elegant hotel good craic!
"Stayed at the Elegant hotel July 09. Arrived approx 5am and we were greeted by two lads that helped us with our luggage. The place is very simple, clean, basic but very tidy.
We were a bit uneasy at the start of how friendly the hotel personnel where, but we got used to them very quickly and got settled in.
With this hotel u get what u pay for, its cheap with no kitchen, fridge or TV but u dont go on holidays to stay in ur room!! Your not allowed to bring anything into your room as well (but how will they ever know-we did)
The food is nice, the atmosphere nice and with it being small not only are the rooms close to the pool but every1 gets to know every1. We met some really good people from GLasgow and Donegal. Its close to the beach and bars to which is good. Drink prices are resonable but make sure and settle ur tab b4 going to bed cuz it can accumulate very fast and b4 u know it u owe them a fortune.
Downside is there is no entertainment but some hotels over there are very strict about music licensing etc.Overall really enjoyed the hotel,The staff were really friendly and good craic with good english and would always be willing to help!! marmaris has that much to do, a hotel shud only b used for a roof when u land back drunk at 4am!!

"After moving from the Selen Hotel which was a complete dump we moved in the Elegance on our first night in Marmaris , it lived up to its name , beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean , the reception and lounge areas were well furnished and the bedrooms also well furnished and spacious , we had a couple of things that were not working properly , but a quick call to reception and they were very quick to put things right . maybe my husband and me a fussy but i though the food was a bit of a let down , not much choice at dinner and no bacon at breakfast , when i asked about bacon the waiter looked totally confused , my feeling was that the hotel seemed to cater more for the Russians , the hotel seemed to have a lot more of russians and not too many english , it,s a shame that such a beautifull hotel as the Elegance was situated next to a scruffy grassy area"

"we have just returned from a fantastic holiday at the elegant hotel in marmaris, turkey.
The hotel was great, the rooms were clean and tidy, but basic, that is due to it only being a 2* rating. we have stayed in alot worse. the staff were excellent, especially TOMMY (BARMAN, WAITER ETC) he worked all day without complaining.
The food was good, but the set meals on the halfboard basis were not fantastic (chicken all the time).
we will booking again in the future. THANKS GUYS!!!"

"As Miss Anna said, water is extra which is really so stupid from the hotel and two single beds together means double bed!!
further more, bar is open from 11 am - 11 pm; before and after that time, any drink is extra. water inside the hotel is sold by 2 turkish lira where at the migros (supermarket) they sell it for .75 lira!!

"I stayed at Elegant hotel for 2 weeks, Iâve been to Marmaris 3 times, and really love it the people at Elegant hotel are really nice.
But a few things should know about the place are:
Do not leave any money in your room as I had mine stolen! If you get anything at the bar (food or drinks) pay for it at the time, because they run up huge bills and in the end you donât even know what youâre paying 100s of lira for! Donât believe the prices on the menu because they look very different on your bills!
When you take a shower expect either freezing cold water or scolding hot! If you want any peace in the day go down the beach or something!
When you leave to go out in the night RUN - as they donât like you not having drinks in the hotel!
Donât take any food into the hotel as they feel they have the right to confiscate it if you do!
Do not use the hotel room phone, use it once and they try saying you've been phoning random numbers for the whole 2 weeks!
If thereâs an extra bed in your room expect a phone call at 7 in the morning 1 day asking you to get up and change rooms!
And there idea of a Sunday dinner is corned beef, washing up liquid flavour roast potatoes (which are not roasted), hard veg, and cold watery gravy which they take 17 lira off you for!
But do not let this put you off Marmaris as itâs a great place, not all hotels are like this Iâm def going back next year but wonât be staying at the "Elegant Hotel"!!"

"I returned today from Marmaris. The first time in Turkey.
Each year I travel at least once a year. Mostly in Europe. But such terrible service I have ever seen. And the great disappointment is because I have chosen one of the most good hotels of Marmaris - Elegance hotel (5*).
Disappointment is in each area of service.
The food is not good and even spoiled . According to the rules of the hotel the guests are not allowed to bring any water or food. I can understand the reason of forbidding to bring any food - but water - stupid rule and stupid way to try to get more money from the guests of the hotel.
At the dinner there is no water - according to the explanation of manager - "water is extra" - the basic product in the warm country where the weather is hot and people suppose to drink at least 1.5 litre of water - the water is extra.!!
The management of the hotel is not going to solve any problems in the time. We had a big problem with the shower and after checking the room and revealing that we tell the truth - there is no way to get the shower (no glass curtain in the bathroom) we had to beg to get another room.
Our friends booked the room with the double bed - but there are no double beds in the hotel, according to the managers speech, all the beds are standard ( two single beds together means double bed?).
Smoke is everywhere - lobby is full of smoke, there is no special area for smoking.
Smoke asa you wish!
It was my worst vacation, so I don't recommend to stay in this 5* hotel, the level of this hotel is 3-4*.
The modern design and two swimming pools may be nice and nominally make it 5*."

