FANTASTIC FAMILY HOLIDAY
"Just returned from 1 week holiday at Big Blue in Alanya, Turkey. We were a party of 6, 4 adults 1 child aged 10 and an infant aged 14 months. We all had an extremely great time. Weather was extremely hot, usually 29 degrees even in the evening. You definately need plenty of suncream and aftersun. One word of advise, take it with you as it will cost you around 18 TL (Turkish Lira) around £10 per bottle at the supermarket.
The children enjoyed the kids club, face painting, games and drawing. The pools were great with the slides, everyone, young and old, enjoyed themselves together.
There were plenty of sunbeds and matresses to go around, which were well maintained.
Got on well with all the waiters, especially Hakan and Mustafa, who made our stay very enjoyable as they we always asking if everything was ok, and bringing us drinks. They particularly made the kids welcome, especially our 14 month old, who was treated like a princess.
The food was plentiful, even though it wasn't the normal 'british' bacon & eggs or fish & chips. My husband is an extremely fussy eater, but even he found something to eat at each meal.
Breakfast was a selction of cereal, boiled eggs, omelette/pancakes, cheese, meats and different breads.
Lunch/Dinner was usually fish or different meats, bbq chicken, kebabs, chips/wedges, a variety of pasta, variety of vegetables, different soup and fresh salad.
The cakes and pasties were to die for, as was the freshly baked bread, which you could see being baked in the outside oven throughout the day.
Pizza and flat bread, cakes and pastries were available every afternoon between 3 and 6 o'clock, so you never had to be hungry.
If you fancied a change, the shopping complex across the road had several fast food restaurants, including Burger King. Also it had a supermarket if you fancied munchies for late night snacking!
The beach is about 15 minutes walk from the hotel, and is fine golden sand, excellent for kids/toddlers, unlike Marmaris, which is very stoney. Lovely views around the bay, including the castle at Alanya.
The hotel cleaning staff all worked hard, the hotel is very clean, and well maintained. Whilst we were there, there was no loud/rowdy behaviour from anyone, even though there were groups of young men staying.
The only downside for us was the transfer, which took 2 hours, but we knew this when we booked.
Would definately go back again."

could do better
"Firstly we had a great holiday and Alanya is beautiful with lots to do! would definatley go back to Alanya. Hotel is clean and tidy and the staff are amazing (well all except the manager and entertainer Nelly who were friendly to everyone except the English familys)
If you are Polish, German, Russian or Dutch (which most of the guests are) then this is a great hotel for you as everything is catered for you. There is hardly any entertainment and like the person said below its a disco that lasts about half hour and is the same everynight. Dont get me wrong my kids loved it but after the half hour we had to go out for entertainment as they were bored. they had bingo, tombola and a belly dancing show on one night too. Everything is done around the pool, dinner and disco so its also not very safe for your kids. The park they show on the photos looks great however its just a slide and a sea saw now. No kids club like they say!!
the pools are great however beware they are so slippy around it and everyday i saw at least 10 people fall. My little one (age 2) had to wear his sandals even in the pool so that he was safe from slipping when he got out.
they were measuring up for more mats to put around it so they are looking to sort this!!
The food. well it gave us all the runs. The rep said all the english guests had it but none of the others, he said its because of change of food and the english are not used to it. i believe thats true so the food is not bad or anything just its always cold buffet..and cold spagetti or curry is not what i am used to! We ate out all the time after the first week of having runs. the food is nice and cheap at the restaurants.
The staff are excellent. they are really helpful, always happy and on the pay they get and working 7 days a week and over 12 hours a day they are amazing. especially Saban (steven) and Hakan.
The hotel is across the road from a large shopping center and 5 mins from the beach, walk right on the beach for about 15mins to alanya center and 10 mins to the left of beach is a town called Ober. short walks but i wouldnt recommend doing it in the day as its way too hot. a taxi is only a few pounds.
There are lots of parks for the kids onthe way to the beach, there is one next door to the hotel
Dim Cayi is the best trip to go on. its the most amazing place with lots of water parks on the river. about 20 mins in a taxi from big blue. we spent the day sunbathing on a river hut while the kids played in the river. if you only go to one place make sure you go there!
All in all we had a great holiday and the hotel is good but it spoiled our first week having the runs. The rep told us they are getting more english coming to the hotel so they have told the manager to get the chef to cook more english food. if this happens it wont be so bad.
They would need a kids club and a better entertainment team before i would consider going back to this hotel though!
Everywhere on the internet tells you its 50 mins transfer. no way that can happen. the hotel is 2 hr away from the hotel. there was 8 of us so we had a private taxi that tookus straight to the hotel so took us 2hrs. However most of the people we spoke to came on transfer coaches and because of all the drop offs it takes 4hrs. so i would definatley recommend a private transfer. we booked with transfers4u and was quick and easy and half the price of the transfer coach that big companys provide.
I know people say you get what you pay for but the hotel is 4star so really should be better than this. Also we paid good money £5000 for 2 familys (4 adults and 4 children ages 2-10) so we expected more

