Hotel in a great location, Pitty the reception staff are useless
"Just arrived home from a 7 night stay at the Fantasia hotel in Icmeler . First things to say are that our room was big with beautiful views over the bay of Icmeler. The room was spacious with a well equipped bathroom with a large power shower, very nice after a day in the sun. Meals are very repetative and cater for the continental visitor. We booked Full Board , but found ourselves eating out in the evening as by the time we had eaten breakfast and lunch at the hotel we had had enough of the same offerings of rice , potatoes ( usually chipped or wedges ) , and different variations on chicken and turkey stews. The breakfast had no variations , no english touch what so ever to any of the meals .
The pool is of average size and never got busy, Sun loungers were available all day, there is a private beach with free sun loungers and towels, however they do allow people to pay for these as long as they buy drinks from the hotel bar! The views are picture postcard perfect and I would recommend the hotel just for these.
If you are British and choose to stay at this hotel, you must be prepared for poor service, especially at reception, as they choose to be unhelpfull. We prebooked a late check out room with Thomson, received our tickets clearly stating our pre booked options, however on our last day, we found ourselves locked out of our room and when we contacted reception we were greeted with the attitude that its not our problem, they made no effort to resolve the situation and would quite happily have kept us locked out of our room until we paid another £50. I had to produce the tickets with the pre booked information on to give them theidea tom check the internet for the latest information. This confirmed what we were telling them, we received no apology, they are only interestedmin taking your money. Customer srevice is none existent. Another thing to be wary of is the mini bar, on check out we were presented with a bill for 8 lira, although we had never touched the mini bar. By this time we were weary with the hotel and paid begrudgingly.
If you want fantastic views and a beach front location you can not go wrong, however bear in mind the food is repetative and the staff, especially at reception are quite rude.
There is no entertainment on at night and round the pool during the day its all Turkish music, so take an I pod !"

"My husband and I stayed at Fantasia Hotel for a week. The hotel itself is beautiful, newly refurbished and the location is great, but the food is unacceptable. Eventhough we paid for full board, after our second night we could not eat at the hotel anymore. The food is very basic and made from cheap ingridients. On two occasions there was hair in my food and when you confront the staff they just look at you with a blank expression. They don't even apoligise. The only manager I saw during my stay at Fantasia was the front house manager. NOONE that works in the hotel cares!!!!!!!! Our spending money that should have been spent on presents were spent on eating outside.
The hotel should be advertised as ROOM ONLY as paying for full board is WASTE OF MONEY !!!!!!!! We will only recommend or go back to Fantasia Hotel if it was on ROOM ONLY basis."

Great Hotel but bad food
"The hotel is amazing and it is soo beautiful. The views are amazing as all of the rooms are front or side facing so you are almost guaranted a sea view. The staff are very helpful and will try their best to help you. If you travel with Thomson the rep Jenk is wonderful and he tells you all the good and bad points. The beach is literally a 2sec walk and it is a private beach, however outsiders can pay to use the facilities. The pool is not that big but it never gets busy and it does not have a pool bar as the pictures show. You are also a small walk from places one main bar is bamboo and the entertainment and staff are amazing.
Ok now the bad parts:
The hotel is mainly for Turkish people and thus the hotel caters for them especially with the food
The food is very very repative and because it is a high quality hotel they do posh food in a buffett style. The breakfast never changes and we never got any home comforts in our food.
The room is quite spacious but we had a problem with our shower as it really leaked and toilet was broken.
Children can stay at this hotel and do!!!
The hotel put entertainment on a night which is a person singing (no one attends and it is loud and can be very annoying when trying to sleep at 12 in the morning)
If you do the Dalyan trip on your last day becareful as the hotel they keep you in is like faulty towers and is not a 3star."

"Just returned from 2 weeks at the newly refurbished Fantasia Hotel in Icmeler and it was a great experience. From the images I've seen of the old Laguna Hotel, the new owners have done a wonderful job refurbishing. It is clean and stylish, with very friendly helpful staff , from the chefs, the waiters; bar staff and chambermaids. The food is prepared freshly every day with a fantastic tasty and varied selection. We were very impressed. If you like good foreign food, this is the place to book full board. No queueing in the restaurant, no 'wait here to be served', just walk in, choose your table, inside or out , sit down and help yourself. Also their new rule of no kids under 16 allowed was a huge bonus for us. It was 40 degrees, but with a cool breeze off the sea and the aircon in our room was quiet and worked perfectly. The view from the front rooms of the hotel is onto the beach, palm trees and the bay. Stunning. The side view rooms are ok, but not as good a view and I would only stay there again if I could be guaranteed a front room view. The surrounding area is beautiful, with mountains all around and lush green foliage. If you stay in the area of the hotel, it is quiet but with plenty to do with lovely bars and restaurants. The watersport centre is also very close to the hotel. The town of Icmeler is much larger than we expected and most of the bars and restaurants play very loud music until midnight. It's great for the younger tourists, but not so for the more mature visitor. There is a lot of hassling and haggling at the market stalls in the town and we found it a bit of a strain, but most of the sellers are pleasant and funny, but you can't simply window shop without being hassled to buy. Try a day trip on the Green Boat (bookings outside the Marmaris Hotel), very well worth 20 lira for a full day, 10am - 4.30pm. They pick up from your hotel to the boat, fantastic views, stopping at lovely bays for swimming, sunbathing, a good 2 course lunch included, Run by a very nice Turkish family. Overall Fantasis Hotel and Icmeler was a lovely place and well recommended."

