10 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
Never laughed so much on a holiday before!
"We arrived late and they an round getting an extension lead and water for my cpap machine(breathing machine.)I couldnt believe how friendly and helpful the staff were for £5 per night!! What can you get for that? Okay the rooms are basic and you cant always get a hot shower but to be honest we needed the cold showers in the heat. The breakfast was Turkish so it was great to experience the oountry rather than the fatty boring full english options offered elsewhere. The lunches and dinners were excellent and better than all the other local restaurants - trust me we tried them all but alara was the best food. There are lots of complaining guests who go from moaning they are always hungry to saying they are given too much food!I don't think I could deal with these moning minnies anywhere near as professionally as the Alara staff do. If you want a cheap holiday in a clean hotel and to have a laugh then book here - we will definitley be coming back to the Alara!!"

Hotel from HELL!
"It was my third time in Turkey, and unfortunately the worst ever. Icmeler itself is very beautiful location, we will definately come back again, but not to this hotel! If anyone would offer to have holiday for free in Alara hotel I would never take it, as it would be hellish time! Rooms are small, symbolic balconies where you barely can stand in. Bathroom is tiny, shower is basicaly two shower curtains and your floor will be flooded regardless. If you are lucky to have water in your shower!!! Not talking about when you do have water it goes hot and cold by itself. You barely have running water in the sink. Our room was cleaned only 3 times during our 12 days stay!!!! We had to ask for clean towels and toilet rolls every single time. Cleaning lady was always smiling, but unfortunately she did not speak english. And for 30 rooms that hotel had she was the only person doing cleaning. Obviously hotel managment budgeting cleaning expense!!!!
We were on half board for the first time, but never ever again!!!! This experience put as off for life!!!! Me and my husband we are not fussy eaters, but the food was horrible. For breakfast: boild eggs (not sure when they've been boild), spam (most of the time looked tike been on the plate for a few days), tomatos, cucumber, olives(soggy), cheese, bread, jam, honey, butter, soft drinks made from powder with tap water(!!!), some cheap cornflakes and cheap tea and coffee. And everything is taken away 9.30am sharp, even if hungry children just coming for breakfast! Everything is done so you would spent money later on!!!!
Dinner consisted of one meaty option only, mostly chicken. As the cook said management dont want to buy anything expensive like beef, lamb and ect.!!! Budgeting again! Side salads every single day the same. And I love salads, but these were awful. So when few evenings for dinner there were curries ( the same for two days in the row!!!!), I was left without dinner as I dont eat curries. Or one evening there was no meat at all - small portion af chips (cold!), rice and mushrooms with cheese, that was cook's special dinner!!!! So you have to go and eat somewhere else if you want to have proper dinner! And if you dont spent money for drinks and lunches at the hotel you will be in trouble!!! You will be picked on, intimidated even bullied by staff!!!! They do not have even basic manners with people! They know enough english to tell you what you cant do, such as smoke (when everyone else smokes), have drinks from outside (even some others can), you cant have food in your room (even there is a fridge-ours wasnt working!). They always add extra things on your bill, so you have to be very carefull and remember everything you have ordered. They even give bills for days when some people were not in the hotel yet!!! Air conditioning is extra, it took 2.5 days to sort it out as we didnt want o pay for it, because we thought they might make us pay at the end of our stay.
But if you are happy to stay only in the hotel during the whole holiday and spent your money on drinks and food there, staff will be your best friends and will do everything for you! Because the only thing they care is money!!!!
Tarek and Jimmy (son of the owner) gave me creeps. Always watching you, always talking about you in turkish, but you know that they are talking about you because they are making head gestures and everyone stares at you!!!! They take your cigarets, fruits, drinks without asking you even if for exsample Jimmy never have spoken to me or my husband during the whole stay!!!! In the evenings 12pm sharp all lights where people are sitting and having drinks are out, because it is very expensive according to staff, and they do not understand english when we try to explain that we are still here, we are buying thier drinks and tv that no one is wathings is still on, swimming pool is fully lit, together with bar area!!!!! Dont understand what you mean they say!!!
Manager threatened one woman to kill if they try to spek to travel rep from uk that visited one day. Group of people were thretened to be evicted for talking to other people about what was going on in the hotel. They do not care to improve things!!!! They double book rooms, so when people arrive at 2am or 4 am and find that there is no rooms for them. Then manager do not speak english and sends Tarek to do all the talking. I have overheard how Tarek told one family that they either can go to other hotel and wait till Alara will have free rooms or they can go back to uk!!!! What a hospitality!!!!! They have removed people from the hotel mid stay on excuse of electric fault, and then few hours later new people are in that room!!!! But the real reason is that those people didnt spent enough money in hotel, so they are no use and dismissed easily.
If you read positive review it is definately the staff promoting hotel!!!! Please take advise and NEVER GO THERE!!!! The only thing that made our holiday enjoyable were people that we met in this hotel and had great time with!!!!"