wHAT A LOVELY BUNCH OF PEOPLE
"FROM THE MOMENT WE ARRIVED WE WERE MADE TO FEEL SPECIAL, THE STAFF COULD NOT DO ENOUGH FOR US (Fahti (restaurant manager), Mustafa, Murat, Saban, Ali, and all the other waiters excellent. (sorry if I have left out any names, but I have just got home and am very tired. We did not have to lift a finger the whole fortnight. Food very good, especially the grills, bread, pizza's, veg cooked to perfection. Always lots of choice. Nellie the entertainer brill too, taking us out to show us the nightlife at the harbour. The only downside is the transfer time from the airport although it was worth it when we got therre. we also thaught it a long way to Alanya Centre(approx 20minute walk) in the heat or of course the Dolmush. But then me discovered Oba the next part of Alanya away from the castle. It was a shame we did not discopver this little town till the very last day (lots of shops and bars)and only ten minutes away. Massages at the health centre in the hotel absolutely wonderful (Hulia I think her name was) I had four in all.
The other holidaymakers were very friendly mostly, Dutch and British during our stay."

"We've just returned from a fantastic holiday at the Big Blue Suite Hotel and I can honestly say that the staff here are the nicest I've met on all my holidays - they couldn't do enough for you and even helped us out on a Sunday to get a Doctor and went to the Chemist for a prescription when my daughter had conjunctivitis.
The Hotel istself is spotlessly clean and the maids work tirelessly all day long keeping everything spotless. Even the pool area gets brushed and mopped throughout the day and the waiters are continually clearing tables, wiping them down and bringing you another drink - they were all fantastic and made us feel very welcome.
There is 1 main pool, 1 slide pool and 1 kiddies pool which is great - slides come on for half an hour in the morning and half an hour in the afternoon and we had a great laugh on them (adults and children!).
The food at the hotel is very nice and is never ending - breakfast is 7.30-10.30; lunch is 12.30-2; pizzas is then served from 3-4.30; cakes and biscuits/pastries served at 5 and dinner/bbq at 7.30-9pm!!! The manager (Gem) even asked us in the evenings what we would like on the BBQ the following evening which was very kind of him and we always got what we wanted.
Entertainment at the hotel in May was limited - although there was a mini club during the day for the kids and darts board/table tennis/football pitch for you to entertain yourself with, the only other kind of entertainment we had was the Mini Disco at 9pm each night (which the kids enjoyed). We had 2 bingo nights and 2 quiz nights (only because because we asked them to do it). I'm not sure if this is the same during peak season but I found it was a bit samey every night while we were there.
The beach was very nice and about 10 mins walk away and Alanya Centre is 1.5 miles along the beach front where there are loads of shops, bars and restaurants. You can walk this but we used the Dolmus bus which is only 1 lira as the weather was boiling when we were there and we didn't fancy walking so far with 2 young children.
The only downside to the holiday was the 4 and a half hour flight and the 2 hour transfer to the hotel but all in al it was a fantastic holiday and I would certainly recommend Alanya and the Big Blule Hotel to anyone."

"hotel very clean staff most hard working and friendley Ihave ever seen in any hotel I have stayed in.The food was well cooked and though not always English you could always find something to satisfiy you and go as many times as you like to the buffet table. The entertainment is more suited to under 10years old andwould not suit teenagers as they would find it boring. There are shops and bars aroundwithin walking distance as is the beach. If something is not to your likeing around the dineing room or the pool the manager JEM.will do his best to sort it out and you cant miss him as he is around from morning to night havig fun with every body whilst keeping everything running smooth. All the staff are very fond of children and make them feel special and my 4 year old grandaughter did not want to come home."

"was booked up for a two week stay by the second day had enough and wanted to come home as my sister hated the food and was moaning none stop, seemed to cater only mostly for german.
even the tv's in the hotel rooms only had one english channel which was bbc news.
the entertainment did our brains in as they did the same acts and shows all the time and we all new exaclty was they was going to say.
it took us fi ve hours to get from the airport to the hotel, i would greatly advise to pre book a taxi it should cost about £60.
the hotel was very very clean the bed sheets and towels was changed every day.
overall i enjoyed myself but unfortunaltly my sister eats and is very typically english and so hated everything.
this hotel is also not a 4 star it is more like a 3 star."

