OK Hotel for short vacations

3
Average

"The hotel was quite OK at first. How clean the rooms were depended heavily on the cleaning lady. All the staff was SUPER friendly, especially the guys in the snack bar.
One major problem was that we found mold in the AC on the last day, which explained the headaches we had every morning.
The food was ok, a little of everything, but it was the same every day, so it got boring after a few days.
Some of the other guests used their vacation as an excuse to act like animals - not pretty.

Also, although most drinks were free and available all day, carbonated water was something you had to buy in the market, for €1,50.

Recommended only for short trips, 5 days or less."

excellent hotel 5 star but too many rude germans and not enough english

"i satayed at the eftalia village with my husband and our 13 year old daughter this september/october.
fist impressions was excellent, the staff were excellent, the rooms were excellent well furnished and very clean. after raeding other reviews about the warning of the german invasion i was very worried about the holiday but they were right there was only 5 british people there including my family and iam easy going but they are so rude pushing in the queues and never saying please or thankyou to anyone including all the staff at the hotel.the mini disco for the kids was mainly german but the kids also learnt to sing in all languages which was good, but the evening entertainment was quite rubbish to be fair and even the turkish staff agreed, but if you are happy with the sun and plenty to eat then its ok.
the turkish people were lovely they couldnt do enough for you and they love the english people here especially if you help them with their english as they are so keen to learn more. ali our waiter was great couldnt do enough for us and yes all the other waiters were the same to us especailly once they found out that we were english. we were a bit worried about taking our blonde 13 yr old daughter with bright blue eyes, and olive skin as we had herd rumours about the turks with blonde girls and yes they all did take a liking to our daughtert evertime they saw her they would come over to talk but once my husband put them straight about her age they understood and just smiled at her each time and said she must come back when she is older, and we were offered many camels for her and a leather shop but it was all just a bit of fun, we found them all to be great .
the restaurant was excellent also and my daughter can be very fussy at times but what kids arent ! there was food to be had all day long starting from 7am through to 12.30am. drinks on tap all day long if you wanted them. real coca cola including diet, fanta and sprite.snacks served from 12 till 5 pm which in cluded pancakes sweet and savoury these were superb and went down well with everyone. there was pizza served in the italian restaurant during the day along with chips salad ect. and also the main restaurant had a huge selection of hot and cold food and plenty of cakes, gatuex and fresh fruit for the healthy eaters !!!
If you can ignore the germans then this is a great hotel, but we did make friends with some germans there were a few couples that were very nice.
linen changed everyday rooms cleaned even though i told the cleaner to leave it,have a day off but when we came back from the beach she had cleaned it.
oh i also needed some tablets from the pharmacy which the hotel sent a member of staff to go into town and get me some for my prickly heat, i thought this is going to cost me but no they gave us the reciept for 2 euros and 75 cents with no extra cost thats what i call service.
if you go there and come across ali the waiter, hussan the barman they are very helpfull but also everyone was very friendly, if you want to tip them give it to them personaly as if you put money into the waiters tip box the chef empties it himself once a week and keeps it all. the barman and waiters earn 250 euros a month pretty pooy as they work long hours and yet always have a smile for you.
just a shame there was only a few of us british compared to 1500 germans, if it wasnt for the german invasion we would go back there again.
if you go have fun just ignore the germans there is enough food for everyone haha they want it all,but there is plenty for everyone.
kev, angie and molly from portsmouth hants"

"We stayed at the 'Aytur Eftalia Holiday Village' for our honeymoon which was recommended to us by a travel agent. After looking at the pictures that she emailed me the hotel looked like a dream honeymoon location, we were expecting a 5 star all inclusive resort and service. There was nobody to greet us at the hotel and when we did finally find someone of assistance they could only speak German even though they were Turkish????? All of the entertainment was in German. There was no mention of this being a non English hotel. The food was ok but definitely not 5 Star, the only good food was from the young turkish lady who made pancakes either sweet or savoury, she was the only person who was very friendly and had a smile on her face. This is not a place for English people who want a friendly atmosphere."

Not for the British

"Only one review when I booked this hotel but several before I left so I was not looking forward to our first family holiday for 8 years.

We dont have great expectations and have never been AI before but this episode has put us off going again.

