107 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Club Candan, myself, husband and our 6 year old grandson. Had a great time and were very pleased with the apartment and pool, although I new that there wasnt any kids club I did still think there would be entertainment at the night and was very disappointed that we didnt get any, but this was the only down side to the holiday. The room was spacious and clean and had everything you needed, if we did return next year would defo get a pool view room as ours looked onto the road and was next to the dreaded generator which was going non stop for 2 days when the electric went off, this started at 7 in the morning something you dont want on your hols. Staff were friendly, and went out of their way to help, but I must say there were not many people in the apartment block as it was nearing the end of the season, so no trouble getting sun beds etc, would definately recommend it."

"The hotel itself was very nice, modern and clean. Modern and spacious rooms with everything you need. Air con is free which is always a bonus. There are a few downsides to this hotel which became more annoying as the holiday went on. Lovely size pool with slide but not enough sunbeds for all guests when hotel is full. At the welcome meeting you will be told that there are strict rules about sunbeds and not reserving them before 08.30 and leaving them for more than 1 hour- if left, the pool bar team have the right to remove the towels. This is not adhered to and is a bit of a nightmare at this hotel. I had to get up at 08.00 to reserve 2 sunbeds and even when I got to the pool at 08.10 there were few left. Some sunbeds were left for hours at a time and there were even occasions when they were not used all day and nothing was done. The pool area is extremely cramped and you feel you are on top of one another which also means you have people passing in between sunbeds to reach the pool. Food was average and drinks were fairly expensive. Some bar staff would also charge different prices at different times regardless of happy hours etc. The mosque is extremely close which means a wake up call at 04.00 every morning and it goes off throughout the day. Entertainment may be good for some but sometimes it just became too much during the day with the entertainment guy constantly talking over the microphone. Music was sometimes extremely loud and VERY repetitive. Overall, hotel was ok but not one I would go back to anytime soon. Probably great for families, with the kids club etc but not for couples who want a chill out."

"My husband and i have just returned from a weeks holiday at turkey, staying at the club candan. on arrival at 5am we had been traveling for approx 14 hours so we were happy to just get escorted to our room and not have to fill in forms etc until the morning. the room was pleasant spacious and clean, double bed, white large fluffy towels and a pool view and a sparklng clean fridge. the pool and poolside are well maintained, we had no problem with sun loungers etc although only 4 out of our 7 days were sunny as we had storms for the rest of the time. the food is really nice well presented and the staff bend over backwards for you, however its far more expensive than down on the sea front, along with the ice creams etc which are double the price. the entertainment is average to say the least, and we found gaynor the rep not very helpful when we approached her on the day before we left to extend our stay in our room until 10pm the day we left, she was very rude and refused point blank to ask the hotel receptionists for our request when we said we would be making a complaint she spelt out her full name on top of her voice in front of a restaurant full of tourists and said go ahead and do it. Incidently i approached the front desk myself and they leT us keep the room until mid night for £30, as simple as that. we purcased the full package for the turkish bath at the hotel, it felt like a production line and they try and sell you extras all the way through so its not a relaxing experience and the 30 minute massage is more like an 8 minute massage, you can also buy the package for £10 EACH cheaper down the road. the location of the apartments isnt ideal, its in a back street and whilst walkinG down to the waters front we didnt feel exatly safe and so found ourselves paying for taxis each evening, we saw tramps searching through bins and stray cats & excretion everywhere. Also the mosque is near by so if your a light sleeper you will be awoken at 5am, which is the first of four or five times each day. the beach isnt one you'd see on the front of a thomson brouchure, we found it dirty and uninviting. Didnt tick all of our boxes!!
"We are a family of 4 who stayed at these appartments. They were very clean with very helpful staff. The food was of a decent standard, with a good selection. The swimming pool was clean and of a decent size but always very busy. At the welcome meeting you will be advised that they won't tolerate guests leaving towels on sunbeds and then disappearing, they don't actually enforce this, so very frustrating when you come down at 10am and there are no sunbeds with parasols left!! They close the pool early. The resort itself has lots to offer, but no real decent beach. The harbour was more expensive but offered a lovely evening in some nice resturants. Souks down by the harbour are better than the market, lots of fun haggling. We did the drag show evening on the beach front which was hilliarlous suitable for all the family. My only complaint was that the brochure wasn't that clear about how close the mosque is and the type of entertainment on offer. The entertainment was non stop with most of the time either music blaring or somebody talking on a microphone. Lots of people seemed to enjoy it, but for us there was nothing relaxing about this hotel. As a result we went out most nights. "