Just not ready!
"Average and boring food, variable to poor service, limited concept and practice of customer care. Definitely not a deluxe or 4 star experience!
Location great BUT key facilites just not yet available, though advertised. Management told me that it's been up and running for 4 weeks but things one would expect from a "deluxe!" hotel just NOT in place.Spa, massage and shop not yet open. NO facility for a shower and freshen up on the day you leave UNLESS you prebook and pay for an extension to your room or are happy with a cold shower by the pool in a public area! Reception staff just laughed when I questioned this and the duty manager could offer NO facility other than the cold pool shower, saying "systems" were yet to be established! THIS IS MEANT TO BE A DELUXE HOTEL YET food and facilities just do not match up. However rooms and public areas are kept nice and clean and have been refurbished.
Food remakarbly average, very repetitive buffet with often little to no hot vegetarian choice and salads not adequately labelled. One day my choice was 'broccoli' for lunch and potatoes and sprouts for my evening meal! Little to no organisation in the restaurant - you find your own table and when you get back to it, having been to get your food, someone else could well be at it. Also as the hotel began to get full, you had to wait for a table and they made no use of the inside public area just outside the restaurant where they could have set up tables and better met customer needs. Really don't know how they or you as a customer will cope in high season.
From my experience this is NOT a deluxe or 4 star hotel.
Many staff do try to be helpful but a number seem new to the hotel trade and many are very young and inexperienced. Excuses and lack of operational activity are not acceptable for a hotel and travel companies which are marketing this as a "deluxe" experience in Turkey - which it most certainly is NOT.
Would be OK as a B&B so you could eat elsewhere and also get your daytime and evening drinks elsewhere - their options are expensive. You'll find many good bars and restauranrts only a short walk away and in terms of value and quality they are much better."

"The Fantasia (previously known as Laguna) has recently been fully refurbished and has new owners. The hotel has been beautifully decorated, very modern and stylish. We were given a suite on arrival (not by request, just lucky i suppose) room 107 with a spectacular view of the sea front. I did get a sneaky peak of the standard rooms and they too are very nice. A key is provided for the safe in the room (no extra charge). All rooms have mini bar with various alcohol and soft drinks at a reasonable price.
The spa is fabulous. The gym is included as is the Turkish bath, a small fee is required for the use of the jacuzzi and massage.
The food exceeded my expectations having had a bad experience last year in Marmaris i did'nt know what to expect. But very very good. We were full board and i tried just about everything, tasty fresh and not repetative at all. The waiters were great, always smiling and looking like they were enjoying there work there. Very polite and proffessional.
Towels are provided on the beach and there are plenty of sunbeds to go round. The guy that works on the beach is lovely, very attentive.
A 5 min walk takes you to stalls and shops, the hairdressers is great for manicure, pedicure etc, costs about 4 pounds each and my partner loves a turkish shave.
The taxi boat takes you to Marmaris, although we did not try this as we got the Dolmus there and decided to walk back.
There is loads to do and plenty to see in Icmeler, it's beautiful and Fantasia is one of the best hotels i have ever stayed in, i would definately stay there again."

"We only booked 2 weeks before we went and because of the amount we paid were not expecting anything special. The view from reception over the pool and to the beach is breathtaking. Bedrooms a little tired but well equiped and kept very clean. The staff very friendly (some overfriendly) but on the whole very good. There was always something that you could eat in the buffet restaurant and the pool although small was well located and always clean. The location of the hotel was at one end of the bay, ideal for a walk to the otherside in the evening after your meal. I would definately go back "

"After arriving at 6am and seeing the other hotels people were being dropped off at we were a little apprehensive about booking this trip (this was our first 'package tour'). The chav brigade left the bus in marmaris thank god!. Arrival was greeted by a cheerful secrity guard who took our bags up to the room. First impressions were good - the reception view is fantastic and the room though a little small was clean and well equiped. The balcony looked out across the bay with a mountain backdrop - superb. Yes the decor is a bit dated but how long do you spend in your room? The pool does lack a few sunbeds but as another reviewer wrote why bother with the pool when the beach is on your doorstep. The sunloungers are free if you dont use the cusion and the hotel provides beach towels free also. The sea is like a millpond and very warm.
The food was OK, something different each evening - ranging from spaghetti bolognaise, grilled chicken, kebabs etc. Breakfast again was good, fresh omletts and pancakes cooked to order, cereals and pastries.
Icmilar itself is a quieter resort than marmaris with plenty of good cafe's and bars. You have to get used to the local traders hasselling - though they are all cheerful and it's part of the experience. Haggling for goods is also fun once you get used to it - even in resturaunts. We managed to get two bottles of decent wine (dont drink the cheap stuff - its gross!) thrown in for free!
The music in Icmilar is turned off at midnight, though the bars and cafe's will stay open as long as there is custom.
We would recomend a trip out of Icmilar into the hills beyond - the scenery is fantastic.
Overal our holiday was fantastic - we will definately go back, maybe to another area, but thats only to see a different area."

