The Best, Cheap Four Star Hotel Around!!!

Brilliant
by

"The hotel is magnificent and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. Although the hotel has 1 indoor and 1 outdoor pool I did n't have time to swim, I was to busy exploring!!!

The good thing with my booking was the half-board, the only thing you had to worry about was missing lunch, not a problem.
The breakfast was good enough to keep you going until dinner, and the dinner was a 3 course affair.

I was very lucky with my travel agent to find this hotel, I will definately go back. Of course everything else is extra, massage, drinks, calls, etc. (All of these things cost extra anyway.)

Now here are some tips; if you get a taxi thats fine from malaga airport to the hotel it will only cost you 15 euros. The nearest train stop is La Colina and is only five minutes away (head towards the beach) train journey will only cost you 1.50 euro but will take 30 minutes compared to 10-15 minutes by taxi.

Oh! 1 very important note!!!

If you decide to go on the free excursions, book early (immediately, right away, the instant you get in you hotel room!).

The only drawback is you have to listen to 1 hour of boring selling pitch, but after that the trip is free. (there's also a free drink!)

If you decide to pay for you excursions, expect to pay from 45-75 euros (depends on the excursion), for example, the gibraltar dolphin tour is the most popular and the most expensive.....

That's all folks"

South to the sun

"Stayed at this hotel February 19th - 27th 2007
Desperate for an escape from the cold, grey weather of the UK myself and a friend took the plunge and booked an online deal to this hotel on the Costa del Sol.

Arrived at Malaga Airport and took a taxi to the hotel (which is closer to the airport than Malaga). This cost 15 Euros and is the standard price, one way. There is a very convenient taxi rank on the road next to the hotel.

Reception: Courteous, efficient, smooth check in procedure and we were welcomed with a glass of fresh cool orange juice. Even better, as we were having seperate rooms, I was given a free upgrade!

Rooms: Clean, modern and comfortable (beds very firm), en - suite, mini - bar and balcony with town/sea view.

Restaurant: Very impressed with the range and standard of the food both at breakfast and dinner (buffet style, hot and cold). Spotlessly clean and the decor was bright and cheerful. The staff ,at all levels, were very professional and although busy, were friendly and made an effort to accomodate their customers wishes.

The Bar: Interesting, lavishly decorated cocktails. Fair range of other drinks (including coffees - which are not available in the restauant after the evening meal). Prices are hotel prices and certainly drinks are cheaper in the bars outside the hotel but you don`t always want to go out. Apart from one night, there was entertainment of one kind or another in the bar area.

Hotel Grounds: I was very impressed with the cleanliness on the walkways, the pool area and the grassed areas.

General: Most of the visitors at the hotel were aged 50 and upwards (us included) although there were some younger people and a few families with children. Generally, this made for a fairly quiet environment within and in the area outside the hotel, which suited us well. No "lager louts" in sight!!

Location: About a mile outside Torremolinos town. The train station is about an 8 or 9 minute easy walk away, behind the hotel and this (very cheaply) takes you into the centre of Torremolinos. The line runs from Malaga to Fuengirola and trains run every half an hour. You buy your tickets from the machine on the platform. You can also catch a bus just along the road from the hotel or you can walk along the promenade. The only problem with walking is that when you get to Torremolinos it is on a hill so you have to be prepared to go up a lot of steps - someone said 300!

Yes, we did get the sun after a very grey and wet day of arrival and I did return home with a suntan. The temperature ranged from 18 to 21 degrees during the main part of the day.

Would I come back to this hotel? Definitely, at this time of the year or maybe Autumn but not during the Summer holiday season when I think the surrounding area would be too busy for my liking."

Excellent Hotel with a few exceptions

"Overall an excellent hotel. Very clean, food excellent except for 2 set dining times 6.15 or 8.15 no choice as to which you are given. 6.15 would be preferrable as it enables you to go for a walk after diner. Entertainment was minimal to say the least. Bingo every night the odd show. The walk to the centre takes a good 30 mins at least so
you need to to quite able bodied on your feet. On the good side where
the hotel is it is very quiet at night. An excellent hotel as long as
you like a walk. A few bars and shops close to hotel for papers, water, juice etc"

"We booked this hotel through the rui website and got a very good deal. we were a bit concerned after reading other reviews which were a bit mixed but we were delighted with this hotel. lovely room overlooking the swimming pool {which is being renovated at present so small amount of noise through the day], pleasant and helpful staff , and first class food. the hotel is in the quieter part of torremolinos but still within walking distance of plenty cafes. would definitely recommend."

One More Great Christmas And New Year Holiday

5
Brilliant
by

"We returned from our Christmas and New Year Holiday spent in the Hotel and as this is our third visit over the same period, we can only say a very big ‘’THANKS’’ to all the staff who made it a perfect Holiday and who continue to keep the same great standard every year,

I have read some of the comments on this site about the hotel and can only say that I doubt if these people would be happy in utopia.
The staff are all so very hard working and pleasant that it’s a joy to be greeted by them every time you meet. The choice and presentation of the food has improved every year and the time and effort put into the displays must equate to hours of hard work in the kitchen

We have noticed over the past years the amount of returning guest’s (That say's a lot on it's own) and look forward to meeting them later this year,

The bar prices are what you would expect to pay for the standard of service and the free entertainment.

