A big let down
"Having read all the rave reviews for the Tugay Hotel I had high hopes. We booked through Jewel In the Crown holidays. We returned a week ago. On arrival, we were allocated a room adjacent to the small reception area. It was around 2am so we just went straight to bed. We were woken at 5.30 am by someone else checking into the hotel, then again at 7am by other guests chatting in reception. We have a young daughter, she had very little sleep. We spoke to the owner, Ilkay, he said he only had one other room available ( the other were being used as store rooms). The room was extremely tiny, they squeezed in an extra bed, we decided to accept it as we would at least get undisturbed sleep. It was far from ideal for three people though. The balcony (complete with rusty railings) over looked an area that was being used for storing junk, old sunbeds, mattresses, sacks etc.......not very pleasant. We wasn't expected a 5 star hotel but the grounds of the hotel should be kept clean and tidy. The first few days were ok, sometimes we struggled to find room with shade around the pool as nonresidents were being allowed to use the pool. I have no objection to this but there should be ample shades for the residents, there were only three large umbrellas along one side of the pool. THEN the noise started! From 8.30am, banging, drilling, sawing, welding. No chance of peace around the pool so we went to the beach. We returned for a siesta, no chance the noise was horrendous. The following morning the noise was the same, we spoke to Ilkay and he assured us that it would only be for a couple more hours. We went out for the day and returned in the late afternoon to more noise. I felt like I was holidaying on a building site. I went to sit on the balcony, it was covered in building dust, as were the towels I had left to dry. No wonder, the builders wer throwing all the rubble over the balcony above onto the floor below. The owner avoided us. The following day was the same so we went out for the day to escape. Because the noise started early in the morning and continued all day we decided our daughter needs and early night. However, even at nearly 10pm the banging and drilling continued. My husband went up to the workers and asked them to stop then went to see the owner who was no where to be found, the only member of staff around didn't speak English. The next morning at breakfast, the owner made no apology and just gave us dirty looks. The rep from the travel company came round and agreed it was unacceptable, she was also appalled at the state of the grounds. She spoke to her boss, he rang the owner. Before we went out that day, we bumped into Ilkay, he offered to make up for 'his mistakes' (his words) by offering us a much larger room, he showed it to us, we accepted and he said it would be ready when we returned. Sadly, when we got back, he had given the room to someone else!! The following day, we could take no more of the the noise, the filthy grounds (our room did not overlook the pool which was the only tidy area) and the dirty looks from the owner because we had dared to complain. We spoke to the rep and asked to move, it was at our expense but it was worth it, we couldn't spend another week like this. Luckily Calis Beach is a wonderful resort so our time out of the hotel made up for the fact that our time in the hotel was so disappointing. I have never needed to complain about a hotel before, hopefully I won't have to ever again. Thankfully the Jewel In The Crown Rep, Fiona, was excellent and did everything she could to help us but Jewel In The Crown should have informed us of the building work before we traveled, it had been going on for a few weeks and it's set to continue as the owner is building a laundry behind the hotel."

Would reccomend it to eneryone who likes a personal touch and we look forward to returning to The Tugay Hotel."

Gem of a Hotel
"Family run Hotel, Owners were so helpful and would do what they could for you Day and night. Rooms were cleaned Daily, Towels changed 3 times a week, Pool water was changed twice in the week we stayed. Air con charged seperatly but at £20 for a week was an essential addition as temprature was 39 oC plus. Hotel Ideally located within a short walk to the beech, but far enougth to be nice and quiet at night. Many resturants along the Beech front, try the Turkish Buffet from 10TL per person. Local mini Buss runs every 10 mins to large town Fethiye and for only 1.5 TL (about 70p). Large Market in main town every Tuesday, but be carful don't accept first price, it coulf be twice or 3 times too much. Try a Day Boat trip around the Islands, lovely Day out with lunch for about 20TL. Visited with two teenagers and wife who would all recomend the Hotel and location."

Peace and quiet
"A small, clean and peaceful hotel. Lovely pool and a good breakfast (Turkish style: Bread ham cheese egg salad cereal jams honey juice tea coffess). Only a short walk from the main strip in Calis. Room was small but that was never a problem for us. Air condition £3 a night but you do need it. Shared a balcony. Snacks and soft drinks available. The bar was really just bottled beer and a few different spirits. Definitely would return to this hotel."