The hotel and village complex was lovely and there were always staff cleaning outside areas. I would say the hotel and village warranted the 4* rating.

Rooms - our was a 3 bedroomed family suite and each room was spacious, had air-con a balcony (one shared with master bedroom other had own) and two of the rooms had a tv but aside from BBC World news or Euro news everything else was in a foreign language although Mr Bean was very entertaining and it was in English.

Maid changed sheets and towels everyday but would say that on arrival there was cigarette ash on the floor where someone had missed the bin and this was not cleaned up after 3 days so I did it myself even though the maid had mopped the floor. Underneath the beds was dust, fluff, hair, hair bands, a rubber ball and it was obviously that the beds had not been cleaned under for some time. The rooms were okay though although the energy saving key fob has to be inserted for the electric to work and ours frequently cut out after only a minute when we first entered the room but the minute we called for assistance with it, it worked perfectly!

Food - Not impressed. The food is definitely not 4* quality. At breakfast there was bread, pain au chocolate, various rolls, jams, salad, cheese, meat, olives, yogurt, 4 types of breakfast cereal, milk (which dribbled out and only one unchilled container to take it from), watermelon, hard boiled eggs, scrambled egg, hotdog sausage in sauce, one toasting machine, outside there were chefs cooking fried eggs and pancakes. For lunch it varied on where you went as to what you got. The Italian snack bar served spaghetti, sauce, pasta in sauce (which varied daily), salad, some fruit, chips (which were not kept in a warming unit) and fresh cooked pizza which was nice but you were not always allowed more than one piece depending on the queue but they only cooked a certain amount per day and when its gone its gone. The Turkish snack bar had kebab meat, cheese bread, rice and was hot. The restaurant seemed to serve the same stuff as it did during the evenings but rotated so we didnt go in there. At evening dinner we had a choice of rice, spaghetti, chips, spiced potatoes most days and it was not always hot even at the start of the evening dinner. The meat was liver, mince in chilli con carne but you could not see the mince for all the red beans, chicken but all cuts of the chicken, leg, wing etc all with skin on and cooked on the outside griddle, and for which you often had to queue for (our longest time was 40 mins), turkey but it was a leg joint that had been cut through the bone and looked like a lamb hock, beef in goulash but not lean. Always salad in the evening but not much veg offered and not always nice. We were disappointed with the food and sick and tired of it by day 9. If you liked plain food you had to have salad, rice, spaghetti, chips and bread because most of the other stuff was spicy and we saw many children with chips, spaghetti, rice and bread on their plates. Dessert were okay loads of sickly cake, blamange type stuff and ffruit of water melon, melon, grapes, apples, oranges (drempt of bananas because never got any of those.

You had to get there by 6.45pm to get a table and one day we were a bit late and had to suffer a table inside where we dripped sweat constantly through the meal because the air-con in the restaurant was on the side of the walls and one of the two units near to us that day was switched off.

I who have travelled to places such as Egypt and never once been ill, developed stomach cramps on day 2 and diarrhoea by day 4 and my children were also affected by this later in the holiday and for some reason my husband escaped it. I do not know if it was due to the food or what but there were other British who were ill, one had to have a fluid pumped into her after she became so dehydrated from sickness and diarrhoea that she collapsed. One of my sons got an infection in both ears and one eye and we had to go find a chemist to get some amoxicillin after the doctor failed to turn up for an appt after an hour with another patient waiting.

Drinks - There were drink stations all over with cordials, coffee machines, water etc and the bars had coke, coke light, fanta, sprite, beer, raki, gin, vodka, whisky all free. The children were served without problem and we only had to queue in the evening at the pool bar where the entertainment was.

Ice cream was served between 2-4 but not always at the kids pool so you had to go looking for it. Cake time, we only saw cake twice in the afternoon and when we went looking for it, it was all gone. We weren't really bothered about having it but the kids were living on pasta, bread and chips and needed something different.

Entertainment - Not great really. There were three good shows out of 13 namely the two comedy shows and one of the dance shows which was only worth watching for the pavarotti miming which was really funny and should have been in the comedy - he was very good. The day time entertainment was darts, airgun (4 pellets), aerobics, step, aquacise, archery (2 broken arrows and one decent one). At least one of the entertainment team did speak in many languages to cater for all the nationalities - English, French, German, Russian, Polish, Swedish, Turkish.