A really great holiday!!
"stayed at the Candan Appartments with my girlfriend, we are both 21, we really enjoyed our holiday and are conidering returning to these Appartments next year. The staff at the candan (pronounced JANDAN) are very friendly and pleasant from the recepion, barmen throughout to the maids. In a good location only a short walk from plenty resturants, bars and the beach. if your out too late I would advise to get a taxi back. The rooms are modern and clean, a good size for 2 or 3 people anymore would be abit cramped. Pool is very nice, good size with a slide. Plenty of sunbeds, pool bar prices and foods ok, but we eat out alot. Bar staff were really great, very friendly and chatty. Didnt have a very good view, the land infront was owned by a farmer who owned 2 cows, it is next to the Thursday market which was a bit of an eye-saw when we first got there, but dont let that put you off. Marmaris beach is not the best, we got a bus into Icemeler where the beach is alot better. All in all we had an amazing holiday, Turkish people are very nice. some do have you harrashed tho! The nightlife was brilliant in both the beach front and Bar street. Plenty of nice places to eat.(reasonable prices) I would reccoment this hotel to all ages. ((we stayed in Candan appartments, not club Candan)) "

Shame It's Brit Only
"The biggest downside of the Candan appartments is that its clientele is exclusively British and therefore lacks a cosmopolitan feel. The apartment we had was clean, well-maintained and cleaned daily. Staff were generally helpful and service in the bar/restaurant good. Dining at the Candan is expensive compared to restaurants just around the corner, but these tend to be a little tacky - far better to pay a little more and head for the harbour area; Dede's and Fellini were both excellent. The pools are fine and cleaned regularly, though sunbeds were crowded and jammed in very tightly Our greatest disappointment was the quality of the evening entertainment. If we'd wanted Bingo EVERY night, we would have booked a Haven holiday in the UK. Bingo was followed by a short kids' disco and then some sort of show. Professional entertainers were average at best but the quality offered by the resident entertainment staff was dire - partly as a consequence of only having to cater to British audiences with seemingly low expectations and equally low embarrassment threshholds. Our holiday was enjoyable and the weather fantastic - it just would have been nice to be among other nationalities as at times we felt the atmosphere at Candan was akin to a down-market UK holiday camp."

"Having read a number of other reviews on this complex, I find myself wondering whether we stayed at the same place! It is alright, but not the best hotel in Turkey. To put these comments into perspective, I will say that over the past 35 years, I have travelled to most parts of the world, mainly in a work capacity, but also with my wife and family. There are many good aspects, which work to mitigate the not so good ones, so here goes.... The location is good, being only 10 minutes from the town centre and beach, however the beach is not particularly clean or inviting. The hotel is sold as a 4*, but is actually nearer to a 3*, showing signs of wear and tear in many areas. The hub of activity is the pool area, which is delightful for a pool, but lacks something when used as a restaurant and lounge venue for entertainment. There are no communal facilities indoors, unless you count the reception area. Downstairs contains the Sauna, Gym etc and also the 'Kids Club' rooms. We are in our early 50's and took our 9 yr old son, who was bored after the first week as there are no external activity areas (Football, Tennis, Crazy Golf etc)and the Kids Club, run by Thomsons, is fine for 5 to 8 yr old girls, but lacks any real engagement for boys, particularly those over 6. The girls who run the club work their socks off, as do ALL of the other staff, including Gaynor the rep, and Douane the camp comedian, but in reality there is only the pool to occupy your days. The main client base is British (99%) which brings with it all the stereotypes of that group. Everyone was friendly and good natured, but some of the children were allowed a little too much freedom to run riot, while their parents were busy getting tattooed, moaning about foreign food or putting their towels on the sunbeds at 7 in the morning! A little gem we discovered was KIPA, which is a TESCO franchised hypermarket, which sells local and international food. It is nearer than the popular TANSAS, much bigger and also cheaper, but no one talks about it? Ask any of the staff for directions. Finally, the trips; we went on two, which were very good. The Family Sunsplash involved bay-hopping around on a large boat and swimming in the sea. The second was the Dalyan Checkout, which was excellent and highly recommended as it cuts the Airport-Hotel transfer down from 2-hours (Yes!!) to about 30 minutes. We enjoyed the break, but would recommend something in, or nearer to Icemeler for a better quality Turkish experience. "