Nice hotel for honeymoon
"Well we arrived at half past 6 in the morning and I wasn't too keen on the reception. But wow, the view frm our room was amazing!!! The hotel is right by the beach and has the only stretch where palm trees grow so if you fancy a bit of shade it's there.
The rooms are a good size if a bit dated. The balcony is lovely to soak up the view. The bathroom had a bath, shower but no freebie toiletries other than shampoo so we had to go and buy some showergel. There is a fridge. minibar and a tv with a good choice of channels like BBC World, CNN and lots of german channels (but then I am gerrman and had the advantage). Rooms were cleaned daily and sheets changed regularly.
Breakfast was very good with a huge choice however the dinner let the hotel down. There was enough food but the choice was very bland and unimaginative (veal most nights along with tasteless pasta and deep fried poultry). The soup was excellent though and the puddings too!
The pool is nice although there are nowhere near enough sunlounmgers HOWEVER the hotel has got a private beach next to it so we went there anyway. Why swim in the pool when the sea is 30m away???
The overall impression of the hotel was very good although the decor is very dated by now. The staff didn't seem nearly as friendly as our previous visits to Turkey but we put that down to the fact that it iwas end of season and that maybe they are not allowed to be too friendly with guests because of 48/ We were the only english in the hotel as well, everyone else was dutch or german.
If it wasn't for the fact that I didn't like Icmeler or marmaris I would go back to the Laguna as the location is fantastic. The hotel is closest to the beach on the entire stretch of the bay and nice and quiet whilst only a short stroll away from the centre. There are plenty of bars, restaurants and shops and the dolmus goes to Maramris every few minutes for 1.5YTL. The taxi boat costs 7.5YTL and leaves every half hour. There are plenty of excursions as well."

Great views, great location, but hotel needs a makeover!!
"We stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks from 11-25 September. The hotel is in a quiet spot being the first hotel in the resort, its right on the beach and there are spectacular views across the bay from most rooms.
We were booked for half board, but having tried the food at dinner on three occasions, we choose to eat out. There are an abundance of restaurants serving great quality food in Icmeler (Mimosa and Set Steak House are highly recommended) at good prices. The food at the hotel was terrible, uninspired and lukewarm, even the desserts were not tempting!! The staff are friendly but the service for drinks in the dining room is a bit hit and miss. We then only ate breakfast at the hotel which was a big improvement, as the chef would cook eggs (omelettes, fried etc) to your preference.
In the hotelâs website, the pool area looks to be an attractive feature with the swim up bar, (although it is attractive) in reality, the barstools are wobbly and rusty and need attention. There is only room for about 15-20 sunbeds around the pool, so unless you get up early, you have no choice but to sunbathe on the beach, for which there is a charge.
There are plenty of Russian guests (who have no intention of forming an orderly queue and are much worse than the Germans) so set your alarm clocks and put out your Union Jack towels on the sunbeds by 6.00 am!!
The hotel is showing its age, in parts it is quite shabby and looks due for a facelift. Our bedroom was OK - it was spacious, clean and comfortable , (twin beds pushed together), plenty of storage space, digital safe (payable locally), mini-bar, and an average size balcony. Maid service every day with fresh towels, and bed linen, but the bathroom was very small, dated and uncomfortable, the tub is very high and you have to jump in and out (also where did they hide the plug for the washbasin?)!!.
Alas no complimentary toiletries in the bathroom!!
The view from our room (107) overlooked the swimming pool, with the beach, sea and mountains in the background, it was fabulous.
The Laguna is officially rated four stars - it might have been when it was first opened - but we would rate it no more than a three star.
We made the best of our holiday though and enjoyed the markets in Icmeler and Marmaris and the shops in general are very good, plenty of choice for everyone.
Must mention âDreamboysâ restaurant - the staff in there are 1st class and a lot of fun, fantastic entertainment, highly recommended.
We also went on two boat trips from Marmaris. The âHarikaâ is a fantastic boat only 2 years old, with 2 sundecks, and very cheap £10 each for the whole day including lunch, had two great relaxing days out, scenery is great.
Have been to Turkey 3 times so far, Fethiye in 2005 and Calis Beach in May this year and had great holidays there, we loved these two resorts.
All in all we would not return to Icmeler - it's far too touristy for our liking.
Hope this review helps you decide! Enjoy."

The hotel advertise air con the machine...
"The hotel advertise air con the machine make's a lot of noise but only circulates warm air, if you would like cold air then the advise from hotel staff is to open a window?
As June seems to be early season the food selection is reduced and only the pool bar is open for drinks, having said that the food was ok the staff very friendly but would not a class it a 4 star hotel as advertised, it may well have been when it was first opened but unfortunately the hotel is now showing its age.
Would not recommend or go back."
