The Place to Stay!!!
"We had a lovely holiday in Kalkan enhanced by the Elixir Hotel. Firstly, I must commend Egeman the manager on being helpful above and beyond the call of duty, nothing is too much trouble for this man,he will do anything to make your stay stress free. His staff are exceptional.... polite, friendly and again so helpful. The standard room we'd booked was quite small so we upgraded to a superior room overlooking the pool area which was much bigger...just a word of warning, it can get quite noisy late into the evening. We had ear plugs with us so problem solved, I'd recommend taking some just in case! The food was excellent and the food on the BBQ night was great, I am vegetarian so Egeman made sure I wasn't left out, plenty of choice for me. The walk into the town is about 20 mins and quite a steep hill to climb on the way back but this hotel is well worth it. Do consider staying here, you won't be disappointed."

"This hotel claims to be 4*, but it simply isn't. Its located a steep walk from the centre, the rooms are small, there are holes in the doors so people can see into your room, the tv and fridge didn't work. Noise from the hotel bar regularly disturbed us past 2am every night. Breakfast is a service tragedy. But all of that could possibly be overlooked if it weren't for the outrageously rude management. They appear pleasant enough, but its just a facade if you do not choose to spend money in the hotel. In this case you can expect an uncomfortable stay. In our case we were publicly scolded infront of other guests for having the cheek to bring a bottle of water back to the hotel (our fridge didnt work !). My girlfriend was reduced to tears. Overall - definitely go somewhere else."

Worst Holiday Ever
"Kalkan is a lovely place to visit. We come every year (My hubby and I). Last year we had a memorable holiday at the Samira Hotel in town, and whilst out exploring, thought the Elixir Hotel would be a nice change. What a disaster. The rooms are small (Deluxe ones are a joke). The TV didnt work, and when we requested another room (ours was beside a very noisy family) they did nothing to accommodate us and the TV remained unusable throughout the trip. They also continually tried to 'flog' drinks at the bar, and when you didnt buy, stopped trying to be helpful. We checked out their sister restaurant, "the Trading House"- again, worst possible service in Kalkan- and you dont get bad service in Kalkan!!! Our dinner took over 1 hour to arrive- and the steak that hubby ordered was overcooked. The only positive thing i have to say about our stay is that the staff who work in the hotel (cleaners and barman) are very friendly. The owner, at reception was frosty, unreceptive and unhelpful when we were asking for holiday travel advice. "

hotel elixir, a place to make great friends and wonderful memories
"well i don't know where to start... we have just returned from the elixer hotel in kalkan and from one of the best holidays we have ever had. I can't rate this hotel highly enough. Kate and her team opened there arms to us after a terrible start at the meri hotel in oludeniz, we were transferred to kalkan and arrived to a little piece of heaven that is the elixir. The hotel is very tastefully decorated, extremely clean and the staff are incredibly friendly. We stayed in a superior room with sea view for two weeks and didn't want to leave at the end of our trip. I can highly reccomend the infamous wine tasting and all the meals that we had at the hotel were delicious. we can't wait to return next year to see our new friends, miss out on this hotel at your peril! also i highly reccomend the pina coladas! thank you again kate."

Part of the Family....
"Proof that there are still real bargains to be had... we booked our stay at the Elixir (via the Turkey specialists Anatolian Sky) after finding it on lastminute.com alongside a raft of larger, impersonal holiday warehouses! Wanted some comfort and some sun so checked them all out with Tripadvisor and the Elixir came out top..... And you were all right!! This is a real gem... From the moment of our arrival (after a long transfer from Dalaman Airport) we were made to feel welcome by Kate (the English owner) and her staff. The hotel is small enough to allow you to get to know everyone else (if that's what you want) and the 15 or so of us there developed a real family feel very quickly. Obviously we were lucky with our fellow travellers, but this was also down to the welcome we received, the sense of fun that developed over the week and the attentive but inobtrusive level of service from everyone at the Elixir. Support at the resort and beyond from the local reps was also very well pitched. From daily tea and cake by the pool, an excellent weekly barbeque to a memorable (and probably soon to be infamous) impromptu wine tasting, our week was filled with little extras to make our stay memorable and we were very sorry to leave. The Hotel is relatively newly refurbished and is kept to a very high standard. It was tempting to spend all day by one of the two pools or lounging in the fantastic Turkish bath, but Kalkan and its surrounds has so much to offer... Not sure how much longer this one will remain on the list of "last minute bargains" as it deserves to be full year round... but while it does, it represents a real find!"

