Antalya is a city of contrasts. With its pretty harbour and long beach, it attracts its fair share of sun worshippers. However, the city is what most people come for. With its third century Yivli Minaret dominating the skyline, most of the attractions are in the old town, which is filled with ageing Ottoman houses and enclosed by ancient Roman walls. The Archaeological Museum, in particular, is a must-see attraction as it contains some of Turkey’s best collection of antiquities, while Hadrian's Gate and the numerous minarets will soon have you reaching for your camera. In addition, holidays in Antalya provides the opportunity to visit nearby Aspendos, about half an hour away, which has perhaps the world’s finest Roman theatre.
For sun lovers, Antalya’s main beach to the west of the city is nice enough, but you’ll find more secluded and better sands if you travel west. The shoreline also contains plenty of coves, harbours and small coastal towns worth exploring. Eating out is never a problem, and because Antalya is a thriving city, you’ll find plenty of authentic restaurants that cater for the local Turkish population but are just as welcoming to tourists. For a culturally rich break in the sun, package holidays in Antalya won’t disappoint.