"Just to let you all know, I stayed at the elegant hotel last year. It was a nice pleasant family hotel with a lovely pool and bar area.
The walk to the beach was about five minutes and is pretty much in the centre of the bay. The hotel was clean and the room was surprisingly pleasant. Staff were reasonably pleasant although the neighbours can complain if there was noise after around twelve.
The reception staff were lovely and also the maids. We made friends with a lot of the local people who we've stayed in contact with since. The hotel is around 95% English custom and I would advise to venture out to other local bars along the sea front rather than staying at the hotel (which was encouraged).
DON'T book excursions with your rep, there are really cheap travel places all along the front that often throw in a Turkish bath if you book another trip. Go along to the harbour at around 9.45 to catch an extremely cheap boat trip last minute- often they are not full and you can get an all day cruise for around five pounds including lunch.
Girls... beware of the taxi drivers, I had a near miss experience and would always sit in the front seat. Donât let this put you off though, the people are wonderful and will generally do anything for you!
Just booked again for September. "

"Just arrived back yesterday from Marmaris and was staying at the Elegant.
Apartments are nice food is excellent staff are very nice the pool is a reasonable size enough even when busy, you will get the sun up until 6pm from early morning the best sunbeds to have is the corner to the right of the front entrance.
You are 5 mins from the beach front with many restaurants nearby, some of the best I would recommend is Beverly Hills, Portofinoâs, Andyâs bar (next door to Portofinoâs) Charlie's bar across from the elegant down the footpath heading 4 beach 2 mins away.
Turkish bath is a must when in turkey also diving trip and water park if you have kids and even if not, cause there is plenty sun beds to relax and as it is at the beach you get the sun all round.
Be careful who you book tours with as many are not insured one, I strongly recommend is Nico he can be found as you walk to the beach front past Charlieâs bar on right hand side itâs a straight road and he has a desk that sits on the left hand side as you get to the beach tell him Angela and Billy sent you he will do you the best deal.
The only downfall I would say about the Elegant is that they donât allow you to take anything up to your rooms. We were only bed and breakfast but weren't even allowed a bottle of water in our room unless it was bought from the bar, but at the same time staff was very apologetic about this.
We had a wonderful holiday so much so I am already looking to book for next year."

Loved this hotel BUT!!!
"We stayed at the Elegance from the 23rd to 31st July 2007. Our party consisted of 2 adults and 3 children aged 10, 11 and 15. Hotel room are very clean and nicely decorated but, do not have any tea making facilities. Reception staff are occasionally not helpful. Hotel has 2 pools BUT both restricted to 6pm. Temp still high in the evening (27 to 29 degrees) so could not get to cool off if shopping during the day!!. Breakfast is typical turkish so dont expect beanz on toast!!. We were Half board, but did enjoy the evening meal as plenty of variety to choose from. Oh and if you dont fancy using the drinks from the mini bar in the room. You will NOT be allowed to bring snacks or drinks from outside!! Hotel has roof top bar and 2/3 lovely restaurants, but they are expensive to eat in f you like your alcoholoic drinks. Eating out might be an option! Try FREINDS nearby. They serve full ENGLISH breakfast yum!! Hotel is very clean. Shops and restaurants withinin a few feet!!!! Hotel did not have much
real entertainment for children, however do have night entertainment and disco at times. TRY adjacant hotels for night life!!! a must! Overall, I loved the hotel but, the STAFF are a real let down. TIP: buy a decent site map!!! And book any excursions outside of the hotel if you can as their Public Relations Office doesnt offer much choice. Most excursions are insured , but be careful. Plenty to do and eat so dont worry if your a water sports person. Most will offer boat rides and trip to Rhodes!!! Enjoy, I will go back to marmaris again, as the locals are very lively and fun to be with!! Beautiful, Extravagant site!! Bye Parveen xxx"