"We have just returned from a weeks holiday in kalkan at the Elixir hotel. Kate and her staff certainly know how to look after their guests and provide a relaxing, calm atmosphere nothing was too much trouble and when we had any query it was dealt with immediately.due to the arrival time of our flight(6 a.m.) and being the only 2 passengers for the elixir, we were picked up in an air conditioned taxi and taken straight to the hotel. After a nap and getting up at about 11am we'd obviousley missed breakfast, but were offered it any way, and really pampered from the start. My only gripe would be that I assumed we would have views of the bay from the pool but we didn't, but from the rooftop terrace you did of both Kalkan bay and Kalamar bay, but the rooftop pool was somewhat icy cold! and there wasn't a bar up there. My husband had a turkish bath done by Pumkin(his knickname) what a character he is and what a laugh ,really infectious. Kalkan old town itself is lovely and most restaurents are on the rooftops with views over the marina and bay. We had fantastic food in all that we went to, including the olive grove, the ottamen, the old trading house, and another that is one level up from the front promenade and in front of the fish terrace. We went with Anatolian sky holidays and their rep Krista was also brilliant. She was down to earth, totally honest about the trips and what was involved and very knowledgeable about the area. She was always available to answer any questions or queries, if not in person, on her mobile. We did two trips the river canoeing- great fun fantastic bbq lunch in a field, followed by a bit more canoeing and a mud bath! our guide and his team looked after us well and were good fun-there was alot of water fights on route but it was so needed in the heat, The other trip we did by boat to see the sunken city of kekova, really interesting, extremely relaxingand lovely swimming in some secluded bays. Lunch was a bbq cooked on the rocks that we were moored to. As mentioned by other people the hotel bbq night was phenomenal, mezze starters so many to choose from and the meat and fish that followed freshly cooked and never ending! All in all I would gladly recommend staying ,I would even consider going back to the same place which is an absolute first for us and travelling with Anatolian sky."

"we have just returned from a wonderful holiday in kalkan, Turkey and the Elixir hotel. The Elixir hotel is a small hotel with about 30 rooms. it has a lovely average pool area with pool bar with an excellent bar superviser called Murat. It also has a lovely turkish bath donwstairs in the basement were you can have one of the best turkish baths with Pumpkin. The hotel has a small rooftop pool which was ideal to get out of the midday sun despite it being absolutely freezing. We had a superior room which isnt that much different to the standard room. The room had a king size bed with lovely polished wooden floors. The rooms also had air con which was an absolute godsend. The hotel is run by kate the owner and her husband Ali. All the staff at the Elixir were very welcoming and no proplem was too big or small for them, they answered to your every beck and call. Breakfast is included with the hotel which is traditional turkish breakfast, which was lovely, the pool bar serves snacks all day (well i say snacks!). On a Thursday night the hotel do a BQ which is forty lires each but the food just never stops coming it absolutely worth it. I think the only downside is the position of the hotel, as it is situated on a hilltop and it about a 20 minute walk to the town centre we recommend taxis especially after a lovely meal down by the harbour which are only 14 lires there and back. There are plenty of resturants for all poeople with different tastes the food is of a good standard and reasonbly priced; we found a lovely resturant called Trio by the harbour the service was fantastic. The weather was absolutely fantastic while we were out there and we would definitely consider going back to the Elixir hotel."

