"stayed at hotel cala font for a week from 24th june 2006, hotel was very clean and tidy, staff very friendly. Good pool area and the resort itself, which is actually in cap salou - hilly and about a 20 minute walk into salou itself. Rooms were cleaned every day and the maids could not be faulted. Entertainment for adults was poor, but for kids very good - the kids entertainment team were excellent. Only let down and a big one was the food, very repetitive and never hot - this was a big dissapointment. Only because of the food, would not go again"

Liked the Cala Font
"Arrived at on 28th June 06 for a week with my two sons. We enjoyed this hotel very much. We couldn't fault the cleanliness at all other than tripping over cleaners at all times of the day. Wouldn't have it any other way though. Maid made up beds and cleaned room every day. Food was good but suspect we would've been fed up with it if we stayed another week. Pool was good and clean, no fighting over sunbeds and no additional charges for them. Reception staff couldn't have been nicer and tried to help in any way they could. They gave me detailed advice on how to travel via public transport to Barcelona and to Port Aventura. We visited both however the train to Barcelona was very busy and we had to stand. Port Aventura by public bus took 20 mins. The beach is a 1 min walk down hill from the pool side gate. It's clean and shallow waters, which was good for the kids. Entertainment was pretty much the same as any other Hotel in Spain/Catalonia with Minidisco for the kids plus some stuff for the adults but all in all very pleasant and well suited for families. Not one for twenty somethings looking for some action unless they just want a base. 15 min walk takes you in to Salou, which was something we didn't do, we were quite happy where we were.
Would I go back? Yes."

"Excellent hotel, brilliant for familes as there is entertainment every evening. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. When we arrived we asked for a fridge in the room and it was there within 1hr (only 4 euros a night), safe also available at 4 euros a night.
The hotel was spotless, maid service every day and there was a brand new toilet seat in the bathroom.
The resturant was excellent, and was also very clean. The only downfall about the food was that, although there was plenty of choice, it was the same choice every night, so if staying for 2 weeks you might possibly get fed up with the menu.
The view from out hotel room (320) was excellent we had a view of both the pool and beach which was stunning.
Would definately go back. Overall an excellent holiday."

The Cala Font hotel is excellent
"We had a holiday at the Cala Font Hotel in May 2006, we thought it was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful especially the staff on reception. The hotel facilities are good and the food not bad. The hotel is in a wonderful position, situated by a lovely beach. There are some good eating places and bars very close by and the whole area is excellent for children. We have a small dog who was made very welcome at the hotel and there were some beautiful walks very close by for him. We enjoyed it so much we will be returning in October."

"Just back from this hotel after a weeks holiday. Read a some bad reviews before i went but when i got there it was grand. Great sea views from most rooms. Beach only 25 metres away fromt the hotel door. All the staff that i met were very friendly and willing to help with any problems. Good selection of food to satisfy all tastes and it was all hot and well cooked unlike some of the reviews on this site. I was full board so ate at all mealtimes and had no complaints about any of the meals i had. Entertainment wasnt bad either, everynight there was something new. There was a magician, country and western, karokee, latin dancing, excellent piano player in the nights that i went down to the bar. Room had a tv but no english channels which wasnt much good. Fridges are available for hire also.
Hotel is a good base to tour salou and surrounding areas. Its based in cap salou which is about a 25min walk or 10min bus drive. from salou centre. Nice quiet little town, unlike salou which is all apartments, and hotels everywhere you look and them all on top of on another. It has a few bars, supermarkets and a pharmacy just next door(Pharmicist has quite good english). It is a very hilly area, quite a steep hill to the bus stop so might not suit the less abled. Buses to everywhere are available just up the hill from the hotel. You are able to get bues to barcelona, salou, taragona, cambrillis, portaventura and the aquapark. They should keep you busy for the week. Buses run quite frequently all day, up untill at least 12.30am i got one from salou to the stop at night. Think i paid 1.40 euro to get to salou centre. Portaventura and the aquapark are excellent for the young and not so young alike, just be prepared to queue in the high season. A day trip to barcalone also well worth it. Recommend this hotel to anyone."

Excellent value for money
"Arrived late sunday evening and check in was quick and easy.
The hotel is situated on a hill.
When going to the beach if you go through the swimming pool side gate it cuts alot of the hill out before reaching the beach!
The food is hot and plenty. Before putting new food out, the cook takes the old away so not to mix the old and new together. In season there is a kids menu which serves fish fingers, chicken nougarts, chips, beans etc. There is also ice cream and yogarts everyday. Other food included gammon, steak, chicken, pork and lamb chops, salads, and plety of cakes!
We had a very relaxing time and the children did too. The kids club was good but we only went for half an hour at a time and we stayed with them as the children were only 21 months and 4 years old. I think they need to be 5 to be left. The kids disco was good also but we found it started quite late 10pm.
The beach was little but good as the sea was very clear and shallow. Watch out for jelly fish. We only saw one and you can clearly see them as the water is so clear.
I am looking to return again in september as I think it was one of the nicest hotels I have been too."