Never tried kids club but were told by English family that if you didnt speak German dont bother as the Kids were unable to understand and felt left out and didnt go back a second time.

One of my children was hit across the face in the pool by another adult because he bumped into her with his airbed. Another of my children was slapped on the back for the same and another was chased, pinned to the wall and shouted at because he charged through the human wall her children had created to prevent mine from passing and he was outnumbered and scared being all of 6 years old - all of these incidents involved foreign adults and therefore without knowledge of their language I was unable to do much about the events.

There were hardly any British holidaymakers here so you were surrounded by foreign voices most of the day.

The staff were friendly and some spoke reasonable English.

I hope this helps. I definitely would not book to go back here. Also the German family we met paid 1,500 Euro (£1,000) for AI for a week where as we paid £3,000 for 5 of us for two weeks and got that through the internet sites at the best deal we thought, I wonder how much the Turkish paid to stay there!"

"we arrived at eftalia holiday village on 12th June 07 for 2 weeks, we where very excited about being on holiday and in good spirits. our first impression was "what a lovely place"
however this all changed after our second night, mealtimes are very stressfull! you had to que for any kind of meat for over half hour, evan had to que for bread for 15 minutes, if you got a table you was very lucky but you then had to clear it up yourself from the last people that ate there! on several occasions we sat on sun loungers to eat our meals. the food was the same every single night and we reduced ourselfs to salad for two weeks! our 9yr old daughter lost half a stone! the entertainment was utter rubbish and you will be lucky to find many brits! my husband got 2 ear infections and our daughter got an eye and ear infection (from the water) the beach is a quarry! a couple of brits that we did meet told us there room was flea ridden! i have stayed in a 2* hotel before which was miles better than this supposedlt 4* plus. we have never complained about a holiday before but i would advise DO NOT GO!!"

"we have just arrived back in uk last night 26/06/07 we have never been more relieved to get home. it was awful our room was filthy there was dirt and dust under all the beds even stuff from previous guests we told rep of this in first few days she passed on to manager and nothing was done our 21 month old baby became very ill with his asthma. there was fleas in the room all over the beds. despite telling rep about very wet floors in the toilets nothing done about that also our baby slipped and bruised his leg badly. the meals are horrendous you have to queue for ages to get anything so you end up just getting what you can get which was mainly rice and chips every day some eves we couldnt even get a table and sat on sun beds to eat.
there are lots of others in our hotel complaining at this moment so we are not the only ones. i would advise anyone thinking of going here not to we had an awful holiday"

"Resort good points.
Very tidy resort, the rooms are very well done out and maid service on hand every day.
The food is Not brilliant but it is in no way any worse then most resorts that do all inclusive meals.

There is plenty to do on site like treat your wife and yourself to a Turkish Massage (go for the job lot it was well worth the money and leaves you feeling great for the rest of your holiday) and don't worry about the kids they can either have one too or they have people there to watch over them whilst you relax.

The pool bars will be where you will probably find the meals that suit you and your children better then the main restaurant for snacks and lunch times and the beach club also.
The rubbish people have written regarding the beach is just that, Rubbish! The beach is very tidy and as all sorts for you and your family to try out, Like Volley ball, banana boat and jet ski, and then there's always the sun lounges to just relax and top up your tan.

The beer was very nice and there's plenty of Vodka and other spirits to help with the Very High Temperatures (if you get my drift) and there is Proper coca cola, fanta and sprite for the kids all free of charge obviously.

The entertainment on site is not the best, this resort is a place that caters for the Germans and Dutch mainly but don't let that get you down as after the first night you get to like whats going on and there's always the disco to try out down near the inside pool.
During the day it is nice to relax at the pool with the slides, your kid/s will love it and there is a tennis court and football pitch that they can make use of.

Take a trip into Konakli, its only a small place but there's plenty of shops there to pick up a bargain. And make sure you go down into Alanya, it costs about 1Euro each on the dalmas (local bus) and there is loads to do there. Good Bars, Food and loads of shops to buy till you drop.

There's plenty of day trips to take whilst your there and the prices are great for what you get.

I hope you enjoy your time there, we certainly did.

