new fridge but can't use it
"ive just had 2 weeks at the re-named musti's royal plaza .after the previous reports i went with an open mind.after getting 2 my room it was ok and the fridge is hidden under the tv.the staff are quite helpful trying to bring you cold drinks alday ,but aslo watching that you havent brought your own around the pool. the main problem with the hotel is that were askin 2 look in ur bag to make sure that you wernt takin any food or drink up to ur room ,to put in the brand new fridge .they cleaned the rooms every day but as for changing the bed sheets ? you can eat and drink in lots of places which are far cheaper close by. my holiday was ok but musti thinks english are cows and he wantsto milk every penny you have got. was worst than faulty towers
"Most be the worst hotel we have ever stayed. On arrival we was told hotel full as did nearly everyone. We was told we had to stay in sister hotel for 1-3 nights which was a 3 star but most be a nightmare if you had young children because Hotel HERMES the sister hotel had no water in pool not been in use for 3 years just open because the owner who owns the pair and another had doubled book everyone. The reception staff understands very good English until you have a problem. Hotel manager when we got there had been up 3 days with no sleep and goes into hiding. Breakfast is not worth eating we went out after the first morning after one mouthful we went to the royal plaza hotel as the was no food in the Hermes as there was just one member of staff to give you you key. So we would never stay there again, would go back to Marmaris again as it was our 2ND time there, the buses were very good and cheap the food was good outside the hotel. We went to a restaurant and pub called the star its located turn right when you step out side you hotel and fist right past mustits and its about 100 yds on the left its run by 5 brothers and the food is to die for. Buy one get on free on drinks and food is very cheap "

Not that bad!!
"I have been reading the various reviews on here and whilst I can empathise with what most of the fellow reviewers have to say about the Royal Plaza I do feel that perhaps they are being a little harsh! It is really NOT THAT BAD! Ok, its not a 4 Star as we know them, ok, the hotel has seen better days (havent we all?), but the staff are nice, the pool is lovely, and the sheets and towels were changed regulary. Is there much more required of a cheap summer break? We booked quite last minute so perhaps thats why we were more easily pleased than others but I have to say we have no complaints. The area of Armutalan is brilliantly serviced by the little minibuses (dolmus), directly opposite the hotel. You can anywhere on them! The area itself is quiet and more family orientated than Marmaris, which suited us fine. Also, it gave us a welsome relief from all the hassle of the local traders! One local place we would recommend is Nostradamus travel, situated directly under the hotel itself. Theres an English girl called Katie & a Turkish guy called Tommy who run the place and they really really helped to make our holiday special. They gave us limitless advice, lots of laughs, fabulous trips, and even sowed my button on! Could we ask for more? Make sure you save time for the Dalyan excursion, its a must. We sure historic tombs, beautiful natural beaches, baby turtles and had plenty of fun in the mud! Also got over my fear of the sea, and finally got to experience Diving, something Ive always wanted to do. The Diving staff were so kind and patient with us, and we even have the DVD to relive it all over again. Oh, and of course, make sure you have their TURKISH BATH! Its kind of a law out there! Get it on your first day to ensure a nice even tan, and to hopefully stop you burning. The Plaza served Turkish breakfast, which basically consists of hard boiled eggs, cold meats, cheeses and salads. If you know what to expect then its NOT SO BAD! We ate at some really nice places, Violets, O'Yes, Meeting Place and LeKebab, to name just a few locally. If you get the bus into town then try Uno Momento for Italian or Al Abi for lovely Turkish. If you have a special occasion then I would definately recommed Pinapple, its based in the Netsel part of the Marina, just over the little wooded bridge that you come to if you walk the whole way along the Marina, just before you turn the corner into Bar Street. Bar street was worth at look, but make sure you have deep pockets as its pretty pricey! Oh, and book Talk of the Town with Katie for a fab night out, drag show on the beach front, meal & first drink free and lots of saucy humour! We ended most nights with a nightcap at the poolside bar. The Plaza staff are aware that their hotel is not the best in the business, but they are kind and genuine and we would definately stay there again. Happy holidays!"