Good holiday, but with limits
"We returned this morning from a really good two-weeks at the Candan Apartments (pronounced Jandan). Our group consisted of two adults in their early 50's and a 9-year old boy. We have travelled as a family group around the Med area, but have travelled independently around the world for many years; I mention this to give some credibility and perspective to the comments. First, the apartment complex; which was described as a 4*, but is nearer to 3*, primarily due to the absence of any recreational areas away from the pool-side, No lounge, restaurant or external gardens or grounds, everything is located and held around the swimming pool. The facilities that are available are very good and well run/manitained by a team of friendly, well behaved and hard-working staff. Teh apartments themselves are adequate for the job, but a little basic and showing signs of considerable wear in places. The cleaning staff are good and changed our sheets and towels regularly, cleaning the floors etc daily. The Rep (Gaynor) is approachable, knowledgeable and helpful and went out of her way to help when needed. The safety deposit boxes in each room are good value, at about £1 per day and the exchange rate in the hotel is good enough not to bother wandering aimlessly to save pennies here and there. I found places around which would have given me up to about 50p to £1.50 extra per £100 changed. The kids-club girls (3) also do a stirling job, but we felt that their ideal model would probably be a 5-7yr old girl, as the activities for boys in the 9 to 12 group were very limited and tended to be a little tame, joining in with the youngsters more often than not. The cost and care given are beyond reproach. We saw a wide variety of predominently (95%) British residents, which brings with it all the pro's and con's of that group.... every example of the stereotype was there in abundance. The entertainment is provided mainly by 'Club-Fantasia' led by Douane in a really amusing and hands-on manner, which everyone seemed to enjoy. Whilst there we went on trips to the 'Family Sunsplash' and 'Dalyan Checkout'. Both are excellent in contanet and value and highly recommended. Another little gem which has yet to be mentioned is KIPA. This is the local branch of TESCO and is enormous, much bigger and closer than the TANSAS supermarket which everyone raves about. Turn right out of the hotel and right again up to the dual-carriageway, then walk left along the carriageway for 5-minutes. A taxi will cost about 7TL (£3) and the visit will save you a fortune. All in all, an enjoyable holiday, but we felt that a week was enough, as by day 2 of our second week, my son's desire for football, tennis, volleyball and all the usual holiday activities was driving us daft. Finally, as mentioned before, the Dalaman airport is really expensive. £6 for a beer and £3.50 for a small coffee. Surprisingly all of us had food and 500ml bottles of water which we carried, unchallenged right from the hotel and onto the aircraft. "

Best Hol Ever!
"We have just returned from Club Candan. Sneaky suspiscion that I was there with Clarabell who left the last review (if she's from Manchester)! Can only really say the same, FANTASTIC holiday. Everything you need there onsite. I went with my other half and our 2 boys. One of them 10yrs and the other 3&1/2yrs. The staff were great, the entertainment was great and would recommend the Turkish night on Fridays to anyone. The rooms were clean and towels were there, fab service regardless of the buy your own toilet roll!! I have to mention the on site photographer who took some great shots of us, was really friendly and helpful and likes his football shirts! He is a great guy who probably doesn't get mentioned enough, but is there working all hours with everyone else!! It was my other half's 30th birthday while we were there. Charlie (one of the waiters) went out to get me a cake for him (as a surprise) and on his birthday all of the waiters came to our table to sing happy birthday when we gave him the cake. Overall probably the best holiday we have ever had, would recommend the hotel to anyone and we look forward to going back again!!! Thanks Club Candan xx"

"Myself, husband, daughter (now 17, had her 17th birthday in turkey) daughters friend (17) daughter (9) and son (4) all recently got back from the club candan.... I want to go back immediatley!! We all had the most fantastic time. It was all of our 1st time to Turkey, we opted for Marmaris (I was very wary as i'd been told lots of tales about the turkish men, and to watch them with our older girls!)..... this as now been totally diminished, didnt have a problem atall, the people were very friendly and welcoming, especially the waiters at candan (fab) all of them!! Maids came in everyday (even made little designs with the sheets on the beds), towels changed when ever you needed them.... the only thing is that they do not provide you with loo roll, this I found a little strange, i've never stayed anywhere that didnt provide toilet paper, having said this, the place made up for it in every other way. The pool was the highlight of the holiday for the kids, they loved it, massive slide in the big pool and an octupus shaped slide for the little children in a seperate pool, plenty of sunbeds. Kidszone through Thomson were fantastic, and gave us a mini break also while they were in safe hands having faces painted and playing games and having parties! brilliant. Out and about you are spiolt for choice, loads of eateries, lots of lively bars (we opted for along the beach front rather than bar street) although we did stay at club candan quite a few nights and ate there n watched the entertaintment.... the staff were more entertaining than the actual entertainment! All in all I dont have a bad word for the place, loved it that much that we are going back next year (and I never go back to the same place because I like to try different places).... club candan is an exception!!.... cant wait! Perfect Location / Accomodation and Staff
"We are Sue and Andrew who yesterday got back from Candan apartments, there is Club Candan, Candan Beach and Candan Apartments. This was our first time in Turkey and what a pefect holiday. The appartments were as they are on the pics, this should be 4 star, beautiful clean rooms, immaculate pool and georgous food thats cheap. The bar staff, Eddie, Billy, Hetty and Jimmy are the best, they really make your holiday, and are sooooo funny, Eddie loves Lionel Ritchie ( be warned.. all night long gets played!!!) Billy is an hilarious character who we got on with very well. If you want a cheap, clean, relaxing time, you will not be disappointed, 10 min walk form the beach, but we love the pool, 5 mins, from restaurants and activitys like quads, turtle beach, safari etc. This was truely a fantastic holiday, book it!! were going back in october we loved it that much!!! and right by the market where you can get your fake diors, prada, ysl etc!!!! Thanks guys for a top holiday .... see you in octber love Sue and Andrew"