"we stayed here 13th to 20th may. we arrived at 12 oclock at night from the word go it was a disaster,we had to wait for our rooms untill 1.30 am.we came as a family of 5 .we ended up with 1 room at the other end of complex to the other room. we had 1 single sheet only on a double bed.the next day we complained to thomas cook rep who was totally useless.breakfast was ok if you liked fried eggs and cereal every day .dinner was better with a good veriety to suit all.evening meal was good.but never hot only warm food .now on to the place its self the complex was very nice and clean.90%of the staff were miserable and very ignorant. the day time entertainment program was not bad darts ,shooting, volley ball ,aerobics, football etc,but found it very hard to catch any english speaking staff,so sometimes missed activities.the evening entertainment needs some seriuos work on ,they done a good copa cabana show ,there was belly dancers another night ,so two or three good nights of entertaiment only. the entertainment started at 8 pm with kids disco till 9pm then the main show from 9pm till 10pm only. that was it then a bit of music till late. the pool bar staff were terrible if the kids were at the bar for a drink they would just stand talking we had to go up and get drinks for them.the entrtainment staff were ok hi bobo(very nice youth).the place was loverly but the staff were very disorganised.turkish bath and sauna was good with nice staff. nice complex but would not go back."

Eftalia Hell!

1
Awful
by

"Id had read a few reviews before we went on this holiday and went with an open mind. We were booked for 14 nights but moved to the Paloma Beach, Side after 4 days due to the following.

On arrival along the dirt road at 4am the staff could not have een nicer and even offered to get us some food.

When we awoke the next morning the sun was shining and we thought 'here we go'.

When we went down to breakfast, our whole attitude changed. The food was awful and catered totally for Germans and Russians. The choice of hot food was hot dog and scrambled eggs. There was plenty of cold food but was swarming with flys and when the trays were emptied they were not replaced. There was a huge array of pastries but who wants to eat cakes at 8:30am!

Even trying to get a table was a battle and on the few occasions we were there it was chaos.

On the second evening my wife had some spinach and felt metal in her mouth, she then promptly extracted a rusty staple.

When we complained to the Thomas Cook Rep we were told that it could happen with a packet of Walker's crisps back home!

The Rep was totally inept and when I complained about the quality of the food and the quality of entertainment I was told 'there is nothing I can do about it!'. Not quite the answer I was looking for! When we eventually agreed to move hotel we had to pay £270 and when I handed over my Debit Card I was told that there was a 30% charge! I was then taken to the local village to try and find a bank machine.

The food at all meals was awful, the choice was minimal and there was no allowances made for children.

We went to the 'Italian' Restaraunt and were given a salad and a fish with the heads and tails still on, very Italian. Whilst trying to eat our dinner we played a game of 'swat the mossies!', my 10 year old was an expert! We checked the next morning and there was a sewer right behind the kitchen.

The staff were under so much pressure as there did not seem to be enough of them and 70 of the guests were of a veil wearing culture and the hotel was not exclusive to british tourists as Thomas Cook had advertised (probably because no other company would touch it with a barge pole!).

One guest lasted just 24 hours and flew back to Britain and others like us complained bitterly.

i think Thomas Cook are a total disgrace for trying to pass this off as Alanya the hotel is in the middle of derelect ground and what is passed of as a beach would never pass any formal risk assesement in Britain.

Please look at the photos and make up your own mind and then look at the hotel we moved to which was paradise in the beautiful resort of Side.

We decided we would spend as much time as possible at the beach to avoid the continuous glares. The first time we went to go to the beach we asked the Security Guard how to reach the beach, we were told to either go over the bridge which spanned the motorway or go through the dark, dirty tunnel. When we reached the beach it was a shingle beach but at the side of the beach there was a huge dump of mess as you can see from the photos.

Can I just say that the staff could not have been more helpful but the food and entertainment is totally geared towards the German, Russian and Turkish guests.

What finally made us snap was when two German women were fighting over the local Turkish Gigolo and glasses were thrown at each other at 4am.

The hotel is advertised as Alanya but is 3k from the nearest town Konolaki and 16k from Alanya.

I would have to say to anyone who has booked for this hotel that they may find it okay but when we spoke to Thomas Cook they admitted that there was a problem and the afternoon we left they had their Reservations Manager coming out to address the issues that we had raised.