Lovely hotel - expensive drinks - Good resort
"We stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks from the 25th May - 08th June 2007. The hotel is smaller in comparison to other 5 star hotels in the resort, but this does not mean that it lacks in style etc...
My room was on the 1st floor with a Garden view (situated above the childrens play area) - and at no point during our stay did we have any noise problems (except on the final day when some essential maintenance work was taking place and drilling had to be done), although I am sure that anyone with a pool view room would have experienced problems as one of the restaurants/bars next door usually plays music until around midnight.
Facilities - The hotel has 2 lovely pool areas - there was never any problems getting a sunbathing spot and at times found we had the pool to ourselves which was lovely. If you prefer a quieter sunbath the pool with the water feature was lovely and peaceful (although the bar area around this pool was not open during my stay) while the pool near the beach front tended to be a little livelier due to the outdoor eating, open bar and DJ (although the tunes were mellow during the day). The hotel has an envious decked pier area where by day you can laze around on huge comfy pillows and mattresses which by night turns into a lovely 5* candlelit restaurant area. We ate there one night and the food was delicious and the service of a very high standard (ladies are offered pachminas to keep them warm if it gets cold in the evenings). The hotel also serves meals around the sea facing pool area and the food is absolutely faultless, prices are very cheap in comparison to UK - a pasta dish costing around £4 - £5, although you can get cheaper meals out and about around Marmaris.
The Food - We were on a half board basis. Breakfast consists of mushy scrambled eggs, soft and hard boiled eggs, Omlettes, Sauteed potatoes, Pancakes, Cheese, Turkey/Salami slices, Cereal, fruit and breads/pastries. Tea, Coffee and fruit cordials were free and you could buy freshly squeezed Orange juice for 4YTL (just less than £2) per glass, which I thought was pricey. Evening meal usually consisted of a Pasta dish, a meat dish, Rice, Salad and desserts. My main criticism was that there was not enough choice at all and for fussy eaters or children this could be a problem. Drinks at this hotel were very pricey and the hotel will not allow you to bring your own onto the premesis (our bottles of water from the local supermarket were confiscated from us).
All in all - The hotel is lovely, the drinks are pricey and the system they use for purchasing drinks/food (a tab system where everything is charged to your room and paid for at the end of your stay) can be dangerous! It could be very easy to overspend and for other people to charge things to your room no so please make sure you keep all your receipts. The mini bar in the room is also expensive so beware of that! Some of the staff at the hotel aren't very friendly (usually the front desk staff) and there are hidden costs to certain facilities - such as the Playstation. We were stung on this and the girl who runs this facility (who works in the jewellers) overcharged our son for using this (saying he has spent 3 hours on there) which was completely untrue. When she was challenged about this she was extremely rude and argumentative although the hairdresser in the hotel came to our rescue and tried his best to sort this out for us. In the end we paid up (only £7) but it was more about principal.
Mentioning the hairdresser - he was fantastic, but hidden away and never as busy as he should have been. My partner had a Turkish shave about 5 times over the holiday from the hotel hairdresser and a couple of haircuts - the prices were very cheap (he is also fabulous for straightening hair without the need for GHD's!).....
Would I return? Yes. Regardless of the bits of odd jobs going on, and a few ignorant staff the positives outweigh this. The hotel is in a quiet location and it is a nice stroll into the livelier area which is nice as your not stuck in the thick of it.
If you go - please do some of the trips. Boat trips around £10 for a full day including lunch which were lovely and relaxing, but make sure you shop around as some of the agents do try to overcharge you. We visited all 3 Aqua Parks in the area and paid £24 for the one in the mountains, £20 for the one on the beach front and £18 for the one near the Mosque (this price was for 2 adults and 1 child), although the one near the mosque is not as good as the other 2.
Eating out - If you like Indian food make sure you visit the Taj Mahal restaurant and the Mandarin for Chinese which is owned by the same people and in the same building. The food and service are first class and a 4 course meal for 2 including a bottle of wine would set you back at 32 YTL which equates to around £13 - this at both the Chinese and the Indian.
Changing Money - Cash machines are everywhere and I got around 2.5 YTL to the £1. The foreign exchange shops don't usually have a very good exchange rate so be careful of this. But saying all that we paid English money everywhere and for everything, the Turkish people are happy for you to pay this way and will ask if you want change in Lira or in sterling (even on the markets) - which is great.
Travel - Dolmus buses run through Marmaris, the orange ones run through to Icemeler and cost 1.75 YTL (about 65p) and the aqua coloured ones stop before Icemeler and cost 1.25 YTL (50p). Taxis are expensive in comparison to Dolmus buses and transfers to and from the airport are aroun £40 each way.
All in all we had a great trip and can't wait to return!!! You do get hassled, but if you ignore this you will be fine. The Turkish people are very friendly indeed and if you enjoy haggling and shopping - this is the place for you!"

"I would like to say that this is a very nice hotel, which is kept very clean and has excellent standards of fixtures and fittings. It has a lovely featured pier into the sea which is a sunbathing area during the day and an a la carte restaurant in the evening.
My first concern is the layout of the Elegance, when you compare it to the Maritim Grand Azur, you will see what I mean. The hotel is in an 'S' shaped piece of land, which means it is overlooked by inferior accomodation. The front of the hotel is noisy in the middle of the beach front bars (don't go to bed before 1.00 am) which may be a problem if you want to catch some sleep before that early flight. The rear has noise from other bars and a road where buses come and go through the night dropping off holiday makers. The middle of the hotel is the best position for noise, but not much of a view!
Secondly the hotel price of local drinks was too high and measures too small. To the point where hardly any one was drinking with their meal in the buffet restaurant. 5 star prices and small measures on local produce not good.
Thirdly, one of the a la carte restaurants and the rooftop bar were not open. General maintenance, painting, plastering and planting flowers was all happening throughout our week. Although this did not disturb us, by the first week of June I would have expected this all to be completed.
Finally the level of behaviour and courtesy from many of the guests (Russians) was appalling."