"Jus come back from a week at the royal plaza hotel in marmaris. When we pulled up outside the hotel we both felt sorry for the people having to stay here as it looked very run down and very far from the resort itself and the beach. When our names were called we were devistated to say the least!! When we checked in we were told that we were the only couple there but were assured that the they were expecting more guests! When we got to the room the little fridge which was the size of a mini bar wasnt working - 3 days later we had it fixed! As others were checking in to the hotel during the week we soon found out that their fridges and air con didnt work in other rooms. On our first day we went down to the pool to have a swim until we saw that it hadnt been cleaned and was full of insects and dirt! We went down the road to use another hotel's pool and facilities. On arrival back at the hotel they had cleaned it all up and it got cleaner evereyday. As the week went on and local people asked us where we were staying as soon as we said the royal plaza the look on their faces said it all.... they told us that the hotel had been closed during 2008 which makes sense as there are no reviews on here after 2007!! All the staff at the hotel are very friendly and do their best to help in every way! You will soon find out who Manuel is!!! haha he is lovely - his job involves doing everything there bless him! if you call him Manuel he will be smiling!! Micky and Tori at the pool bar are also lovely and will help you a lot. The blue bus across the road to the hotel runs into the centre of Marmaris every 5mins for 1.25lira which you will probably need regularly. I'm sure the hotel will get better as the season continues as they have only just opened last week when we checked in so dont be put off if youve booked it... you get what you pay for! We had a good deal so cant really complain. The staff will make up for the hotel."

"we got the family room and its bigger than my house, granted i live in a two bed terrace but still it's huge. its also really cool as it doesnt get any sun. the breakfast was rank but theres so many other places doing breaky thats no problem unless your'e too tight to let go of £1 as far as restaurants go there is one on the way into town about two minutes from the hotel with a waitor called batman and that was by far the best place we ate all week, ended up going 5 times, and if you just want a quick snack theres a kebab shop/takeaway next door doing chicken kebabs for £1 and that was by faaaaaaaarrr the best takeout kebab i've ever eaten and imagine ever will. loved the place would go back, am actually trying to find a holiday there at the mo. also i read some negative things about the receptionists, well in my experience they were awesome, there is no way you would ever get a brit being so polite and helpful, granted they don't ALL speak English (some do, and even the ones that don't you can gesture and get your point across provided that you're not incompetent) but, and here's the shocking part, Turkey isn't in England so why don't you learn Turkish i'm sure if a Turk came here they wouldn't expect us to speak Turkish."

"I have just got back from a holiday with my fiancé in turkey at the Royal Plaza hotel. I can honestly say I am someone with very high standards and I found the Royal Plaza a brilliant place to stay. The rooms were basic with the amenities, we had a fridge situated in a cupboard in the dressing table which we found quite nifty. The air con was fabulous at only £35 for a full week and safety deposit boxes were also available for a week at just £14. The reception and general look of the hotel is lovely. The pool is gorgeous, its big and deep and great for cooling off in or doing a bit of exercise. The pool bar is just as good situated next to the pool the staff there are one of a kind, we loved them all and I myself was sobbing when we had to leave, Sylvia,Pedro,Ali and Jimmy were all brilliant and made our holiday what it was. They were friendly and genuine and we are going back next year this time for 3 weeks as we found one week just wasnât enough especially when you meet such wonderful people and score with such a lovely hotel. The food from the pool bar is cheap and delicious. I would recommend the royal plaza to anyone, young or old there is something for everyone and In our opinion it was one of if not THE best holidays we have ever been on."

"My partner and really enjoyed the location of the Plaza as it is about two miles from the hassle of the busy Marmaris front. The Dolmus station is opposite the hotel and the member of Dolmus will take you to Mamaris market on a Thursday, the number 2 will take you to the old town and the number 3 takes you right into the centre all for 40p. If you want to go to Icmeler market on a Wednesday you have to get a number 3 (60p) then get an orange Dolmus on the main road. The staff were great in the Plaza. Sylvia and Pedro were very welcoming and would always have time for everyone. We didn't have children with us and even though there were a handful of kids there, this hotel isn't really suitable for kids. That's why we had picked it! The Plaza has the best sunbathing terrace in Turkey. There was sun there all day, never in the shade if you're a sun worshipper. The sun beds were a bit of a problem the two weeks we were there. We refused on principle to put towels on the beds but unfortunately others didn't think the same and some must have been up at 5 to place their towels! (Even if they were off out for the morning). If you want a simple hotel, a base which is cheap and cheerful, with friendly staff, and a quieter location then the Royal plaza is for you. "