Once again we say Thanks, keep up the high standard and we look forward to our next visit (we are both in our early 50’s going on 30 and are hard to please when it comes to service and quality)"

Amazing Hotel

"We stayed at this hotel from 30 December until 6 January and can't fault this hotel at all. I had read other reviews and didn't know what to expect.

On arrival at the airport we took a taxi to the hotel as it was quite late in the evening which for two people cost 15 Euros, on arrival at the hotel we received a glass of orange juice which was very refreshing. They had also arranged a cold meal for us as we had missed dinner which we thought was very kind and thoughtful of them.

The reception staff were very friendly and explained that on the 31 December at dinner time to inform the restaurant staff that we had just arrived and they would sort out a table for us which we would sit at each evening, and also to go and see the bar manager to book a table in the bar for the New Years celebrations and order your champagne which wasn't too expensive.

The food was excellent and varied each day for breakfast you had a choice of cereal, fresh fruit, breads, cold meat and cheese and salad and at the cooking station you would have scrambled eggs, fried eggs, boiled eggs, bacon or sausages (varied from day to day) baked beans, tea, coffee or fruit juice and you just helped yourself.

For dinner you had soup and breads, salad bar, cold meats, fish and cheese, then you had a choice of fish, meat and veg and the cooking stations or pasta and the dessert table was lovely. You could always find something to eat.

The New Years Gala dinner was amazing you had a choice of two soups then the salad bar which had salmon and then a choice of duck, fish, steak, kebabs, pasta, chips etc and dessert and you would be served water, wine, and then a glass of champagne. The staff in the restaurant were very friendly and always making sure your plates were cleared away while you were up getting your next course.

The bar staff were always very busy and it was nice to have a waiter service and you always got a plate of peanuts with your drink.

Entertainment wasn't the greatest but we enjoyed the bingo and they also had a quiz and a Abba tribute band.

The maids were also great and the room was always cleaned every day to a very high standard and fresh towels left.

As we went in December you didn't find a problem with getting a sun lounger no matter what time you went down at, and you were opposite the beach which made a lovely walk during the day, you were not really near any shops and had to walk quite a while to reach any but I am sure it is different in the summer, we really enjoyed our stay at the hotel and wouldn't hesitate in coming back"

"My husband and I have just returned from a two week stay at this hotel and would recommend it to anyone. The rooms were very spacious and the whole hotel was at the height of cleanliness.
The staff were most courtiess and couldnt do enough for you and made you feel very welcome. The food was excellant and of good standard. Drinks were a little expensive at the hotel, but this is usual for most hotels. The amenities were good and some sort of entertainment every night. We had an excellant stay at this hotel and would go to any Rui hotel without hesitation."

Whole party of 36 moved next door at short notice

1
Awful
by

"May I suggest avoiding this Hotel at all costs as they bumped a party of 36 of us to their sister Hotel Costa Lago at very short notice and no amount of protest would help. Most of us were given BASEMENT rooms at Costa Lago and we spent all week protesting at the treatment we had been given until SOME of us were moved to better rooms,. There was apparently another large party who were also 'moved' without their consent

Reception staff at Costa Lago were also unhelpful and the food was like a canteen with very little choice for evening meals

One tip. If you get moved like we did , then INSIST on good quality rooms at Costa Lago ( the suites on floors 3 and 4 are very good) and also make sure you are ungraded to all inclusive

In fairness the pool area is very good but there is a VERY limited buffet in the pool bar."

Ok, but not a 4 stars hotel

3
Average
by

"Booked from a travel agency of TUI in Germany(where I live).
The hotel pretends to be have 4*. I've stayed in quite many 4 and 5 stars hotels.

This one is not realy like this. Here is why:
- pretty old sanitary installations in the bathroom
- no kitchen (or something similar)
- no refrigerator (i had to remove everything from the minibar to cool some water bought by myself)
- service was random. Sometimes they were coming at 9, sometimes at 14-15 (disturbing us, of course)

Now, PROs and CONs:

PRO:
- very good food
- nice location (200 m from beach)
- nice bar
- the personnel was speaking some English (one of them very good), some German and French
- sometimes we actually got free towels at the swimmingpool
- great view over the entire place (I was on the 8th floor)

CONs:
- small and overcrowded swimmingpool
- small area near the pool (overcrowded)
- extremely unfriendly personnel exactly when we left (until that moment was actually ok, but when we were about to leave they practically kicked us out)
- acute sensation of industry and no sense of "at home"
- inflexible hours for eating
- when not in their schedule, the food was cold (even if we announced)

Conclusion:
if you don't pay as much as we did (620euro/person - 7days, demipension) it is ok. Otherwise, go somewhere else.
Anyway, this was my last booking with TUI."

Could not fault the hotel Food Rooms service first rate.

Downside we booked with Thompsons and we never received a welcome pack also in the two weeks at this hotel the thomson rep did not visit once, The german rep for thompson visited most days, mind the hotel was 95% german but that's not a problem.