"We have just returned from 2 weeks at the Elixir in Kalkan. What can I say that others havent. Both the hotel, staff and Kalkan itself are not to be missed. Kalkan is expanding all the time, but still holds so much charm that has made my husband and I decide that we will definately go back. I want to keep it a secret place, but the sooner the better. And when you do go, The Elixir is the perfect place. There isnt much I can say that others havent, but we didnt want to leave. The stay was perfect. The hotel was small and personal and it made you feel very special. We even recieved a complimentary bottle of pink sparking wine for our wedding anniversary, something we never asked for, it was another example of the kind of service and attention Kate and her staff pay to all the guests. The only warning I have is dont let the chef play tricks with you at the bar after midnight, he is too good and you will find yourself parting with your beer!!Everything made our 2 week holiday perfect and we will be back. I wish Kate and everyone at the hotel the best of luck for the future."

"We have just returned from the most wonderful 2 week holiday that either of us could remember, We have been to Turkey several times before but never to Kalkan, so we decided as it was to be our Honeymoon we should have a go at Kalkan and had a look at some of the hotels. The Elixir is a small , friendly, beautifully equipped Hotel that has all that we could of asked for including attentive friendly staff, great food and attention to detail in all ways (tea and cakes at 5pm nice touch!!). The owner Kate was always on hand to help or offer advice on where to go or what to do if you could be dragged away from the fantastic pool and jacuzzi area. The walk into town was a gentle downhill stroll 15-20min while in town you didnt feel under any pressure to go into shops as can sometimes be the case in Turkey, You could eat in a different restaurant 3 times a day and still not get round all of them in a month i think! The food was always of a good quality and very reasonably priced. We are already booked for next year! i feel like i am letting Kalkan down by writing this review as more people will read about it and therefore go and it will no longer be the relatively undiscovered gem that it is now!!! seriously though GO THERE"

A great weeks R& R
"Never having visited Turkey before, this was a bit of a gamble for us.The gamble paid off, far better then we could have imagined ! Virtually everything about our holiday at the Elixir and Kalkan was perfect, from the moment we left Birmingham Airport to the moment we left Dalaman, to return home. The Elixir is a great little hotel, having just 23 rooms, it was just right for us.Friendly, comfortable, great staff, excellent room, laid back, just right for a rest in the sun. It takes about 15mins to get into the centre of Kalkan and about 20-25 mins to walk back (better to grab a taxi back for 8 lire).Kalkan is great. It is friendly and hospitable, with no trouble. The restaurants are in the main very good and reasonably priced, as with everywhere you can find meals to suite your budget,(Daphne's is excellent). Check out the pancakes for lunch, anything from 3 lire to 7 lire.Coffee overlooking the bay is very relaxing,in fact the week was totally relaxing. Back to the Elixir. The week was made by the attitude of Kate and her happy and willing staff, thanks to you all. Peter and Andrea, Wakefield."

"We have just returned from the most relaxing chilled out holiday ever at the Elixir Hotel. The Hotel is an easy stroll into town about 10/15 mins and about 20 mins back as it is up hill but good to walk some of the meal off and give you a good reason to have a drink at the bar. Kate (the owner) and her staff are excellent and tend to your every need they are so attentive yet not too over the top the balance is just right. There is such a relaxed ambience around the hotel you will find it hard to drag yourself away, we had some lovely lunches and the bar-b-q night was a great success. Kate is the most wonderful hostess and makes you feel you are visiting a friend. We cant wait to go back and in 23 years we have never gone back to the same place but are looking forward to our next holiday in kalkan even more so the Elixir Hotel. Alison & Clive"

We have recently returned from a week in...
"We have recently returned from a week in Kalkan, our third trip all in all, and I must say is was fantastic. Kate and Ali have created a most wonderful experience in the Elixir Hotel with fabulous rooms, excellent staff, and an atmosphere in which our one year old thrived. He was taken for walks by the staff, entertained during the day around the pool and given constant attention. Kate and Ali have hired a cracking team at the Elixir. Breakfast in the morning is a wonderful experience, but totally flexible and not the typical buffet style. You can basically have what you want and when you want it. We had such a great time that we are going back in September and staying in the suite this time, with views over Kalkan Bay and Kalamar Bay. This hotel is located ten minutes along the Kalamar Road from the roundabout, there is a bit of a hill but quite a nice walk."