"Just got back today after a weeks half board at the Cala Font.
The hotel itself far outweighed our expectations. The rooms were good & cleaned every day. The food was fantastic & yes I've read the other reviews about breakfast being the same every day, but unlimited bacon eggs, toast, beans, cereals, croissants, tea & coffee, cold meats etc are exactly what I and probably 95% of people want when on holiday.
The food at night time was even more varied & the choice was astounding, they even had a guy on a separate grill solely cooking pork & chicken steaks. At no time did either my wife or daughter have any cause for complaint, they even had a separate kids buffet with the customary chicken nuggets, fish fingers, chips etc. All the food was piping hot and there were about 8 or so waitresses who spent all their time clearing up & re-setting tables, we never needed to wait for anything.
The pool is just as well run, after having holidays in the past where I had to get up at 4am just to reserve sunbeds, it was great to see that they chain them up until the lifeguard starts work at 10am and he releases them... ( 1 good tip... don't do as most do & set the beds up on the same side as the restaurant, as come 2pm that starts to lose the sun... the better place is nearest the road on the opposite side as that stays sunny up until 7pm ish )
The Cala Font is NOT in Salou... it is in Cap Salou which is a couple of miles from Salou itself. There are very few bars within walking distance of the hotel and to be honest they're a bit manky... although the Smugglers is pretty good, Mickeys bar appears to be full of charvas & Burberry & Argos gold jewellery... and they have Karaoke on there a staggering 6 nights a week !!!
if you can manage the walk there's another bar a bit further up a hill called the Crows nest & that's not too bad but it's a bugger to get to.
If, as we did you want to go to PortaVentura, don't bother with the bus service, it's always crammed by the time it gets to Cap Salou and they seem to run on a weird "Spanish" kind of timetable, far better to get a taxi, it's only about 8 euros and much better than sitting next to Sweaty Mc sweat from Leeds & his charming tattooed wife Smokey Mc sweat, with the twins screamy and stabby....
All in all the Cala Font is really good value for money, yes, you can sometimes hear the people above you tapping around, but after a busy day and a few drinks, getting to sleep was never a problem.
This has to be the second best Hotel I've stayed in whilst on holiday... 1st place goes to a 4 star all inclusve we had in Protaras.... but only just!!!"

waste of money
"I won't believe a travel agent again. Because nine times out of ten they will say they have been there and enjoyed it. ([--]). On first sight of this hotel you would think boy im in for a good time. But within an hour of arriveng in your room, and trying to get your head down the clubers start coming in (this is 4am) doors banging continually and the walls were so thin you could here every sound imaginable. PROBLEMS WITH THIS HOTEL:
Food: cold or having to stand and wait for trays to be replenished also very monotonous(same breakfast every day)
Entertainment: (What entertainment?) one man and a piano and no kids club never seen so many bored kids.
Bar Staff: they tend to price as they like and was very expensive so we stopped drinking there.
They tell you it's a slight incline but when you see senior citizens struggling with suit cases and mothers with prams and even able bodied, that should tell you it's more than an incline. also it will be sold to you as being in Salou but its in Cap Salou which is a good half hour walk up and down hill until you get tothe centre of Salou.
LIST OF ESSENTIALS, EAR PLUGS, SLEEPING TABLETS, FORGET FLIPFLOPS (WALKING BOOTS) AND KIDS GAMES."

"Stayed in the Cala Font last July, had booked half board so food was included. Was very dissapointed with the standard of food. One morning we went down for breakfast and there was red scrambled eggs. Although they had a good selection of foods, it just seemed to be the same old style day in. Found ourselves eating out more than actually eating in.
The rooms were very comfy and the view of the beach from our balacony was excellent. The swimming pool was excellent and supervised on a daily basis. The kids entertainment was brillant and kept the daughter amused for a couple of hours during the day.
It is is a great base for travelling around Salou and La Pineada, as it is only a five miniute bus drive to each destination and buses run 24 hours a day 7 days a week, and lets not forget Port Aventura, great for the small kids and the big kids if you know what I mean.
Overall it was a great holiday"

Flamenco show brilliant
"We went to the Hotel Cala Font in Cap Salou for 2 weeks. Our party consisted of me my mum and my 14 year old daughter.
A bit hilly round the hotel.
The dining hall was quite large but the food was never hot and there was only 1 microwave. They were very slow at clearing tables and most of the time we ended up doing it ourselves. We ate in The Smugglers around the corner every day, at least there was English television in there and it was not all news programmes unlike the hotel rooms.
Staff were really friendly apart from one person who only spoke English when he wanted.
The entertainment was rubbish apart from a Flamenco show, the rest of the time we went to Mickeys a Karaoke bar round the corner.
The pools were ice cold and took your breath away, there was nothing to do in the hotel at all you just had to catch a bus somewhere else and hope it didn't rain like it did on 6 occasions while we were there !!!!!!"

"This hotel was lovely and in a great location, we got one of the bus passes available at some of the hotels to do our sight seeing with and this made travelling around Salou very easy.
We had a lovely time at this hotel but were a little discouraged after reading the awful reviews it had been given, particulary in regards to the food served there. Well, we can't fault the food although some nights we couldn't quite tell what it was so played safe with chicken nuggets, however, on one morning I woke up next to my husband, only to discover that during the night he'd developed some kind of upset stomach and had lost control of his bodily functions in bed. The horror was unbelievable. Other than that we had a very nice holiday. "