"i was a bit apprehensive when i said yes to this hotel as we were booked into the Sevi which was on the opposite corner on the main road, but i was so please when we got there, you never saw anyone in the pool at the Sevi but at the Tugay,my daughter who is 16 was invited by the turkish people to join them playing in our pool. The owners were very nice people and told us if there was anything else i wanted for breakfast they would accomodate.there were a lot of turkish people in the hotel which was fine, we made friends with a few english families,.the dolmus(bus)ran every few mins and was so cheap but we walked into Calis every day for dinner which was about 10-15mins,no rush so why get the bus.you got the usual hounding from the restaurant owners to go into their places for dinner but we eventually walked the roads that ran parallel with the front so we wouldn't get hounded,we would go back to this hotel but if you want entertainment, there's none,it's just a quiet hotel 5mins walk from the beach."

I want to recommend this hotel.
"This small basic hotel is spotlessly clean and the staff are so friendly they really cannot do enough to help. The room had twin beds, a large clean wardrobe with plenty of hangers and also free security box. There was a small bed side cabinet dressing table and arm chair. As advertised a hairdryer, fridge and TV were also supplied. The balcony was shared with next door and like the room ,a little on the small size overall, but what else would you honestly expect for the money! The bathroom was( essential for me ) clean too! The shower tended to spill over into the rest of the bathroom but so what? There is no commmunal lounge just a small open air poolbar.Bedding was changed three times during the week, and the brilliant white towels were changed daily. Breakfast was served poolside, and was typically Turkish but with plenty of choice.Boiled eggs, fresh bread, butter, honey, jam, cereal, cake, fresh tomatoes, cucumber and olives. Tea and coffee. The pool and surrounding small grounds were absolutely spotless and better than some five star hotels I have previously stayed in.Plenty of sunbeds and no towel bookings!I would certainly go again!!!!ten minutes to the beachfront and local buses etc from just across the road I recommend the small taverna type restaurant that has just opened opposite as well,AMBAR - good for light lunches.Try the cheese Pides. The hotel also can provide you with light lunches if you ask salad chips ,toasties etc.Beer 2-3 TL Local fish restaurants are reasonbaly priced and good value found at most places even on the beach front. Try the water taxi to Fethiye and the fish market one evening,- very fresh fish at good prices. Sun food and drink with beach and shops thrown in-just enough for a one week stay.No louts, loud music or high rise hotels in sight. The area reminded me of Greece ten years or so ago."

Superb Value for money
"Just got back from Calis after staying in the Tugay. Superb value for money. Rooms absolutely spotless, cleaned every day, towels changed every day, nice quiet location but handy for everything. The owner, Ilpay & his wife & staff will make you very welcome at this "small & friendly" hotel. The pool area is large, safe & kept very clean by the hotel staff & not too deep for kids., the breakfast adequate & public transport to & from Fethiye is just at the end of the road,if you wish to use it. All in all a very pleasant surprise for the price we paid."

5 star service!
"Just got back from a week in the Tugay. Clean, quiet, well located hotel with a wonderful welcome. The owners and staff can not be praised too highly. My partner had a medical problem whilst there, but the owners generosity of spirit when it was needed most will live with us forever. The Tugay sits at the lower end of the price scale but is 5 star service. Fabulous!"

Wonderful clean hotel in a quiet location
"I have stayed at this hotel on several occassions. The owners are extremely nice people who can't do enough for you. The hotel is cleaned thorougly on a daily basis by the house keeper and the pool is large and spotless. There are also snacks and drinks available all day at a reasonable price. This hotel is in a quiet location however it is only a five minute walk to the beach. The local transport is a stones throw away therefore giving you the opportunity to discover this region at leisure."

To our surprise the hotel was in a very quite location but not too far from the bars and restaurantes,The rooms are a little small but thats not a problem as they are kept very clean by the housekeeper ,in the rooms there is a safe ,tv , hair dryer , fridge (no charge) air con they do charge for this. The owner and his family run the hotel with a warm welcome and after 1 week we felt like family ,all we can say is we had a great week in the sun in a small good hotel and would go back next year and recommend to all our friends."
