Hotel Subur Maritim

Fairly nice but a fair walk
"The hotel was OK. Not as in "just ok" but not OK with an ! either.
I was disappointed when we were allocated a room on the rear opposite the sea but from the expansive balcony we have great views over the city and hills as well as a side view of the ocean and the old town.
Breakfast: we only had breajfast once at the hotel and we more enjoyed the al fresco on our own very private balcony.
The rooms were ok. A bit plain. We didn't find the place noisy at all, perhaps because we were on the top floor and at the end of the hall (room 313). Even the snack fridge, though unceremoniusly plopped down on the floor inside the room door, was silent. (Nothing worse than a mini fridge clicking off and on all night.) The fridge had a few snacks long with the requisite drinks.
The bathroom was more than ample though the shower head was mounted on the side of the space. The water pressure was much better than most.
The pool area was as fine as a putting green. We had no problem garnering a set of chairs.
The pool-side cafe looked really nice though we didn't eat at the hotel after the first breakfast, which, to go on about it, was (a) hot .. and not so much the food as the room. With the sun shining in, and who can complain about that, the room was nearly sweltering. And (b) the food choice at breakfast was mediocre at best. Especially at what one would expect at a 4-star or when compared to another upper end hotel like the Calipolis where breakfast was a feast.
The front desk staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful - and in English. The person who brought the requested iron to the room arrived very quickly and decined a tip for the service.
And back to the room itself: very plain but practical. 2 double beds up against each other.
Biggest complaint after breakfast: the walk. It IS a pleasant walk down the promenade but my inner child kept asking out loud: "Are we there yet?" as it was a long walk after a later dinner. Not too long, but closer would be nicer. It could be a romatic-ish walk if you're there with your beloved and in no hurry as the prominade is well lit and right over the beach and waves.
Stay there again? Probably not except for the pool."

The Worst Hotel Ever
"The hotel is a VERY long walk away from the city centre.
The rooms were un urgent need of refurbishment.
Dont pay for a sea view room unless you smoke, I had to suffer a room that smelt of tobacco.
The staff were very unhelpful.
The food service was VERY poor.
THIS IS THE WORST HOTEL THAT I HAVE EVER STAYED AT!"

"A very noisy hotel not up to the standard. We were given room right next to the cleaning ladies rooms. From early in the morning very noisy banging doors etc. We also had noisy neighbours in other rooms. Hotel staff not friendly, quickest check in ever two seconds were told nothing about hotel or Sitges. Hotel could do with new paint etc. Breakfast was nice though. Would not recommed this place."

"Feb 20th, 2007: stayed one night for Carnival festivities. Hotel was an easy 15 min walk down a nice palm-lined pormenade along the beach to town center. Hotel staff was very friendly and spoke good English.
Room (#206) was large, clean and comfortable with nice balcony and ocean view. Bed was firm and good. Bath was large, clean and good pressure and plenty of hot water. Breakfast was great. No trains were running for return to Barcelona due to electric problem. Staff helped us with arrangements for return. For the price, if you dont mind being out from town center a bit, this is a good choice. Would definately recommend for budget travellers! Sitges is a pretty town."

Very poor service
"Hotel room was ok, nice bathroom with fitted hair dryer. The safe was very good and free. No tea or coffee maker.
The pool area was very nice and we always got loungers no problem.
Breakfast was good with a good selection.
The downside of this hotel was the noise. We didn't get a good nights sleep throughout our stay. The walls and ceilings are paper thin. We was on the second floor and the sounds coming from the room above kept us awake.
The other bad point of this hotel was the service. No points at all here.
Not very freindly either.
I would not stay here again."

Loved Sitges, but not the hotel
"Just spent two weeks in the lovely Sitges, a great holiday resort for all, but the Subur Maritim hotel left a lot to be desired. We suspected we had paid over the odds before the holiday, and sadly this proved to be true.
Breakfast, we always found was great, with plentiful food and a wide choice. But to get a sunlounger by the pool we had to be there at dawn, as towels were already placed in prime positions before breakfast.
There is a bar/terrace restaurant area by the pool and again we found the food to be very nice...once it arrived. Service was very slow, even by European standards, and the waitors always seemed overwhelmed and run off their feet. Although we never quite worked out why they seemed so busy. We also found it strange that some of the tables with parasols were always reserved, but no-one ever turned up to use them.
We usually walked the 10-15mins along the promenade into the town to eat in the evening. There are some great places to people watch and overall the food was good.
The disappointment was getting back to the hotel after our evenings out, because the hotel was so noisy. We were on the second floor and constantly heard doors slamming, furniture being moved and other peoples conversations until the early hours. Largely because of this I wouldn't go back to this hotel again or recommend it unless you take ear plugs.
I would recommend Sitges though, its a lovely place with fun, culture, sights and a lovely beach. Its a great place for families. Its also an easy train ride into Barcelona which was a plus for us."

Very Poor Hotel - NOT 4 STAR - more like 2 star
"Dont understand how this hotel has got such good reviews. We stayed in the old part of the hotel in a so called 'suite'. It was dark and gloomy with a noisy air con unit. Couldn't use it at night. The bathroom was big but had mould around the seals and only one of the ceiling lights worked. The breakfasts were truly dire ... the 1st morning we arrived at 9am to be told all the coffee cups had gone so we either used a tiny expresso cup or nothing. No offer to get more cups ... nothing. The food was also sparce. When we looked for fried eggs they were cold and only 3 left .
We were so put off we never returned but instead walked into town each day.
The pool area is the hotels best feature although the sun loungers are all filthy dirty and need to be covered in towels. We also heard others complain about the slow service round the pool. After the breakfast fiasco we never bothered to order except drinks from the bar. There are also not enough sun loungers for all so get there early !!!
We have stayed in Sitges many times and this was the worst. If you truly want luxury go to the Dolce or, in town, the Calipolis is a high standard. When we checked out they didnt even bother to ask if we had enjoyed our stay ... pathetic. NEVER GOING BACK"

"We really enjoyed staying at this hotel. The hotel is literally about 10 paces from the beach. The rooms are okay. Very spacious room and bath. The air conditioner in our room didn't really work, and the walls were quite thin, but besides that a lovely hotel. Breakfast was GREAT! Lots of selection.
The hotel is quite far from the train station (about a 30-40 minute walk), but the walk is along the seaside promenade, so we really enjoyed it. A bit hard with luggage, though!
I would definately stay at this hotel again if we return to Sitges."

Could try harder
"The hotel was clean and tidy but was a long way from being a four star.
It may have been heading towards the end of the season while we were there but on two mornings the breakfast selection took a lot to be desired ie there wasn't much unless you count one bread roll between 30 people!
The waiting staff in the outside pool bar/restaurant were slow - one occasion we ordered some lunch and after an hour and despite pointing it out to staff nothing arrived - we then went to pay for the two beers we did get and were ignored - so we walked off without paying.
The location, however is ideal for those wanting to be a little away from the hustle and bustle of the main resort and right opposite the beach. It's about a 10 to 15 minute walk into the town along the palm lined esplanade which is great."

Lovely and relaxing but not quite 4 star
"Great location just across the promenade from the beach. Pleasant 10 mins walk to the start of the restaurants in town. Nice pool area with plenty of sunbeds available (in August) and not at all cramped. Hotel is not an attractive building. Inside the corridors felt a bit like a hospital (or prison!). Room we had was quite shabby and there was very little space around the 2 double beds. Bathroom was roomy bright and very nicely fitted. Buffet breakfasts were very good and available until 11am. Overall would recommend it but only if price reasonable."