"Ok where do I start! We arrived at the Royal Plaza and the reception was helpful and check in was straight forward, then we got shown to our room. We had great views from the balcony but if you are expecting a 4* room you will be greatly disappointed. The best comment I heard from other guests was that 'the furniture looked like it had been put together with a spirit level from the pound shop' which is true and it all looks really old!! There were bare wires hanging from the ceiling and from behind the bedside table and be sure to take care of the fuse box in the wardrobe! The shower was pretty good but don't expect to have a bath, also the Air con was not cold and mysteriously went off in the middle of the night whilst you were asleep. If this were a hotel in England it would be pushing 2*, god knows what the manager had to do to get the extra stars. If you like to lie in, in the morning on your holiday you might like to know about the man from the mosque just over the road that prays through a microphone at 5am. We went down for breakfast on the first morning and letâs just say we didn't go again for the rest of our holiday. The maid service was pretty poor, even though they came into the room every day they just folded what looked to be the old towels back up again and put them back on the bed... The best thing about the hotel was the pool. If it wasn't for the pool we would have requested a different hotel. It was always clean and its quite big compared to others in the area, it has a pool side bar which is really nice to sit at when you come back from town at night with a cold beer. The pool side staff were also really nice and helpful and always made us laugh. The location of the hotel was pretty good with the bus stop just across the road which takes you right in to the heart of Marmaris, plus itâs really cheap about 40p I think. It has a great bar just over the road called Musti's, which has good entertainment at night and the staff are really nice (Watch out for the Magic Man, he's great)... All in all we had a great time away from the hotel. We went on a really good boat trip and recommend you do the Turkish bath. We also met some really nice people whom which were going to keep in touch with and probably would go back, but not to this hotel."

After being moved from the awful sister ...
"After being moved from the awful sister hotel, three doors away 'The Hermes' I was in need of some reassurance that my holiday was going to be all that I hoped for! THE HOTEL: ROOMS- Well, the rooms are basic but they are clean. I would say the cleaner could do a better job and I did invest in a bottle of bleach to clean the bathroom but that's because I am a clean freak not because it was terrible!! They didn't change the towels or bed sheets as often as they should but the cleaner trolleys were always left unattended the whole day so I always grabbed a couple of clean towels each day and left them in my suitcase!! BREAKFAST- The breakfast was again basic but nice. Tea, coffee, juice, milk, fresh bread (lovely), jams, honey etc, cereal, eggs, ham/salami, olives and cheese. It is a buffet, so you can fill yourself up on things you do like. We only ate our evening meal in the hotel once but it was very nice and very cheap for the size of the portions. THE POOL- The pool is massive and very very clean. They have a strict no using towels to reserve lots of sun beds policy which was great, but there was always more than enough. There is a great raised terrace too if you prefer to be away from the pool. THE STAFF- They need a special mention especially Ali (aka Micheal Jackson - he did some shows) and Sylvia the bar manager. She is absolutely wonderful and although we didnât have kids with us they all made such a fuss of any of the children and really looked out for them. THE LOCATION- Great location, bus station (if you can call it that!) right ops hotel and never waited longer than 3 mins for bus, which is about 60p to the town of Marmaris (5 mins on bus) Get the number 3 if possible as takes you directly to the place to be!! RECOMMENDATIONS- Violets across the road from the hotel is excellent. So friendly and the food is amazing. Would recommend the spag bol, fruit salad which is gorgeous and burgers. On the beach front if you get the bus to the Point Shopping centre (ask the driver) and walk towards beach turn right and you will come to a peir restaurant called Ha Na which is part of a five star hotel, this is the best place to eat ever - its not too expensive and is very romantic - each table it lit by a lamp and the waiter service is out of this world. Also, if you turn left rather than right at the beach front there is a restaurant called 'Oh Yes' the food here is amazing too. The service is a little slow but relax and enjoy the cuisine, everything is gorgeous the lasagne especially, it is huge and is homemade in a massive terracotta bowl!! THINGS TO DO: We went to the water park which is situated on the beach front and although it was fun it is not as safe as you might like for children, with kids and water everywhere and Imean everywhere it is a bit manic to the say the least. The cafe there if also 'Oh Yes' and the food is great. Shopping - the fake designer handbags are everywhere but actually look very authentic and are made with real leather. Get ready to Bartar! Hope this is review is of use, have fun! "

"Myself and my husband have just come back from staying at the Royal Plaza Hotel. We were very disappointed with the so called 4 star rating that was given to the hotel. It is a very dated hotel with rooms that have been thrown together and furniture that is broken or is put on the wrong way round. The maid service was extremely poor and we had to request that our towels and bath mat were changed after a week of being there. The receptionist didnât speak any English which was difficult, but the staff around the pool were really friendly. On a plus side the pool was very clean and large enough for everyone to relax in, with plenty of loungers for guests also. The view from our balcony was amazing, we could see the whole of Marmaris, and the sun was on there the whole day. There is a really good pub opposite called Musti's. The staff are very friendly and a good laugh. On the whole Marmaris is a lovely place to go for a holiday, the people you meet are lovely and the food is good (although not at the hotel), it was just a shame that the hotel didnât live up to the standard that we were expecting - but the bed was comfy and it was a place to sleep and get changed in, which was sufficient.