Sorry if this affects anyone already booked but personally I would try and change it to Side/ Belek/ Antalya."

"what can i say, had a pleasant time. the place is very clean, the food is ok, pools are nice enough. staff were alright but not as good as other people. the russians were unusually rude here and i always usually go to egypt and there are loads of russians there who arent this bad. It was a cheap break which i did enjoy and it was just what we needed but due to it being in the middle of nowhere i probably wouldnt bother going again but its decent enough."

Stay well away!

1
Awful
by

"I visited Eftalia Holiday Village in summer last year. Firstly I'd like to warn everyone to STAY WELL AWAY! Where should we start? The food was boring day in day out the same, the same baked beans re used in the afternoon! The food is particularly aimed at people of other nationality's its boring dreadful and tasteless. Moving on the Entertainment in the evenings was poor now, I am not asking for top quality west end shows but the production team put on show some you'd see from a primary school, with the same shows except they were rotated on different days for two weeks! Eftalia Holiday Village , Eftalia marina and the other Eftalia hotels in the area were ghost towns by 10 o'clock and there is nothing else to do apart from sit in reception and listen to the terrible, rude, horrible and unorganized staff argue with everyone, every evening with out fail. If you are from Russia, Germany, Poland and Ukraine, they can't do enough for you but if you're from anywhere else they could not care less what you think and how your holiday was going. While I was there on the second day I came across my the tap in the bath room which was constantly dripping and overflowing the sink because the plug would not lift all the way up to let the water drain out quickly. I went to reception to report this and see what they could do, the only thing that was said back to me was "what do you want me to do? Am I a water man?" (By water man I think they meant plumber) So I gave up straight away with a horrible attitude like that I could see nothing would be resolved. However the water park across the road wasn't bad along with the swimming pools and the sizes they had. All the slides we're open and they along with the sun loungers we're cleaned even evening. However to access the water park you had to pass through a tunnel where stray cats would be and the staff would feed them. The cats would then follow you thinking there next meal is coming from you and follow you into the restaurant and sit on the tables and the staff would walk by like that's normal! As you could probably guess by the first 5 days we was already bored and wanting to go home sadly we had booked for two weeks here as jet 2 couldn't give enough praise to the hotel, making us believe it would be great! On the second week resorted to eating out instead of eating the horrible food day in day out again. Somehow everybody seems to get poorly and no one really knows why? Maybe because of the food which was left out, not even covered! and re used in the afternoon. The rooms were very rarely cleaned and one day when I came back on the after not feeling very well I caught the maid routing through my aftershave and all the other toiletries that was in our room, which now smells like boots high street stores on a shopping trip on Saturday afternoon, after the maid spraying everything she then said sorry in what language I could only guess was Russian? leaving the room in the same condition it was left in in the morning, no cleaner and not one of the beds in a room with fresh sheets. Another thing that was really getting on my nerves was the drink sizes, i could have as many drinks as i wanted in a tiny glass which after 2 mouth fulls was empty! Never was i given a large glass after many times of asking. The large glass which seems just be there for show would only be given to you if you we're German, French,Russian,Ukrainian or Polish! And even the bar staff that work there could have a large glass! I cant stress enough to you how bad this place is! This is only a brief insight to Eftalia Holiday Village YOU MUST STAY AWAY and DO NOT VISIT THIS PLACE! unless you want to throw money down the drain and have a depressing holiday."

"We booked this holiday through Thomas Cook who said it was a 4* star and a amazing place to go . After arriving at 4am in the morning to be given one room with a double bed and single bed and then given a z bed to put up for my daughter to sleep on. So in the morning we asked to be moved to what we thought we had a two bed apartment but it cost us £220 . The food is boring and the same everyday . Ice cream you have to walk miles from your pool to other one then Que up . Rooms cleaned ok except your bathroom which took 12 days after much moaning . If you were lucky your sheets and towels changed every four days . If your German French you get treated like royalty . Staff are rude and miserable . My son was in bed for four days with sickness and diarrhea . I had it for three days and my wife had it on the last day also traveling home being sick on a airplane is not pleasant. Would say it is a 2* and would say look elsewhere this place is not worth a penny . I have been in army for 18 years and i have stayed on exercise in the wilderness has been cleaner and cost nothing . Only good point if you want to lose weight you will !!!"