"My friend and I (ages 20 and 18) went to this All Inclusive resort in Turkey week beginning 19th May 2008. We have an absolute blast!! Everyone was really nice, most foreigners speak english and are willing to try to chat. The manager is really nice, he's english is rather bad but because of the bad reviews of him we decided to try to get him talking and he is really nice once he gets going!! The bar staff are really nice they also are quite bad at english, but they do try!! The pool is kinda cold but it was BOILING whilest we were there. The waterslides are good, they only switch them on twice a day. The all inclusive is good too, my friend is veggie and she found loads to eat, try all the cakes they are soooo nice. Also if you go out of the entrance and turn left then left and on to the main road there is a HUGE supermarket with loads of clothes and shoes and bag shops in it!!! I got 2 new beautiful dresses. The only downfall is that I was going to bed at about 10/11ish and I could hear the party down at the bar still going on till early hours, but it was something I got used to and slept through. DO NOT GO TO THE WATERPARK, IT IS RUBBISH!!"

"Great hotel staff , lovely massage, turkish bath and beauty treatment, so much food throughout the day , drink plentiful but very weak. Holiday rep Selman is absolute rubbish, I would recommend you book all trips outside hotel , he will encourage you not too , they are about 15 pound dearer with him and were packedsolid on boat trip did not arrange to pick us up and had to get a taxi home, when i wanted to pay less the taxi fare ,he threatened to not send me a transfer coach home. A quiet holiday very relaxing but just a ten min slow walk to small town or ten min by cab to Alanya. Went with twenty year daughter Would recommend it."

The big blue suite hotel is situated in...
"The big blue suite hotel is situated in a residentail area with only a few appartment/hotels close by. There a a very limited amount of restaurant/bars in the immediate area. There is a shopping centre over the road, with a good sized grocery store. There is also a burger king, haribo land and indoor play area with dumper cars for kids. The bus into town runs every 20 mins and you can go to a bus stop or just stick your hand out and the bus will stop for you. The cost of the bus is 1 lira for adults no matter how far you go and no charge at all for children regardless of age. To walk into town takes a little over half and hour but is a pleasant walk past bars shops etc. Macdonalds is also on the walk into town on the right hand side. There is also a fab chinese restaurant just before macdonalds called bruce lees. The beach itself is less than 5 mins walk away with numerous beach bars/cafes on it.
The hotel itself is very clean and the staff are very friendly. The guest rooms are basic but very comfortable and clean. There is a twin room double sofa bed in lounge area. small table with 4 chairs small kitchen area with fullsize fridge and bathroom with shower. There is no bath but a very large bowl/baby bath in under sink for babies small and small children. The balcony, although rather small has table and 4 chairs. Ours overlooked the pool, the others overlook the mainroad and shopping centre. The pool are is very clean and spacious with plenty of loungers with tables and umbrellas. The pool sliedes were open twice a day for 1/2 an hour. Times are on a board in restaurant. The hotel with also change money for you. You get a better deal with lira than you do the euro.
The restaurant is spacious, with lots of tables and chairs by the pool side for out side dining. The food is typically turkish and in my limited experience of turkish food I found it to be either extremely nice or not so good. There is always at least 6 different main courses with loads of salads, breads etc. There is also an outside bbq/grill every evening which although they only serve very small portions(the idea being that everyone gets a little as it is cooked)you can return to the grill numerous times. The drinks are waitor served at meals times and also in the evenings and daytime round the pool. The drinks served on the all inclusive package is limited and they are strict with the timing, but you can have as much as you want.
There is a turkish bath and massage centre just off reception. I fully recommend this, it was fab, staffed of course by men only. There is a hair dressers in reception. I did not use this, but the prices seamed very reasonable.
A must visit whilst you are here is alanya castle. The views are stunning. If you feel up yo walking up it is well worth it but is very steep and extremely tiring, although as you pass through small vallages there are a couple of bars to break the trip. At the top are craft stalls. You can also take the bus or taxi both up and down. Dont forget your camera.
Overall I would say this is very nice hotel. Dont stay here if you want to be where there is busy night life. Here is very relaxed and laid back. Entertainment was put on once whilst we were there for a week. This was traditional/belly dancing round the pool. I hope this helps with choosing your hotel in Turkey