Hotel from hell should be on you have been framed
"Dont go this hotel is a let down to Icmeler, if you have booked to stay here don't expect a room as you will prob not get 1 due to some excuse abt the room being trashed the night before you will be offered other accomodation but the far end of the old town away from everything, we refused to be moved after other guests telling us they had been saying it to everyone that arrived but then the people that told us were threatend by the management if they spoke to us any more they would be kicked out, our room was payed for us to go into from 2.00pm on the wednesday as we were arriving early hours thurs morning and didnt want to have to wait till the aftoon for our room but we finally were given our keys 2.30 thurs aftoon losing us a day of our holiday and having to sit around all day they even charged for our drink we had while we were waiting we was promised a free boat trip for the inconviniance but we were just given excuses when we asked abt it, the floor in our room was covered in pubic hair the air conditioning which they charge for is not as good as having yr hairdryer on cold so dont bother with it save your money and buy a fan from the shop, i normally eat anything and do believe you get what you pay for but the food was crap it was outside covered in flys and was the same every day, if you order a drink or food from the bar they put in on a tab but keep check on what you have as they put things on it that you not had i was looking through the tabs they were charging me for and noticed 1 of the bills for 28 lira was before i even arrived at the hotel so be carefull, the lift when working was outside and made of glass looks nice but what a sweat box use the stairs it safer and if you want a shower take your shower gel and use showers at beach as most of rooms get no water if you buy food or drink from outside use the main door so you can quickly get up the stairs or they want to see whats in your bag and take it off you even tho you have a fridge in room, The glass in the bottom of our balcony (window box) door fell out and we were charged £90 to replace it but they left our room covered in broken glass on the bed in our suitcases and clothes, i was sitting on the bed drying my hair in just a pair of knickers and in walked a cleaner without even knocking, the day before we were due to come home our room was cleaned top to bottom even tho we didnt ask for it but then we noticed someone had been through our cases and clothes and my hair straigtners had been used, when i spoke to the recepionist about it she said its not possible as no 1 has a key to the room even tho they walked in on me naked and that i was in the wrong for complaining abt my stuff being used as it is not a problem
but was a bit different when i said i will go to her home and use her stuff then
The day we were coming home there was a inspector rep at the hotel and i was told if i spoke to her the manager would kill me so sit quiet and keep my mouth shut. the only thing good was the staff tarac, kevin and jack they were lovely but were shouted at by management if they were being to friendly
Dont let this hotel put you off going to Icmeler as it is a lovely place just be carefull when booking you hotel"

not for me
"just back from here on friday. We had a great time in icmeler but the room in hotel was very poor. The staff were very friendly but this was never a 3 star hotel. There was no choice of hot food only one after having your soup. You had the same side salad every night and the same dessert [melon] every night. The food tasted ok but a bit bland.I would probably go back to icmeler but not to this hotel If this hotel was in spain it would be lucky to get one star"

"Clean and tidy hotel you pay want you get??? (Very cheap Asda price) I donât understand people complaining over this hotel. Good values for your money, in the centre of town near to all amenities.
Good food, Rooms small but cosy. The rooms only have a small balcony but sitting in the bar lounge meeting other guest and staff, made our holiday.
The staff made you very welcome and wasnât pushy, Tariq, Kevin and jack were great fun But F**** Crap at playing pool. HAHA.. Would definitely go back again?
Turkey is great for buying designer wear all cheaper then asda price.
Food and drinks is around the same prices at home.
Icmeler is a quieter town than marmaris, plenty of shops bars and entertainment.
I personally prefer Icmeler.
Here is the staff at Alara Holtel
Thank you c u soon XXXX

Don't stay here!
"Out of all the times I have stayed in Icmeler this has to be the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Upon arrival as 2 young girls we felt very intimidated by the amount of male staff 'lurking' around! The following day we were asked to pay 60 lira for one hand towel and were threatened with eviction for coming in early morning(to be fair we are young girls and on holiday of course we will go to nightclubs!) We were also questioned as to why we were coming in so late! So for the rest of the week we were scared to breathe and didn't dare use the hotels towels...i think the room was cleaned once and toilet roll also given once! Only go here if you want to spend time in the hotel and money in the hotel it's the only way you can keep the owner happy!"

"When we arrived in the early hours of the morning the room we were given had a broken door handle, no air con, only 1 towel for 2 people and had the lift mechanism outside the door which was really noisy. We complained and were told we could change the next norning which they did and the second room was ok and we eventually got some towels. The staff in the hotel weren't very friendly and by the end of our week they threatened to evict us as we were supposedly encouraging other guests not to stay in the hotel and spend money. We met a great bunch of people and obviously we all went out for meals and to the beach together-thats what you do on holiday. The resort of Icmeler is great and the rest of the people in the bars were really nice and friendly so would recommend it just stay in another hotel!!!!"

"The hotel, as a whole was not good. This was my 3rd time in Icmeler, and the worst!!! At the bar, I have to mention Kevin and Tariq who were so helpful, and friendly - they made up for all negativity! The rooms were tiny, shower tiles dirty, and in 50degree heat air con was not automatically given and cost 10 TL per night - so thats 140 TL if you're there for a fortnight!!!! The meals were OK although I won't lie, I didn't eat much at breakfast and being on half board, really only ate my dinner. Therefore, I had to pay for breakfast and lunch the full holiday - another expense not budgeted for!!! For 2 nights there was no hot water - yes fair enough, you don't want a 'hot' shower, but at least be given the option especially when you need to wash the oils etc out of your hair after a Turkish Bath!!! DON'T EVEN ATTEMPT to bring ANYTHING into the hotel, not even a bottle of water - it was like customs - I was expecting an internal search after being found with a bottle of water, and having it taken off me at reception..........I won't be back at the hotel, and I wouldn't dare recommend it to a friend, or even an enemy!!!!"

Tarik and Lockman made it a brilliant stay-LOVED IT!
"there are only 2 members of staff that spoke english which didnt matter as there was always 1 or both of them there.they were called Tarik and Lockman and we had an absoloute laugh with them-they made the holiday.the beach is only 15 minutes away and is close to cheap markets and supermarkets.alcohol was a little expensive in the area but well worth going."
