Our maid also left us a spare hand towel made into the shape of a swan, a really lovely touch. You received a towel card for the pool and beach and you could change them everyday if you wished. Breakfast was from 7 – 11 am. There were 3 bars outside that all served buffet lunches from 12.30 – 3 pm and the main restaurant served lunch 12.00 – 2 pm. The pier bar was open 10 – 6pm, beach bar 10 – 8 pm, pool bar 10 – midnight and the lobby bar, inside and air conditioned was open 24 hrs. Evening meal 7 – 9.30 pm. In addition to this, ice cream 12.30 – 4 pm, waffles 4-5 pm, tea & cakes 4-5pm, traditional pancakes made while you waited 12.30 – 4pm, candy floss and popcorn 9 – 9.30 pm. Snacks in the main restaurant 11pm till midnight. It was a hard job to make sure you hadn’t missed out on anything as there was so much to cram in!! The food was in abundance with variety at all times wherever you ate. There are also 3 Al la Carte, Italian, Turkish & Fish, you could choose 1 per week you stayed and booked them that morning. These were great as well. There was constant entertainment through the day and evening by the animation staff who worked incredibly hard and were a great laugh. There were sun beds around the pool, in the gardens, on the beach and on the pier, all with plenty of shade provided by parasols and palm & banana trees. The entire hotel was constantly being cleaned and cleared so that where ever you sat, inside or out, there was never rubbish about. Every member of staff could not do enough for you. The reception staff even organised some paracetamol to be delivered up from the pharmacy for my husband who had tooth ache, free delivery, within 15 minutes of me approaching them. In the hotel, there was a spa, gym, hair dressers, optician, photographers and shops selling clothes, bags, shoes, jewellery, gifts and general things such as cigarettes and smellies etc. On the beach, there were water sports which you had to pay for. Everything was priced up in Euro but they soon converted prices to Turkish Lira.
This is the first year Thomas Cook has used this hotel. It was mainly other nationalities there but this didn’t bother us at all. The Rep, Demi, was lovely. She didn’t push the excursions onto you at all. She was in the foyer each day for any problems but to be honest with you, there were no problems what so ever so we went along to have a chat and tell her what a great holiday we were having. I would definitely recommend this hotel and I would grade it 5*+, so much so that we are going back next year and taking our families with us. We had the best holiday ever, just chilling out. There was no need to leave the complex unless you wanted to go to Side to look at the ruins or go to the markets.
